No one is FORCING you to purchase a wireless phone, no one is forcing you to purchase an expensive phone. If you require a phone, get a cheap tracphone, or something similar.
If a company wants to charge more, then they better offer a better service, or they will lose market share.
The phones wouldn't be expensive, so to speak. If all phones in the USA were unlocked, and any retailer would sell them, you know good and well stores like Walmart, Target et al, would pressure the manufacturers for the lowest price and the "retail" price would come down to a few dollars, above the cost to manufacture the phone.
It's called capitalism & good business. Those that didn't drop the price, would lose market share.
Dig out the blueprints, put them into a CAD/CAM program, and modernize it, and they could have a RELIABLE heavy launch vehicle
soon. NASA really screwed itself when they dropped the SATURN launch vehicle, in favor of the wasteful shuttle.
Now, most all of the smart guys that developed the SATURN V, are gone, but the plans remain somewhere.
They could tweak the F-1 rocket engine and have a heavy launch vehicle quickly.
Most of the dealings I've had with "poor people" come from the fact they are in a ONE parent house.
Perhaps if we went back to the nuclear family, and we had parents that actually gave a rats a** about
their kids, we wouldn't have problems like this.
At&t shouldn't worry about "over usage" of iPhone users. When other carriers get the iPhone, there will be a drove of iPhone users leaving at&t, at least if you gauge the ticked off iPhone users on the at&t users forums.
PLEASE FCC, come up with some sort of protocol for connecting an analog fax modem on a VoIP. I have a large client base of
analog fax modems connected to some VoIP networks (a huge hospital, they won't use scan to email due to HIPPA restraints of
security of email outside a private network). Over the years, I have come up with a batch of adjustment I have had to do, to get
a V.34 fax modem to work on a VoIP network. Basically, you have to choke the fax modem down to 9600bps, which is silly, considering
on a PSTN, you can get a V.34 modem to work at a proper 33.6k speed without too much difficulty. What's the use of upgrading an
old 9600 fax to a "super G3" system, if you have to run it in 2nd gear all the time? And the manufacturers are no help, because the FCC
never wrote a rule regarding connecting V.34 systems to a digital network. I understand why, they probably thought who in their right
mind would want to tie up a phone line for 30 minutes to send a 20-30 page fax, when you can scan to email and send it in a flash,
but, analog fax modems will be around a LONG time.
In the mid 80's, I first heard the notion of a paperless office. Friends of mine told me I better find a new line of work (I repair office machines).
Well, here we are 20+ years later & I'm still doing the same thing. Not only did we not get a paperless office, we have MORE.
Every time the government comes up with a new regulation, my business goes UP. Add to that, these machines are now interconnected
and do multiple tasks.
All a computer does is make it easier for bureaucrats to justify themselves by producing more and more detailed reports on the tookpick
inventory. Unfortunately, they still don't understand how a computer or interconnected device can help the guys in the trenches do their
job. Most of my career has been spent inside a large hospital complex, and a few years ago they started computerizing everything.
Now it appears that it takes the nurses longer to do their jobs because of the do-dads they have to carry around and scan everything
they do. Does it help cut down on mistakes, more than likely, but, if you want to see things really slow down, watch what happens
when the entire system goes down, and the younger nurses/staff don't know how to treat someone the old fashioned way, by writing
everything down and doing everything by hand.
It's the same principal as why teachers require you to "show your work". You could punch something into a hand held calculator
all day long but if you don't know the basics of how to do something, you're screwed.
Exactly! You have to give Apple credit though. They released a phone that had NO MMS & no copy paste (something I use DAILY),
and had people standing in line. Sometimes I think their marketing is so good, they could release "pile of dog poop 2.0" and people
would line the blocks to get it.
Their POLITICAL opinions get in the way, which is one of the reasons I take EVERYTHING I read on Wicki with a GRAIN OF SALT.
If I can't find infomation ANYWHERE to back it up, I blow it off as someone on Wicki with a political axe to grind.
I don't like the fact that with Google, you have to agree to give up personal information.
Ok, here's one for you tin-foil hat types.
Google gets their way, and a lot of people flock to their phone. Google gives a back door to
the government, making all you calls, emails etc available to the government. Google allows
the government to push email, news to your phone (propaganda) and block those emails or
news or phone calls it thinks are bad.
(I just love to stir the pudding)
Apparently you forgot to read the liberal playbook.
Anything that shows a conservative (which Bush wasn't by the way) in a bad light is good.
Anything that shows a liberal in a bad light is bad.
I quit using google over a year ago. You can't blame them "technically" though.
Look where they are headquartered...San Fran...the heart of liberal~socialism.
Hey, it's their product. If they want to be like that, doesn't bother me...it's a 1st amendment
thing with me, but, I also have the choice to search elsewhere. They aren't the only search
engine in the world, just the most known/popular.
I love it when people bitch & moan about Walmart. Just because their business model WORKS and others don't, they get all
pissy because of "big business", complaining they don't pay enough, they are non union bla bla bla.
Since I live within 150 miles of the headquarters, there are a LOT of people who started out working for Walmart in high school,
kept in their stock (some provided by the company) and are living a VERY wealthy retirement.
If you think you can do better, start your own company like Walmart and compete. It wasn't a big success overnight.
Sam started Walmart with one store in Bentonville in the 60's and now look how big they are! It doesn't happen overnight,
but, a lot of Americans want "instant" success.
Once again, those facebook/myspace/twitter posts bite another one in the butt.
Anyone who posts ANYTHING on the internet, no matter how hard you try to lock it
down, is just naive to think that someone can't find a way to access it.
The ones I love are idiots who paste videos of them doing something illegal, then are shocked
when the police show up.
[x] never requires batteries. My watch has a solar thingy in it. As long as I get it some sun
once a day, it's good for almost a week before the battery runs down.
Before cell phones, I use to know dozens of phone numbers by heart. Now, I'm lucky to
remember 1 or 2 without having to look it up on my phone.
They won't do it, because too many deadbeats will take advantage of it, but the first carrier that sells the phone, unlocked, without a long term contract is where I'm going. Wireless providers should use the old "landline" model.
We (consumers) provide the phone, the carrier provides the connection.
A few years back, I was working on a computer for a friend, she had auto password configured, and I said I needed to
wipe and reinstall windows, I asked her what the password was...she said (yep, you guessed it). dot dot dot dot dot.
And yes, she was blonde!
The only reason IE is still as high as it is, is because 99% of the people using it don't know there is an alternative.
Heck, it isn't that hard to get people to switch. If I can get my SEVENTY SIX YEAR OLD father to switch to Firefox (he calls it Mozilla LOL),
then you can get anyone to switch.
It...it...it....it is green!
Wouldn't be surprised if Obama's idiots told GM "we gave you money, you do what we tell you".
GM owns it (which was dumb in the first place), so let the Swiss buy it back from GM.

Even if this boondongle would cost lives and not work, can't cancel it....it would hurt the pork contracts they have promised their buddies.
I switched to bing a while back. I'd say about 85% of the time, I can find what I'm looking for via bing...without all the viagra/porn/spam.
