I think what these companies fail to "get" and why these iPod killers arnt, are for 2 main reasons...
1st, that thing just screams ugly at me, I cant tell you why, but that screen seems too inset, that chrome lining doesnt seem right and the colors are pretty bland.
2, going with one. A few extra small features will NOT compensate for the enormous caché that having and iPod comes with. People RECOGNIZE the iPod as "cool". The iPod is a huge product of marketing, I dont see too many iRiver commercials around.
Basically, the iPod's "cool" factor keeps it seperate in shopper's minds in terms of others. There is iPod, and then there is the "other" MP3 players. For other companies to really break iPod's hold, they need a marketing machine.
Personally, I hold Apple stock, and hope that these companies keep producing these little "iPod killers" with an extra GB of space, and an FM radio, thinking that'll woo customers.

Hrm.. and with soundforge costing... letsee... 399.. and Microsoft claims to have sold how many copies of windows? In the millions for sure.... that's gotta be several million dollars worth of damages..
This is assuming that work produced with a pirated piece of software garners the same sort of punishment as the software itself.. which is of course not likely. (Does anyone know anything about legal w/ regards to the products of illegally gotten software?)
IE: If I were to say.. pirate Apple's Final Cut pro, and then make a movie with it that made millions.. would Apple be entitled to a lot of my profits or only the fee concerned with the original infringment?
What's this LN2 stuff... everyone knows REAL overclockers use liquid helium surrounded by a vaccum flask with another LN2 flask outside of it.
(P.S. That's the setup they use to cool NMR machines for chemistry that have superconducting magnets in them)
They've been called daughterboards as long as I can remember..
It's not recent terminology, so your likely of the younger generation.. but it IS the right word for it.
For those of us mac users who get the general concept (It's like fink, a package manager) but dont know anything about Portage... any ideas on where to find an introduction to this new toy ?
Specific questions.... Is there a seperate tree for MacOS X w/ apps known to compile correctly on it ? (As in different from the x86 tree)
Is there a shiny gui to go w/ ? (We mac users just love our guis)
I wish , just once.. a company I owned stock in would restate their books in a positive manner... ie: oops, we forgot to count that extra 200 million worth of revenue.
Not sure if you've noticed, but ram's pretty cheap these days... Just dont buy it direct from apple where they hike the prices. Get it from www.pricewatch.com
Just have recently managed to switch several older people older.. but your right, it was a hell of an uphill battle..
The best way i've found to explain to them:
"What's wrong with internet explorer" ? "Well.. let me put it this way.. remember how it dies when you visit some sites and ocassionally takes the desktop with it? Yea, Firefox doesnt do that as often, and it doesnt kill your desktop when it does".
We're building something called the twilight zone at my school, a Vlan dedicated to infested machines. If our automated scanners detect that a machine is being a pest, it gets thrown in this VLAN with all the other pesky PCs. The vlan, of course, has all internet sites redirect to a "help yourself" page on the local servers to indicate what has happend to your machine.
As someone previously pointed out, white light is a spread spectrum of wavelengths, but we can make light that appears white to us by only using R, G & B, to which our biological receptors are tuned.
However this raises the question.. if the screen is only reflecting RGB, to which we are sensitive.... why is it not reflecting back what appears to be ambient white light ? (the other side of the question is how can the projector appear to project white light if the screen somehow blocks the combination that would appear as ambient white light)
For those of us who've taken philosophy, it might be interesting to note that this particular use of the word apology may stem from Socrates' Apology wherein he defends himself from his accusers.
Forgive my ignorance, but if the code is truly solid code, without buffer overruns and the like, shouldnt this theoretically not matter (just as the code for stuff like ipfw is open)?
I realize however that Cisco code is likely more complex than the relatively simple stuff ipfw does.
Look at the arrows going around.. they are clearly the same.. I'm just using it as an indicator of Linspire's general tendecy to copy things w/out asking. I mean, the shading on those arrows are the same even, its like they put it into photoshop and recolored.
It's like if Burger King took McDonald's clown, put stripes on him and called him the hamburgler....
I cant imagine anyone looking at that and not feeling the need to give to a relief agency.

Well... not everyone can be a chemist. Good catch.
Did anyone see this ? :
....It is compatible with the EOS-1Ds Mark II, and with the EOS-1D MARK II and EOS 20D through firmware upgrades.
Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1
Works with the old goods too ! Sweetness

The joke is inherent in the intentional misspelling of "customers".
The plural, my good man, is cutomers.

That'd be a pleasant change.

It was actually a two pronged jab, both that and the Sk8trBoi Refrence.
You do however appear to be a fan of Avril Lavigne (sp?)
Look ! Look ! He likes something popular ! Lets get em' !

Sad to see that there are still people who so blantently bash homosexuals.
Where can we get a listing from this lastest round of JD suits ? Linkage anyone for being a super-karma-whore ?
