I remember back in the 80's, they said we were going towards a paperless office, with the integration of the computer.
The only thing the computer did was generate MORE paperwork. As long as we have a government, there will be
paperwork. I've been in the office machine business for almost 30 years, and the amount of clicks generated has
gone through the roof.
They offered typing when I was in high school in 75. Myself and a bunch of my buddies took it for two reasons.
1. Other than the 5 of us, it was FULL of girls.
2. It was full of girls.
Who knew there would have been a benefit of learning to type...other than being in a class full of girls.
(yes I spelled it that way on purpose)
I haven't watched nitwork tv in years. 99.9 percent of the garbage on nitwork tv is a joke. So called reality shows, so called talent
shows are about all you see anymore. The so called dramas & comedy shows are usually rehashed, or they spin a current news
event to fit their political agenda (like the Law & Order franchise).
If it wasn't for the history channel, discovery, TMC, FMC , Nick@Night, and a few other cable/sat channels, I wouldn't even bother
watching tv. Nitwork executives can't figure out why their viewership is down, while networks like Nick @ Night beats them.
Perhaps they should watch and see that the OLD shows are funny or have a good story, without so much political bias.
It should have never been built. The Apollo was PERFECT (the rocket, not the CM). It should have been allowed to continue.
The ORIGINAL shuttle design would have been safer, but, they once again went the cheap route.
What they need to do is build something that has a CM similar to the old Apollo, and make a heavy launch vehicle for hauling
equipment & supplies.
The only reason Senator Hutchison is proposing this is to keep the shuttle jobs alive.
An astronaut, long ago was asked if anything about flying into space scared him.
He replied, the only thing that bothers me is that I'm sitting on top of something that
went to the lowest bidder!
Truer words were ever spoken.
Space junk is why aliens don't visit Earth.
They pull up next to our blue marble, see all the space junk, and say
skip it...if it looks like this out here, imagine what it looks like down there. LOL
I remember the same argument back in the early 90's. Until the dopes in congress catch up to the technology, there will be those who say email isn't "secure" (ours have secure email features). Congress had to pass another law to placate the lawyers so a signed and returned fax document was considered legal. Heck, I bet 90% of the dopes in congress can't even send a fax, without having 3,450 members of their staff to help out LOL.
I had the same issue with technicians. I switched to all PDF's for service manuals etc years ago, but had a hard time to get the rest of the service staff to do the same. Same tired old argument...but...but...but...I can put notes in the paper manuals. Well, you can put notes in the PDF ones also.
Plus, It is a heck of a lot easier to find something in a PDF, doing a search, rather than thumbing through a paper manual.
My laptop that I carry, I have the drive mirrored to another drive I carry with me, updated weekly, and another drive at the shop mirrored. If the drive crashes during the day, it's a simple manor of popping it out and replacing it with the backup drive. I wouldn't go back to a paper manual for anything. I'm a certified instructor, and everything I teach with, save for the paper tests at the end of the course, is all electronic.
is to kick it out of government, and put it into the hands of private business.
NASA, as with ANY government agency, does not have to be "concerned" about being a lean, mean, efficient agency.
Why should they worry about being efficient? It's a government agency, with an "unlimited" budget.
Bloated, short sighted, lacking in any oversight(for the most part), NASA is lost. Their only concern is as with any
government agency. Making sure they spend their entire budget (if not more) just to make sure they can come back
next year and ask for the same amount if not more.
NASA lost its way after they landed on the moon. After that, they gave up on a PERFECT rocket, the Saturn, and instead
of pushing on for Mars, they thought the shuttle would be the end all. Now that they found the moon, now what? Lets just
circle the earth for 30 years.
years, I've seen "green" ideas come and go, but still here we are 30 years later, and we are still putting ink or toner on paper.
In the mid 80's, the "paperless" office idea was run up the flag pole, and friends of mine said I better look for another line of
work. I just laughed. I said as long as we have a government, with regulations, we'll have paper. These idiots have to justify
their jobs some how, and paper reports is how they do it. When the HIPPA laws came into being a few years ago, my work load
INCREASED, just from the extra copying & printing those silly laws generated.
For the past few years, I've tried until I'm blue in the face to talk people into going toward electronic filing & document storage, only
to be told no, because "we've always done it with paper".
It's a mind set...people don't like change and sometimes will push against change.
In the early 80's, fax machines were taking off big time, but it was hard to convince people to give up messenger services and go with
a fax machine. The fax was faster, cheaper than using a courier service, but, some would say "we've always had a courier".
Now, I'm having the same problem getting people to give up a fax machine, because scan to e-mail is faster, and cheaper, but people
say "we've always had a fax machine".
People just don't brace technology sometimes. I gave up trying to change peoples minds. I show them the benefit, the cost savings,
the time savings, and if they don't get it, I just let it go. Their money, not mine.
Human nature......go figure.
Got a new Dell E1555 to replace my aging E1505, blew out the HD, installed 7 fresh. 8-9 hour battery life (extended battery), no issues. Must be a really specific glitch.
I think skynet is finally starting to launch its attack;)
Fly by wire is nice, but unless it is 100% reliable, you need to can it.
Remember what happened to the first Airbus with fly by wire? They did a low approach over
the runway, the airplane thought it was suppose to land, and the fly by wire didn't allow it to
climb out, and it crashed into a forest.
Why do you think that anytime you walk into an at&t store, you can't go 3 feet without running into something associated with the iPhone?
AT&T is trying to get as many customers (suckers) to opt for a long term contract, because they know there will be a hoard of people going to t-mobile or whoever else sells the iphone.
LOL, yeah I know about the antenna thing...we've had a couple of ice storms the last few years that wiped out the electrical grid and the cell phone batteries didn't hold up until the AC was restored. The vhf/uft repeaters came through with flying colors once again, as did the HF rigs set up to get communications in and out of the area.
Kind of like the police...everyone bad mouths them, UNTIL they need one.

