I noticed exactly the opposite. w/2.4.9 I was experiencing almost daily lockups (hard ones, fsck became my friend). Today was my first lockup w/2.4.10 since I installed it. I was running a bunch of crap in X, compiling a kernel and upgrading to the latest and greatest Debian.
Machine went down hard as hell when I tried to logout of X.
I am currently compiling 2.4.11 so we shall see how that goes.
I think it is a little different now though. I am not as afraid of acts of terrorism on American soil as those people were afraid of the spread of Communism.
You haven't been bombarded w/propaganda bullshit about how terrorists lie in wait in everyone including your father. You don't have 1st graders coming home to mom and dad eyeballing them for the first sign of terroristic actions.
They are not waiting for an oppertunity to tighten surveillance, they are waiting for an oppertunity to hold us down even more than they already have.
Seatbelts are the perfect example. The legislators decided they wanted people to wear them (to benefit the individual of course) but they forgot that I am not hurting anyone else if I die in a fucking accident b/c I wasn't wearing mine. Who the fuck are they to tell me that I have to wear a restraint when driving my car?
Who the fuck are they to tell me that I can't do what the fuck I want when I want to do it? Including sending unbreakable encryption to whoever about how many times I smoke pot a day.
Get over it people. They want to get more control and that's it.
you are confused. We harbor just as many criminals as Afganistan does. We form a jury of peers to try these people (and they have attacks on Americans in just as much force (in many attacks) as that fuckhead did in a single blow)
I don't think that allowing them to try him is the best of ideas but I also do not believe that your statement was correct either.
Of course he will survive this. Iraq was basically destroyed yet that dumbass is still running around over there.
I don't see how attacking is going to stop any of the problems that we faced (and will probably continue to face).
I know that they have declared their little "jihad" and I have a feeling that more strikes on American soil is possible. Even though these are minor compared to what we can do over there I have a feeling that they will be just as problematic as the Sept. 11 fiasco.
I read on USA Today that they have a total of about 40k troops. I don't know what they think they are going to accomplish w/that low number of forces but whatever.
I am really intrigued by their "prepare of jihad" statement. Honestly I don't think that they quite understand that this is in no way linked to any such "holy war". Maybe the language barrier is really a problem.
This is not a holy war people. This is a retaliation for stupidity. A simple request that had a simple solution. Hand the asshole over and we are done.
If you really want to remain in power just hand the fucker over.
I do NOT agree w/war and I do NOT think that retaliations are really necessary but I also do NOT believe that the Taliban is being too smart about this ordeal. We gave them like 26 days or something. They had the idiot under their control and all they had to do was comply.
DO NOT SAY IT IS HOLY WAR, it is a god damn single person that is a fucking jackass. Turn the stupid shit over and be done w/it.
I wish the forces in Asia the best of luck and worry for them.
Support our descision and do your best to verbally attack the stupidity of the Taliban.
we should have a "everyone ranting about how horrible he is" filter.
I am glad that you people don't care to listen to his poor writing style and his crap reviews but I certainly would rather hear his crap than yours. Please try and refrain from it.
As far as that comment goes, why not try and give us a decent review yourselves. That would be a billion times more beneficial than whining when you can just block his stories.
The movie was definitly crappy. It was NOT worth the 5.25 I paid for it, and I don't recommend it to anyone.
I went to see Ratdog last night in Toledo. That was a smokin' show. If any of you audiophiles out there have a copy of it it would be much appreciated;)
Bobby Weir is getting older (bald spot) but he looks like he is in decent shape for his age. The Sax player is a fucking pain in the ass that needs to understand that he is NOT the lead in the band. Sax solos might be cool for Clinton 10 years ago but they aren't cool every 20s of a song.
I miss the Dead and Ratdog's show last night was like seeing my last shows all over again. They played a smoking Corrina, One More Saturday Night, and my personal favorite... the rocking US Blues.
Have a good day everyone:) Lay off Katz and go see Bobby:)
no he is saying not to use the fucking cameras at all. There is absolutely no reason for them if they aren't working.
