And with an Ethernet port, you could create a cluster of x-boxes :)

Lucas refuses to follow the industry lead? Fine. I refuse to look forward to the video release of the movie. I did, however, look quite a bit forward to buying the Matrix DVD, and I wasn't alone.

Lets assume for the moment that the Wachowski (sp?) brothers had decided to wait until the next two sequels had been finished and released all 3 Matrix movies in a DVD boxed set at the same time. Would you be complaining just as much in that case or just figure that it will be cool to have them all in a box set and that it will be awesome once it comes out.

The way I see it, Lucas is saving me money. If he releases TPM on DVD next April, I will buy it. If he releases the next two separately, I will buy those as well. Then, when he decides to do a big box set of all 6, I will buy that too (I'm a completist collector, I have both Pan and Scan and Widescreens version of the original trilogy on both VHS and LD). This way, I just buy the one big box set and save myself some dough.

If I'm not mistaken, even pre-production of the two sequels for the Matrix hasn't started yet. Last I checked, they had barely started work on the script. But yes, they have said they will get both sequels out just months apart so we don't have to wait 3 years. I tend to like the anticipation though and being able to speculate as to what might happen next.

Any slashdot member that is also a Star Wars fan has probably already seen the Holiday Special once (and probably has no desire to see it again let alone read a review). I watched it for about 15 mins before I turned it off in disgust. That was about a month or two after I purchased it. I kept wanting to see it so bad and then found out that it was utter crap. This really isn't news at all since most of us already know it sucked.

You go see a movie and keep in your 18+ mentallity. If you want to enjoy Star Wars, you have to think like a kid. Lucas has always said that the movies, books, and radio dramas of Episodes 1-6 are considered authoritative. All other books after 6 and before 1 are not and he has said many times that if he does something inconsistent with them, that his part is true and the book is rendered false. The only book to break this rule is Shadows of the Emire, which he said specifically is canon. So I'd say the novelization of Ep 1 is pretty authoritative in his eyes.

If you really think Luke didn't win that lightsaber fight, you are dillusional. Vader had lost, the only reason Luke didn't kill him is because he would've turned to the Dark Side if he had.

Darth Maul was very skilled. If you read the book, you find out that when Obi-Wan went back to the Jedi Council, they tell him that he shouldn't have been able to kill Maul and that he should be dead. That is when they decide that he is ready and they make him a master and give him Anakin as his apprentice.

Also, the first movie was only cryptic because you didn't know anything about the Star Wars universe at all. This one's a little more blatant because you already know some things. It was also done to give people a way to tie it in with the originals. I've heard that the next two won't be so blatant since they've tied everything in and introduced all the main characters so they're going to concentrate more on continuing the story.

You obviously haven't read the book. That is why the Queen's face is usually covered with white makeup, so that she can dress as a handmaiden and not be noticed. The audience knew because we are supposed to know. Qui-Gon didn't know because he has only ever seen the Queen in white makeup so he couldn't tell by looking at her (although that doesn't explain why he couldn't tell through the Force, unless he wasn't trying).

I agree with you about the lightsaber though. Even though it was used offensively, it seemed to be more suited as a defensive weapon than anything else.

You might be waiting awhile for PPV. I heard, about a month after the movie came out, that it would hit network television first since Fox owns a network channel.

George Lucas said himself, Star Wars was done for kids. From what I've heard, lots of kids loved the movie and Jar Jar (I personally think he's worse than an Ewok). Jar Jar was designed for kids and kids love him.

I don't think Mr. Lucas is stuck in a rut. When he created Star Wars, he did it to give kids a modern myth since there weren't any. TPM is the beginning of the story and we still have two more episodes to see before we get the whole story. I hear people complain about the lack of closure and how they didn't like it. Well, the first one had to have closure because he didn't know if he'd be able to make the next two after that. This one didn't need closure because the next two were already going to be made.

You say a movie doesn't have to have special effects to wow us. I don't believe you. If you take the special effects out of every movie made in the last 5 years, I think you'll have some pretty boring movies.

My cousin seems to have no problem monitoring what his two sons do when they are at home, just requires a little discipline (something missing from most parents today). If some kids saw this, then the parents are to blame. Bad parenting is the reason a few kids have killed each other as of late. That, and this video was really lame. Nothing explained, just shooting a bunch of people again and again. Looks more like these guys had the opportunity to use some video equipment and decided to make a really dumb movie that they thought would be pretty cool. It is neither funny nor cool and I doubt it will be a geek classic. And it pales in comparison to the original South Park (which at least had a partial story to it). I really doubt the ability to copy them will have any effect on Lucas' decision.

Most users don't choose to use Internet Explorer. Ask a user sometime what browser their using. If they know that (possible) ask them what version. They probably have no clue. Most users use what's given to them. In the case of Windows, that would be IE. We all use Netscape where I work because I set up the computers and that is what I put on them and that is what the users are trained to use. This is mostly because of all the security bugs that keep popping up in IE. That and yes, we don't like MS.

If the average user had a choice, IE would probably not have such huge market share.

My only comment on this article is about the example of the Virgin Mary painting. The only problem I had with this painting is that (and this is just my understanding) tax payer money was used to fund it/display it. If you were a Christian/Catholic living in New York City, would you like it if someone used some of your money to paint something that appears to be defamatory of your religion? I know I wouldn't. If, however, the person used their own money to fund it and a private museum with no government funding wanted to display it, fine. From what I read in the article, David Bowie said he'd put it on his website. Fine. That is his choice. I don't think his website is government funded. While I do not like the painting myself, my problem is not with the painting, it is with where the money came from to paint it/display it. And before you go off about saying "that's just discriminating what should be taxpayer funded and what shouldn't" let me say this: I don't think any art should be government funded, period. If I am incorrect in my understanding of the situation, please correct me.
