And why, may I ask, does fusion beat "the hell out of fission" in the department of long journey manned space flight? Neither provides thrust, just energy to run a thrust producing engine, e.g. an ion drive. Both power sources would very heavy, because of shielding in the fission case and magnetic containment field generators in the fusion case. If you want a long lasting, nuclear reaction power source, an existing, mature solution exists.

If possible, I would suggest getting your MS in a field outside your BS to diversify your education. (My BS is in Physics and my MS is in Applied Mathematics.) I would also suggest that if you have to pay for your graduate degree out of your own pocket, you are doing something wrong. Many employers have continuing education programs that will pay for a graduate degree. I think you should only stay within the University system if you have a TA position that pays for tuition.

Going to work right away could really be the best of both worlds. You can earn work experience and get your degree through an employee continuing education program. My suggestion, when the time comes, is to apply for graduate school and commence the job search. Grad school will act as a safety net, but it also looks great on a resume or during an interview. I would also talk to those professors and see what the chances are to getting accepted to a program and getting a TA position.

I have yet to receive an explanation as to why some VP somewhere gets to make ten times as much myself. When the company is not making record profits, it is an engineering problem. When we are raking in the dough, it is an executive success. No one ever looks to see how difficult the problem is because, they cannot fathom the problem being solved. My first day at orientation, you could tell the engineers from the financial analysts. We were in Dockers and collars and they were in three piece suits. ...yelling on the internet, this would have been a non-issue.

You hit it square on the head and I think you do not even know it. There is a reason senators, parliamentarians, presidents and prime ministers have handlers, spokespeople and speech writers. When they say something, people listen. People listen for no other reason than they have a very large, very public soap box.

Arguing on the internet is not longer just packets floating passing in the night because, people are now paying attention. For better or worse and as scary as it is, these tubes now have a measure of credibility. Public figures care about their wikipedia profile, millions of people interact with social software and the internet has made a man President of the United States. It has also made many ugly things public and given an unprecedented voice to the vocal minority.

The internet is the largest and most public soap box in history. In this case, two people who appear to be very good at their jobs crossed paths. Their intersection occurred in a place of misunderstanding and the very real, very human fear of the unknown erupted in a hiss of venom and malice. It is unfortunate that the worst part of their interaction was placed on display for all to see. It is very heartening to see they have made effort to discuss their misunderstandings and learn from each other. Two people lost their heads and had a heater exchange. Normally only they and their close friends would know. They did it on the internet and shared their anger almost telepathically. Ironically, we use the internet to simultaneously blather on about meaningless trivia and share an almost telepathic bond.
