Sorry but the games that they ported were already out for a long ass time, didn't really catch my eye, and I really didn't see a need for them.
As far as the comment in another post about how people wanted the Linux binaries for free: I don't think that users should have demanded it but I also don't believe that they were entirely wrong for asking. I don't want to pay $whatever for an old game and I certainly don't want to pay twice for a game I already own.
I am VERY sad to see a company that worked so hard at doing something that was ignored by the community but I don't see how they could have thought that they would turn a profit anyway.
Linux users are so used to receiving games for free (and other apps) I guess they just believe that all apps should be free (this is IMHO as I pretty much refuse to pay for any software).
Sorry Loki, you had a great idea, it was just too slow and too early.
just b/c someone else has done research for money does that mean that you are going to get a piece of that money? Does it matter if your seemingly insignificant document seems to be important to someone else?
grew balls? How about supporting what is going to sell?
Most people who buy computers from major vendors do NOT give a flying rats ass if they can get an alternative OS w/the machine.
In fact, if I was to purchase a machine that I was going to put Linux on I certainly wouldn't buy one w/Linux preloaded. I know what I do want and what I don't want. I wouldn't want whatever they shipped it w/guaranteed (just like I wouldn't want that w/Windows either).
On the other hand, Joe fucking Idiot is going to want every bell and whistle b/c he doesn't know his ass from third base.
It woudl be absolutely pointless for a manufactorer to sell an alternative OS on a machine b/c no one who buys through there would really want it anyway.
I guess some people would do it for the novelty of not having to buy MS liceneses but most wouldn't give a shit.
yup. people seem to email porn ads all the time to other people. Those messages get through (whether I want them or not) to the physical location of my home, how's getting a GMS message any different?
their location as far as lat and long go is NOT theirs. These are not physical locations (as far as the GMS messages go) and they do not own them when they buy their property.
They cannot buy space on a GMS message. They can post their message all they like but they cannot buy that location (they shouldn't be able to no matter what, that would absolutely defeat the purpose).
Coordinates on the globe in the air are not owned by the place that happens to sit there physically.
sorry, but if I am pissed off at the service I receive at a restaurant and I feel the need to stand in the parking lot telling people what I think I have all the rights in the world to do so. How the hell would this be any different?
What I would prefer is if you see a fucking cop sitting around the bend, you drive back, you pop in the message -- slow down now, cop ahead.
Something like the guy that used to watch for cops, drive back a mile and put up a sign. "State Policeman Ahead, SLOW DOWN NOW."
like when at Xmas time Best Buy had blocked off access to one side of each isle (I assume for two reasons; block access routes for shop lifters, and to trap your ass in the isle w/annoying motherfuckers trying to sell you shit).
That's the one great thing about shopping online. I don't have to put up w/Jeff Cerullo telling me the 300 greatest things about the 300mhz Celeron Compaq 6788.
I go in, I search for what I want and I buy it. I usually still save about $20 to $50 from what I would pay in Best Buy.
www.pricewatch.com is what I normally use for most computer shit. I use Amazon.com to get most of my obscure books, and I shop at Meijer for my DVDs. They beat Amazon's prices before shipping and usually have a decent selection of movies the day they come out.
right now you have the choice of either. There is no preference at this time.
WebMail is for people who move around and want to check their account from non-attbi network connected computers.
Some people also prefer WebMail to using Outlook Express (the only supported mail client -- although there are instructions on the web for other clients)
almost no one is worth $75. I refuse to pay more than $27.50 for a ticket and I really hate to even do that.
They bitch and moan about how they never make enough money when we are stealing their CDs via MP3 and they whine about how they are going broke b/c no one sees their concerts...
Ok. Couple of things.
1. most people suck hardcore live.
2. they never fucking tour enough.
3. the venues have terrible acoustics
4. putting up w/a bunch of teenie bopper pain in the ass kids
5. getting searched for every known narcotic and bomb when you walk in the door
6. paying a ton of money to see a show, then not being allowed to bring in your own beer, only to have to pay $3.50 for a cup I could fill w/my piss from the last beer in less time than it takes them to pour this one after waiting in line for 20 mins and missing a 1/3 of the second set.
That's why they are losing money on concert revenue.
Charge less, give more, and you will see larger returns.
yup but at least we don't have a single moron running the show telling everyone else what to do. This way at least there is some internal competition. I suppose in the short-term dictatorship works the best but in the long run free ideas work best (Hitler/Stalin rapid Industrialization vs. Free World)
I don't particularly like the comments made by this kid but I don't think he is entirely wrong for doing so.
