What kind of backwards country are you in? If I take a pre-paid phone, then it's locked to the network. If I take a subscription, I get the unlocked, unmodified phone in the box and a different box including my SIM card. I think Vodafone might have some branded phones, and most have some menu on their SIM card or something but you can easily get an unlocked phone.
I switched away from BackupPC because the archive size started exploding. Lots of large files getting changed a little was the main reason I think. Also, copying the backup pool takes ages
How much would each second balloon cost? Because if each balloon costs 100000 dollars in material, then replacing one only costs that, you don't need to factor in research costs (they are already made).
Most laptops come with a windows tool that slows the DVD player down, maybe that's a reason. Another thing you can try is to just let it on till it goes off because it's really empty. Maybe the indicator is broken, and it is not using more power.
You're comparing business class machines (MacBook pro) to consumer shit (Dell). Buy business notebooks (elitebook/thinkpad lines for example) and I think they are as solidly built as a Mac. You can also get a better resolution then 1440x900, but I don't think you would consider that a problem.
Eating your own species has a higher change of making you sick.

I would go with OpenSuse, which has really good and up-to-date packages for KDE (4.3.1 at the moment)
No, they say sorry to the next person waiting, explaining that you where a dirty Linux hippie and they should buy Windows.
A newer beta was released a week ago. Still no x86_64 but I don't care that much (just install the 32 bit packages with it)
Deposit before the case.
But the bad guys don't have loads of them, and shooting down a stupid blimp doesn't give them jihad-credits.

It plays quite nicely on my laptop.
We have a part that's turning at a high RPM. Why not put a chisel against it and make it smaller? You would need some patience and a sharp chisel.
Strategy games is also another strong point. I wouldn't play Supreme Commander on a gamepad.

SSH. You only lose the fancy GUI.
Why do you need A/C at home? At the office it's nice but when I lived in a hot climate I never missed an A/C at home. It only makes you ill.
Skipping meals is the best way to get fat. It makes your metabolism go crazy and stuff.
You don't need X for Matlab. The interface isn't that good.
Disable incoming calls while in a car, you're driving like a drunk when calling anyway.
Just install the offline maps
Why not increase your DPI, so you still have a sharp image with big letters?
You can put your cattle between the turbines as well.
Tried that. Cost me two teeth.
I've screwed my laptop open, taped some yellow tape on it and screwed it back together. now it's a green light that is hardly visible at all.
Riots. Tend to happen every big soccer game.