This reminds me a lot of Demolition Man. Where everyone could be seen everywhere in the city. It was used to catch criminals yet the police officers didn't really know what to do w/the information they were receiving.
There is absolutely no reason that we should have to resort to EXTREME laziness and use cameras to track people. Yeah yeah, not enough police, not enough money. I don't care. Find some alternative to fight crime (or accept that you really can't) and live w/it.
I am sick and tired of being told that this will increase my security. It doesn't do that and it decreases my sense of private security.
If they aren't working then what's the point of having them?
fun? I don't see anything amusing about this at all.
In the United States there is a trucking company w/the same name as me. I am quite proud to see their name on the side of the trucks when I go by. I feel special.
I still think that anyone who does this is looking to make money.
I did not attempt to crack the technique, I did not attempt to go through some weird technique to get it into MP3, I just downloaded the damn thing from Gnutella/AG.
I say boycott the fucking CDs that have this. If you really want to win that's the way to do it.
Enjoy your music folks.. I will stick to the freely available stuff.
Support hippies, they are dirty and smelly and need money:)
bloat is nice and it seems to have mass appeal but it is NOT the answer.
I have never run SuSE but from what I understand it is quite the hoarder of utilities. I personally don't appreciate having to sort through billions of packages picking what I want to install but I have to b/c I don't need to have command-line tetris games, vi, and whatever else is random and not to my liking.
As far as "built-in cyrpto" another feature I don't feel I need as of right now. If I want to protect myself and my data I will but I don't need it bloating the kernel or my HD to do so.
I do like the fact that they are releasing a version of their distrib in mid October running what is currently (and might be then) the latest kernel. I hate people who come asking for tech support about upgrading their kernel (when they have NO knowledge of it at all) b/c they are running 2.4.2-ac69.
I doubt that we will all be running "RedHat XP" but I doubt that they will become "profitable". Venture capital doesn't tend to lead to profitable business in the computer world (as we have seen w/MANY companies -- especially Linux based ones)
SuSE (as per the single fact that I need babelcrap to read their release) needs to market to people other than the Europeans in order to be profitable and they need to clean up their install (Mandrake I assume is the current leader).
OpenSource is a Good Thing. Use e/o's shit. I have always wanted: Burger King burgers, McDonalds Fries, and Wendy's frosties all under one roof. Linux can do this people. Make it happen.
LARGE files, SLOW print times (as per me printing out over 80 pages on a HP laser jet today for research), and the need for third party software to decode the stuff (plugins, etc).
they don't include many of the items that are VERY important to many people.
For me WP and Word documents will always include footnotes (Chicago styles are not easily converted in "text" format)
It would take me some serious time to send over a document in TXT and reformat it back to the way it needs to be to be acceptable.
I agree that people should not be sending around.DOC files for no reason (as they usually do).
What I think needs to happen (speaking of all these *fucking* recent monopolies on standards for files on the Internet -- Why not make a uniform document standard (no, not XML) that is mandated... Fuck MS and what they want to do. At least this way they will be forced to have fair competition (as no matter what document is released it will have to conform) and they basically will have to have better software to compete.
from the article: The new version of StarOffice is simplified to make file exchange easier. The software has support for XML file formats; more robust Microsoft Office import and export filters, including support for Office XP; and redesigned dialog boxes, new templates and graphics.
will the "more robust support" actually be decent enough for serious transfers between my Word documents? Also an important feature would be importing WordPerfect8 files. I have 100's of papers written in WP8 and for me to switch over would require filters for that. Anyone know anything about that?
I am going to try it as soon as I see some more information (the website was lacking what I really wanted to know).
I really hope I can ditch WP8 (although it is still the best for what I need) and run something more up-to-date:)
umm, a friend of mine had her laptop stolen from her house off campus this year. She ended up getting a laptop w/a thumb print authentication and it works quite well.
She said that other people in her house were all pissy (girls, go figure;) b/c those w/o computers were using her laptop to talk on AIM but can't now.
