at my apt. complex they installed new washer and dryers w/cash card readers. I find it slightly inconvienient b/c I have to goto the main building to fill the card w/cash (but it does take credit card and debit). Other than that, it is slightly easier b/c I don't have to store $15 in quarters for laundry day.
I stopped using cash about 3 years ago. I keep two checking accounts and one savings account. I have a seperate check card for the second checking account and I transfer money to it for purchases (even at the grocery store just incase someone hits and extra zero and empties my account).
great, so I am on the "fine" state of MN's "do not call list". Instead of 5 phone calls a day from asshole telemarketers, I get 5 phone calls a day from "market research" people.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that the telemarketers switched from that to market-research.
Just as annoying, same thing, but legal.
Are no emails going to take care of ALL email that is un-wanted or just bullshit Viagra spam?
really, a college degree will automatically bring you more than 30k? How about those of us w/jobs and a 4 year degree from a larger University (20k+ students) that don't make 30k?
How about when I graduated college I was making 9.82/hr. How about the other people I knew at that particular place of employment that were also college grads working for the same or less than I was?
How about me and one of my co-workers. We both have college degrees. We both work for less than 30k.
What did college do for me? Pretty much nothing. Don't continue the bullshit that college betters your economic situation. It's not true.
(I am not going to say that people are going to make 30k out of HS w/this cert, but for shits and giggles, let's go w/it).
So instead of coming out of high school and starting work at 30k, these kids are going to goto college and pay $10k+/yr for 4 years. They are going to be able to actually afford $3000 of that. So after college they have $30k in debt.
Now. Instead of going to school they start working at 30k. They have no debts. They have a car, a job, and are gaining experience faster than any college intern for 2 months during two summers.
I went to school for 4.5 years. I had nearly a full scholarship for athletics. I still have quite a bit to pay off. I have a job that doesn't pay all that great, I am worried about losing my job, I already lost wage increases. I had no experience, I have little money, and I am just as scared as everyone else.
How is this a bad thing? Get the money first and go back to school later. That's my opinion.
I never said that b/c people cannot use a program they are "stupid". Never.
People who cannot learn something have a personal block against it. I was never good at Math. It wasn't b/c I couldn't do it, it was b/c I could give two flying fucks about it.
These people see programs as Math. They don't want to bother.
What computer program do any of you use that you had to be trained to use? Microsoft Office? Umm, *most* people have no use for any of the apps other than Word.
I was able to sufficiently use Access and Excel in 30 mins or less.
Now, let's look back in the day. WP5.1, DOS 5.0, and Lotus 123. WYSIWYG+123 was not much better. Those applications required training and complicated Function Key cards above the KB.
Most people can fumble their way through the current Word version by searching the menus and using their doc "wizards".
If we are talking about mainframe frontends, they are even MORE insane. Most programers (while not the best UI designers) have made it much easier than using a VT100 term emu. for using the mainframe.
Stop the whining and learn to use the god damn things...
ATT/Comcast doesn't "officially" care if you run more than one computer per IP. If you call and ask what you would need for home networking they would first suggest you get a Hub and order an extra IP for $4.95/mo. Then they would say but it would be more economical in the long run to get a router which shares a single IP.
They have to note that you can get an extra IP for $4.95/mo but they also never said that the CSRs couldn't mention routers.
Now, why forwarding some sort of problem user to the legal demands dept, they will include a bit of proof that you have more than one computer running behind the router w/o the additional IPs. Other than that, I had never seen a TOS violation for conn. sharing.
I work for a large technical college in MN. I look at the people that graduate there w/two or less year degree/certs for various computer related careers...
Novell, Windows, and "Microsoft Office". We track the amount of money that these individuals make upon leaving our institution... They make over double what I do w/a four year degree from a large University.
Granted, some of these people have already been working in the field and just went to the college to gain their "official" certifications.
Still, if you are not "big on certifications", you may want to think again.
in case you are confused (which you obviously are), the Israeli was the first person from that country to travel to Space.
I find that more important than the "media sensationalism of war".

