As far as blocking AC's... I say put in a AC asshole filter. Only blocking the god damn idiots that post (anything w/your specified words).

I keep all my old hardware for no reason just as many others do. It sits in my closet and people marvel at the size of the collection. I think people see it and feel the need to donate to me.

it says that you have to use POP3. Why wouldn't that include any client that supports POP3? There is nothing in a POP3 transmission that is hidden. If they were really forcing you to use it (which I highly doubt) then you could trick the server into thinking that you are coming from an Outlook client.
Personally I would complain to your ISP about the lack of service for non-MS clients (if this is truly the case).

Personally I believe that the best way to do it is to allow free recording of every show that an artist puts out. A devout fan is more likely to BUY a studio album if they can already get a taste of what the band is capable of on stage.
I hate the idea of copy-protected CDs (and personally I will not buy them) but I have a feeling we won't have a choice. Boycotting them won't work (try boycotting any chain, etc) it is HIGHLY unlikely that numbers of bought CDs will drop in any significant amount. (Just as they haven't dropped due to Napster, Gnutella, whatever).

I definitly believe that people are turning more and more to the web for instantaneous news updates and research material but I seriously doubt that many people believe that EVERYONE is a real journalist.
