  1. Wonderful XML on DCC2 Protocol for IRC file transfers · · Score: 1, Offtopic

Wonderful, more incorrect use of XML... I wonder, why not XML up the XML so you can have an tag which contains even more XML? Sounds insane doesn't it.. but that is what XML does in general... Why oh Why would you write a communications protocol using XML as your base?!

I doubt this will be as popular as they think, with people designing it like this it limits it to platforms with an XML interpreter and also makes it extremely inefficient (compared to normal tags).

If I was admin, I would dump a list of MPAA etc onto my filter and see if they can cause problems then?! Thing is, it is not illegal at all.. a organization is quiet legally able to block these people that are scanning traffic from your network. I would also consider it if I where an ISP.

Honestly, I have no good suggestions beyond giving up on cinemas and just release everything on DVD ASAP to reduce piracy. Thing is, people want the media, and they want it right now... and until the industry catches up with what people want this is going to continue.

What i think would be a good start(TM) would be a program that interprets config files and turns them into GUI menus when possible, turning integers into fields, lists of commented out options into checklists/dropdown menus, etc. I know it wouldn't be perfect but it would make editing a config file less scary for less experienced users

Wow. You really don't get it do you. That IS the problem. Instead of programmers creating easy to use, for the job GUI's they are trying to get creative.. trying to make things easy.. trying to take the short route.

I personally don't like Microsoft... but you have to ask yourself if Media Player is removed who is affected by this in a negative way?

I think the 'normal users' will be hit hardest, a lot of them just want their media to play and in my opinion it is the place of the Operating System to provide the functionality. We might install something better, but it doesn't hurt us to have it there even if we don't use it. I think the same is true with IE.. it has helped the new users a great deal even if it is bug ridden and crappy.