Seems to work just fine. Kinda cool as far as I am concerned. Although I really don't know how effective this is for stopping stealing.
make ceramic heat sinks that absorb the damn heat from CPUs and power the whole house. I know that if I had one of this on my little Alpha UDB (space heater) I wouldn't have to worry about my $90/mo electric bill.:)
At least the little box would be worth more than the MP3 server it is now.
obviously nothing of this solar system. Who in their right mind would buy anything from Earth? You want to goto the Blahblah galaxy and get all your hardware there. They are known for their blahblahs and blah.
I don't even know what to say about all of this. I am so annoyed at the fact that the RIAA seems to think that this is a Good Thing.
It isn't a Good Thing, it is a Bad Thing (obviously).
They have eliminated the free use clause here by saying you can only do it on MS computers. This is a violation of my right as a consumer to do what the fuck I wish w/a product.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. Do NOT take away my rights as a consumer to do w/a product as I please. I bought the CD, I am allowed to make backup copies, resell it, or use it as a frisbee.
Who the fuck is the RIAA to decide that the Free Use clause is a bunch of shit? Who the fuck are they to decide that MS is the one that is going to have exclusive rights to distribute music on the computer? And who the fuck isn't going to buy this shit when it comes out?
In the past several weeks we have seen plenty of proprietary systems for blocking people from copying demo CDs. We get pissed about it but it is their right to block that (as they are promos). No one really cared b/c it was a small group of companies, poor choices of music, etc. Now they want to do this to all of us.
I seriously think that we are going to get screwed over here. If you are going to want music, you aren't going to have a choice but to buy this crap .
I am glad I listen to music that is freely distributable but I do enjoy some music that isn't. I rarely buy CDs now b/c of the insanely high cost but I am seriously reconsidering not buying them at all.
Fuck the RIAA, fuck MS, and fuck whoever is going to let this happen.
Why not have child accounts. Something that can be detected by the porn-sites. I have no idea (I am not that smart) but a lot of responsibility would still lie on the parents so that the children are not able to access their parents account...
I believe this to be the easiest way. That way sending out information that verifies age wouldn't be as cumbersome and dangerous.
Here at BGSU they don't want to teach that. They want to teach you how THEY want you to think.
The president (Sidney Ribeu) has recently instated his "Core Values" program.
* respect for one another
* cooperation
* intellectual and spiritual growth
* creative imaginings

Now, what I am really annoyed w/is his "minority initative" trying to recruit more minorities to the University and promote "diversity". Doing this is not such a problem but the campus itself is primarily caucasion. He is trying to show that we are not this way by making sure that all University ads, etc are showing minority students as the majority. Basically lying to the public about the massive exclusion of non-white students.
All teachers at the University seem to teach certain topics and want nothing else. It has been said in the Opinion columns of the University paper (The BGNews that everyone knows that if you want a good grade on a paper just write about the political agenda that the teacher openly discusses (differs per prof) and you are set. Go against that and you will Fail. Now, myself I haven't seen too much of that (as far as paper writing goes) but I definitly disagree w/the profs openly expressing their political/social views to the class. No one cares if you are Republican/Democrat and if you hate Gore/Bush (for example purposes only).
In college you are supposed to learn to learn. Not learn how the prof/president feels how you should act outside the University.
Stop worrying about core fucking values (Kindergarten is for that) and start worrying about teaching us what we should learn.
yeah well I knew that one would be bad so instead I went to see The Musketeer and suffered more horribly than those stabbed in the movie.
The premise of the movie was fine (young man, wants to revenge father's death) yet the rest sucked. The acting was pretty bad and the dialogue was worse.
There were two saving graces. Humor -- I don't know if it was intended in all the places it came up (the exhausted horse that he said he would come back for like he was leaving his love) and Heather Grahmn PG-13 nude in the bath-tub;)
I suggest finding another movie to see this weekend or waiting for Johnny Depp in From Hell:)
just b/c they control a good portion of the Excite@Home network (many markets were bought out by AT&T @Home) does not necessarily mean they have a monopoly, it just looks that way;)
At least their service is decent (from what I can tell). They are fair w/what they give, and they are fair in giving support.
I am sort of upset about them selling it off, I was about to buy Excite@Home stock (since it was like.11/share) ehhe.