The unsung heroes of any disaster are typically the amateur radio operators. These guys, most of the time using their own equipment, time & money will set up a repeater or HF station so communications can get in and out of a disaster area.
These guys always deserve a pat on the back as another of the "first responders".
73's!

I'm just a "tad" overweight, and I'm on my feet 8-10 hours a day, but when I'm home, I try to keep my legs elevated as
much as possible, to keep the blood from pooling in the legs.
I know that you hear a lot (and I still wonder if that is what led to the death of the Meet the Press guy) that he had
some sort of deep vein thrombosis issue and something broke loose and caused problems.
You hear it happening to people on long airline flights, where they are sitting a long time.
Hey all you Obama-maniacs....how's that hope & change workin' out for ya?
In all fairness, he isn't the only one...this has been going on for generations.
1984 was just a couple of decades late.
Other than needing a router, cable or something else on an emergency basis, you get what you pay for
at BB. I watch in amazement when I hear someone purchasing a computer and the blue shirt drone is
trying to force them into buying all the extra crap.
When the market for the iPhone is saturated, then of course it's market share will drop when some new do-dad comes out.
I'm not a fan of anything that apple produces, because you can't hack it the way you want.
I think the android is shaking up the market of smartphones because you can (if you know how) hack around on it to do what you want.
Same thing with the HTC/Windows phones. Just look how popular the XDA-Developers site is.
Anytime I get one of those stupid "rebate cards" after a phone purchase, I keep it til the first of the month, and pay part or all of a bill with it. I know there are probably a lot of people who leave a few dollars on the card that the companies who issue the cards hope never gets spent. Free money for the companies that issue them.
PLEASE don't turn NASA TV into cnn/abc/cbs/fox/pbs etc...
I watch the nasa tv channel when something is going on for the opposite reason.
THEY SHUT THE F*CK UP! Their comments are only when the ground to space loop is
QUIET. They don't talk over the controllers or astronauts.
The other "talking heads" think they have to blab 24/7.
If I wanted that crap, I'd watch the regular channels.
Pretty much explains the dopes in Washington DC doesn't it?

Unless you are downloading tons of porn, illegal software, etc....6meg down is enough for anyone :)

Oh I wonder how many STUPID people will bid on this piece of plastic, just so they can one up the rest of their snotty friends.
