  1. Re:Insanely poor program architecture on Election Officials And Crackers Challenge Diebold · · Score: 2, Interesting

The only thing stopping wholesale cheating is the use of exit polls, and even they weren't enough in the last presidential election. If the exit polls and actual poll results differ by 30%, people will get upset. In reality, even a small deviation should raise alarm flags and cause a recount,

Why in the heck would exit polls stop wholesale cheating? You are assuming:
    a) people are telling the truth about whom they voted for
    b) either all the people are polled or a good sampling
    c) and the most important, the people taking the polls as well as reporting do not have a vesting interest in the results.

'C' is the biggest problem because it also goes back to (b). The news media openly wanted the Dems to win. That was the biggest problem.

Now dealing with the recounting issue, just about all of the recounts in Florida (I am assuming this is what you were referencing.) came out in favor of Bush so the majority did win.

    a) write your own software to do so
    b) license the sofware in question
    c) find software that the original author states that it is OK to do so.

Apple (you know the company that spent time and money developing the software that you want to give away) specifically states that what you want to do is not allowed. My advice is then don't buy it from them!!!!!

If you then compare the number compared to previous administrations, you would really not bring this up. Declining middle class, so people are prospering and moving up. Isn't that the goal of all people? Personally, I always want to move my lot in life forward. Sorry if you are content and have no goals. Sorry but forcing all people to the middle class has a socialism/communism ring that doesn't work. Take a note from all of history. Slowing housing market: do you have a clue as to how long the housing market has been booming? Good things like that just can't last forever. Be real. Lost war? WTF are you talking about. Oh thats right, you just read about that in the left-wing rags. Talk to the actual soldiers who are fighting the war. We are winning. Free elections ring a bell? New constitution? Please open your eyes. Pending layoffs. Do you really understand the size of the US economy. Companies are always laying off. The question is are there jobs to go too. You can find the answer to that question when you look at the overall unemployment numbers. If you guess under 6% you are a winner.

  20. Re:Thank you, Apple, for saving FreeBSD. on Windows Beat Unix, But it Won't Beat Linux · · Score: 1
Since Mac OS X v10.0 was released in 2001, Apple has been filtering BSD code in and out of their kernel, userland, and libraries. This code then makes its way back to FreeBSD. Apple's pattern is to sync every major Mac OS X release with the latest major FreeBSD release. For example, Mac OS X v10.1 corresponded to FreeBSD 4.4 and Mac OS X v10.2 matched up with FreeBSD 4.7. By the time Apple released Panther, their contributions back into FreeBSD had amassed into a new FreeBSD milestone, the 5.x branch. Mac OS X v10.3 contained bits of both FreeBSD 4.9 and FreeBSD 5.1.

I really think you need to do some further investigation here. Apple only uses userland code from FreeBSD in their OS. The kernel space code is pure Apple/Mach code that can be seen in via the Darwin project. FreeBSD milestones are not dependent on Apple releasing their changes back. The relationship is not all that deep and really only one-way when it comes to BSD. KHTML is vastly different.
