    what's to say that even if other people write something about the topic that it's right? Plenty of poorly researched ideas move through circles and even end up in other's research.

    Most people twist previous research to fit what they are trying to say anyway (that's the nature of it). AFAIAC it's all bullshit anyway.

    Unless they are showing HARD evidence (which in recent months they have been making up as well) and others have reproduced the same results, it's all about money/greed/profit.

    Over the years I have gone through several CDRW's 4x RICOH died and wouldn't write past the first track but would continue to read just fine, 32x Que! or something died in 3 months, and now I got a new 40x CDRW w/a new computer... The kernel reports that it is a 40x burner but the fastest it will burn is about 27x.

    I am afraid to even attempt to buy a DVD burner for fear of it burning a single DVD and dying w/no chance of replacement :(

    Someone else noted that the terrorists are the only ones that will stand up. While I feel what they said is dumb, I see their point.

    We are all just standing idly by the water cooler having our morning chat as President Ripper closes down the base and prepares to launch an attack.

    Only the dorks know that WiFi isn't a security threat, and only the dorks know that it's only b/c coporate America wants other wireless methods to open up and make money from...

    no.

    All round trip. All booked well in advance. Beard is neatly trimmed, hair is short and combed, prescription medicine is in my name, car stereo should have been questioned at the security entrance after going through the X-ray (not at the gate), I wear clean clothes, and nothing to suggest that I am a member of any small minority faction...

    These trips were from SMALL airports to SMALL airports. Connecting flights were at large airports but generally at the large airports is where the 20% of skipping came in.

    Toledo -> Pittsburgh -> Scranton
    Minneapolis -> Philadelphia -> Scranton
    Dayton -> Charolette -> Savannah

    I have been searched at the airport EVERY single time I have flown.

    I was just searched for explosives, stopped in the next line, questioned as to why I had prescription blood pressure medicine, and why I had a car stereo in my bag.

    I don't know if it is the beard or what, but I should not be picked for the random searches over 80% of the times I board a plane.

    the midshipmen themselves are the property of the government. The school can do as they wish.

    Downloading of copyrighted material is usually against a school's TOS anyway. So if they were breaking that, and the school even owned PART of the computers, they had the right to confiscate them.

    the majority of people that MS really cares about marketing to are people that are home users and bullshit artists at businesses who don't care about anything...

    you mean in an age where we have CDROM and DVD-ROM and searchable indexes and I was using Microfilm and Fiche (like I do everday in my job)?

    I work w/records are are 30+ years old. They are on Microfiche (sometimes really bad copies).

    They will have the tools and they will know how to use them, believe me.

    I think that storing everything on computers will make historians jobs MUCH less difficult but a lot less fun.
    Doing historical research is fun b/c you get to get your hands dirty (literally). I spent 6 hours a day for three weeks researching crime rates in Toledo, OH during prohibition (before, during, and after) and b/c the books were all handwritten and they were so old my hands turned black for days at a time...
    It would have been MUCH easier if all the information was sorted and easily found I guess it would make future historians jobs easier but what fun would that be?

    and what makes you say that? You think that people who uncap their modem cfg files aren't breaking the law? They aren't stealing service?

    Are you seriously saying that you don't care that someone else would be taking ALL the bandwith that you MIGHT possibly have? If someone is taking a 10mbit pipe and you are only supposed to have 1.5mbs there are 7 other people that are out of luck b/c of one person.

    so one of them uncapped to 100/100. The bandwith of a T1 is 1.554mbs. The most a cable modem will probably get is 10/10. That's a DS3. That's more than $600/mo.

    I guarantee when they come to the door they will confiscate my music collections w/o first realizing that they are all legal.

    Are they going to come and want you to prove that the music you have downloaded is yours? That you don't have the time to rip it but that you actually have the CD (no matter how bad of shape it is in)?

    Are they going to check and see if the SHNs I have are of live shows?

    These people were doing something that is OBVIOUSLY illegal. EASILY determined. My MP3/SHN collections are not.