a toilet from 1973 probably did more than 8 gallons a flush. Three people during the day, using the bathroom 5 times a day, that's 120 gallons, which is 3600 gallons a month (on average).
in the past my father had setup a system for recycling the bath/shower water for flushing the toilet.
He used a large, old water heater as a storage tank, the water from the tub would go straight to the tank. When the toilet was flushed a pump would bring it to the toilet. It saved so much water that the water co. changed the meter on the house 3 or 4 times before they gave up...
There were several draw backs though... If not enough showers were taken (or conversely, too many toilet flushes) the tank would empty and get to the bottom "sludge" which was an orangish nasty that consisted of soap scum. This meant that if the tank was empty, the water would have to run for quite a while to fill the tank again. The toilet needed to be cleaned more often due to the soap scum. We had a nasty green toilet from the 70s at the time so it was harder to notice. The pump broke down once and needed to be replaced. It was a small price to pay for all the money we saved over the years.
Composting, shmomposting. Saving water is the way to keep more money to yourself.
you may not want to, but they want to use this water to make the snow. I am sure that they are FAR less concerned w/the amount of water that they use to flush the toilets than the amount that the use to make snow.
If they are going to go through this (no doubt) expensive cleansing process to put this water on the mountain, it must cost them a SHITLOAD to use fresh water to make the snow.
You can at least HOPE that your lift tickets, etc go down in price;)
The government doesn't really have a place in using taxes for the upkeep of the Internet. It's a private sector ordeal. They can use money they already took from us (yeah, I just lost $297 in taxes this month, that's a 1/3 of my pay) and put upgrades on whatever private uses they have for the Internet.
We have already given them "tax" money on toll roads. What the fuck have they done w/those? Go driving in PA and play whack-a-mole-potholes.
Only summer comes, and the code isn't ready. It isn't ready in the autumn, either, and this starts to play hell with Sendo's budgets. December rolls round, and according to Sendo, bugfixes that carriers have requested are being refused by Microsoft. Sendo is in a cash crisis, and a call to VCs is spurned. So Sendo asks Microsoft for a further cash injection, which is declined:
"Microsoft refused with the full knowledge that this refusal would push Sendo to insolvency", claims Sendo in the filing.
This sounds an awful like the Mafia. Take over a business. Milk the shit out of it. Keep saying you will take care of it. Burn the damn place down when it fails (as if you cared in the first place).
You expect to believe that another large structure would be able to withstand an explosion of that magnitude in the basement level and not collapse like these did?
Then you believe that being hit by two fucking planes and the buildings standing strong for the amount of time they did doesn't mean that they were VERY well built?
If you think that any building out there would withstand that you are a bigger moron than you seem.
They are so full of shit. I am too lazy on a Sunday morning to look for the article but they made tons more money this year than last. I download movies like fucking crazy (mostly DVD rips). But just last week (in a 7 day time span) I went to see three movies (Gangs of NY, LOTR, and Harry Potter 2). Two of those movies were w/another person (Gangs of NY would not be appreciated by my gf:) I have rented 3 DVDs in two weeks...
Now. Sure. I have probably 100 DVD rips. But that doesn't mean that they have lost anymore money on me than they would have on anyone else.
If I didn't download them, I wouldn't have watched it at all. No money lost here.
They made a fortune on me in the past two weeks... Get over it Hollywood. When your fucking "stars" quit parading around in their jewels, fancy cars bought for each other, and see through dresses and start showing up to $1 theatres dressed in rags and dragging four children along that you had to pull from the nearest dumpster after they ate for the latest hollywood premiere, don't come crying to me.

they are counting on the inherent laziness of Americans. People think that it is just easier to go online for most items.
*I* for one, would NEVER goto walmart.com when I could drive the two minutes to go there.
I also refuse to buy anything computer related from retailers (aside from display models that have been marked down to like $30 from 100 at Best Buy).
I would MUCH prefer to shop BB online just so I don't have to demand that another little rat doesn't bother me while I am in the store.

it's really sad that you had to describe in more detail what the "pong paddles" were.

I used to play Arkanoid on my C64 w/the "wheel things". Ahhh, that's my next move. Buy an Arkanoid arcade machine

they got some REAL shitty skiing at that resort.
who cares if RH drops support for older distributions?
Personally I would MUCH prefer that they did this more often. Linux distributions are full of programs that need to have constant updating.
So we should bash RH for basically forcing people to upgrade and be more secure?
Go Microsoft and go RH. Force the morons to fix the problems or the plagues will continue to effect the Internet.
now I can pretend those videos of my naked nextdoor neighbor are live...
you are a "fan" of me. I assume you are upping those posts +5. That's why. The post is really just rated 2.

What building in existance right now do you believe to be able to withstand the impact of 767s?

Apparently in 5 million years the earth will be people-less and in an ice-age covering most of Europe.
;)
I am still a staunch believer in the fact that "global warming" is something that the Earth will fix on it's own.
Whether or not we are part of that process is of no concesquence.
Animal Planet agrees!