yeah but the problem here is that it seems like most people want the "fluff". They see DSL as AOL w/a fast connection.
Working in customer service for a broadband ISP I see plenty of people who never have gotten off their homepage (portal) other than what links are on the page.
When a certain large provider went out and it changed hands one customer complained about no longer having the "Internet" and now only having "MSN".
He said, "I am not an MSN customer, how did I get their Internet".
As far as blocking of services. Again, another bit of fluff for you but not for most.
DSL and Cable are low cost already. 768k is about 1/2 of a T1 which costs $500+ I don't see you paying $250/mo for your DSL and in my case w/DSL I have used in the past 75 - 80k/s is worth the $50/mo I was paying. Now I use RR which even though the ping response really sucks the downloads are wicked fast. 200 to 350k/s is nice for $50/mo.
I can see the point of a wireless computer network, especially if you are using handheld devices or laptops. What I really don't see the need for is basically stationary devices needing wireless connections. Even most apartments have cable connections already accessable from any point in the room or allow you to make the changes to do that. If you are super neat and tidy and you had seeing any sort of cabling running around, I am sorry for you.
I just don't see the justification for all the work (as far as rights go on "redistributing" this) and I really don't see the necessity of investing large amounts of money into something that is ridiculous.
Use the cable line. It isn't that big of a deal. Unless you have a room that you want to put the TV in the middle of the room I don't see the feasability of this.
Warning: I was not a STAT major, but it my my belief that:
if they include specific pictures of nude music superstars (*cough* Spears *cough* Twain *cough* Hill *cough*) as wallpaper then I think that the 15s attention span might actually go up to 17 - 20s instead.
Some people might take longer b/c pictures would obviously have to be downloaded from www.thehun.com and sometimes depending on traffic that could take sometime, especially over traditional connections. That could bring the attention span all the way up to a *mind*-blowing 30s.
ahh, but see... When OS's get older they should get faster. GNOME and KDE have the age advantage. They are too young yet to have increased their speed. XP on the other hand has come from a long line of slow OS's.
You get what you pay for (or at least that's what should be the case). If you are going to pay $200 for something you should at least have a decent speed at which to work at.
I hear everyday, "I really need to upgrade my computer, it's only 500mhz". No, what you need to do is have an OS that is actually decent and runs well on a slower CPU.
Well that's just my opinion.
I really don't think that we should have to have a 2.2ghz machine just to open a couple of applications.
most people are going to be buying some sort of MS OS anyway. They are going to make a shitload of profit just from that.
Hell, MS should buy the damn emulator out and start selling the thing. The guy would get rich, they would get richer.
Although they wouldn't have the amount of hardware necessary to infiltrate deeper into markets (set top box, cable, etc) and have Billy on the TV every morning saying "Thank you for supporting Gatesville"
Me paying $300+ for an XBox + games when I already have a PS2 w/a shitload more games (and better ones IMHO) and when I already have a computer (that has a freaking network connection already) and when I have already sunk 1000's into it.
Let's see. XBox or emulator. You take your pick.
As far as it not supporting the joysticks. Thank god. Let's hope it never does. I would much rather use the keyboard or some other controller (eventually) anyway. If you have read my posts before you will already know my hatred of that gawdy, god awful, torture device.
I am just surprised that the emulator came along this early. I remember that PS2 emus took forever to come out (not like 2 months like this one).
can it catch a glimse of a speeding CowboyNeal running around after he gets the most votes on the "Which brand of lightbulb do you prefer?" Slashdot Poll?

so, even on the web people are allowed to voice their opinions as they see fit.
how is that different from someone posting a message about a restaurant?
it's not. no matter what you believe.
their location as far as lat and long go is NOT theirs. These are not physical locations (as far as the GMS messages go) and they do not own them when they buy their property.

umm http://?
Send check or cases of beer to my home address listed below...
That makes no sense to me.
:)
Playstation -> Homestation.
Windows -> Lindows.
I think that should be the only god damn piece of evidence in the Lindows case.
BTW -- that is the best quote from Dilbert. I am pissing my pants over it

that's not my point.
You asked "why are people so interested in boot times." I explained why.
A good majority of people don't see the need of leaving their computer on when they aren't using it. *gasp*
a good majority of people don't leave their computers on all the time, that's why.
Also a lot of people are still running ME or 98. Booting takes up to 5-6 mins on some machines. That's why they are so interested in boot times.

Go emus!
how about give up cash and let the schools decide what goes on it?
Who the hell are we to say, "hey let's have them give hardware and have RH come in and put Linux on it" Talk about brainwashing.
can it catch a glimse of a speeding CowboyNeal running around after he gets the most votes on the "Which brand of lightbulb do you prefer?" Slashdot Poll?
