You people are giving me a headache. There is no mention about the removal of error checking. Actually, the article is lite on any technical details, but you can divine what they are doing well enough. Basically, it seems they keep tweaking mtu rwin, ect until they get the best connection they can.
Even if you change your alias and try to change your style of writing and fake being someone else a good many people that know you will still recognize you. People seem to be very good at recognizing such patterns.
I have to disagree with you here. People are idiots, and given 5 minutes your average person will be more than willing to demonstrate this to you, often repeatedly.
From example, I know of one woman who was staulked by a single guy for months online, yet she thought it was a different one, each time he got a new screen name. And were this an isolated incident, I wouldn't even mention it, but it's not. I know of several women who do the same damn thing, and then they whine and bitch about not finding a good guy ( meanwhile, I'm edging towards the door, because they're giving me that "hungry" look ).
No, people are retarded monkeys, and the risk between online and real world are about the same if you are a moron, albeit different.
I ssh tunnel smb between work and home all the time, dsl ( async ) to dsl ( async ). Works fine, if a bit slow, although I admit smb is not designed for it, it will work pretty well.
Note that I'm not suggesting you stream your home MP3s to work and back ( can you say, shoutcast?:) )
The OJ verdict came as a surprise to a many people, ie those who still felt it was possible to obtain justice throught the courts.
Fortunately, there are those of us who gave up on humanity long ago, and therefore were not shocked at all by this or any other outcome where people are involved.
Give people a choice between door #1 and door #2, and they will not only pick door #3, but they will do it just to spite you ( or to be "different". Your choice which is worse ).
Because people deserved to be paid for their work. I agree to this and accept this, and I think iTunes is exactly what the industry needed all this time.
Incidently, who else thinks the music industry messed up big time by not coming out with something like this before napster. Think about it, songs for a buck, easy to get, and consumer grade.
Had they done this, we all would have been "Napster who?".
Saturday morning cartoons suck. Hell, REGULAR cartoons ( for kids ) suck, period. I've watched a few for as long as I can stand it ( read: 5minutes ), the only thing that's a mystery is who keeps giving those idiots money to make shit.
No, where you will find the classics is where they've always really been: Where people make cartoons for adults.
Powerpuff girls, Jonny Bravo, and especially Shrek come to mind ( of the american populars ). These were cartoons that were not made for children, tho they are typically harmless enough to be viewed by kids. They were made for a more mature audience ( well, sorta anyways ), and thus have that timeless quality that the old Looney Tunes has.
If only a few people use it, it isn't an alternative.
That has to be the dumbest thing I've heard today ( but not, interestingly enough, that I've heard this week. I live in a very 'tarded area. Must be the water ).
Of course it's an alternative, much like OS/2 is an alternative. Just because people don't use it, doesn't make it somehow "less" an alternative.
Let me know if I used words that were too big for you.
"Moles and trolls, moles and trolls, work, work, work, work, work. We never see the light of day. We plan this thing for weeks and all they want to do is study. I'm disgusted. I'm sorry but it's not like me, I'm depressed. There was what, no one at the mutant hamster races and we had one entry into the Madame Curie look-alike contest and he was disqualified later. Why do I bother?"
People wonder why Linux hasn't conquered the desktop. People of/. I give you exhibit #1.
I never understood why this was such a big deal anyways. Yes, it'd be nice to have an alternative to MS, oh wait, we have that ( rh8/mandrake spring to mind ). Beyond that, linux should be focusing on where it's already strong at: The server.
Ok, so I agree with this. Stupid people have no bussiness being behind the wheel of a car. I can not say the same about the computer, of course.
At least when a computer crashes, it doesn't directly kill anybody.
I do think there is a level of understanding and education that makes a good computer user out of even the most think headed retards. Like one of my contracts, those folks are seriously retarded, and they won't let me train them. So instead, they pay 3x in support ( ie: my bill ) when things break, instead of a lump sum for training.
Yeah huh. Let me just point something out here: You are married. This is the case for all the geek chicks in my area, regardless of their physic.
Could be my area, the only ones that aren't married around here are divorced at least once ( 23-26 year old range ).
What can be done to stop sales and marketting (and politicians) from diluting perfectly good technical terms.Something nasty, hopefully involving electrodes.
Don't feel bad, you'll get lucky eventually, and then get modded to troll ( note: I'm not saying I don't deserve it, but how many times would you get a chance to get FP on/.? )
Well, I don't know what normal is, but I'm converting all my clients to it. So that'll make 50-100 computers using it.
I wouldn't call it slow, it's nice and zippy on my 1gig t-bird. Hasn't crashed once, and I'm doing quite a few odd things with it.
*shrug*

This isn't revolutionary so much as evolutionary.
*sigh*
Let me guess, in your rush to FP, you neglected the little things ( like reading the article )?
Am I right, or are you stupid?
SmartTCP. It sounds like equipment is constantly tweaking the connection for the optimum through put.

Sure, they can give brains to rats, but I'll be impressed when they do the same the politicians.

"Why am I the only person who has that dream?"
Or, my personal favorite bit of the movie:
"Moles and trolls, moles and trolls, work, work, work, work, work. We never see the light of day. We plan this thing for weeks and all they want to do is study. I'm disgusted. After a long session in the game, I have to watch myself for the first couple minutes.
There's just something so rewarding about running someone over, waiting until they get up, and running them over again and again and again...

No pepsi?! *whimper* Pepsi ....or.... Non-round.
I'll let you folks know what I decide on.
What can be done to stop sales and marketting (and politicians) from diluting perfectly good technical terms.Something nasty, hopefully involving electrodes.
4 bits ( half a byte ) == nibble. Or so I thought. *shrug*
Damn it, I got that wrong. I got laid first, then did the fp. I skipped step two it seems.
Don't feel bad, you'll get lucky eventually, and then get modded to troll ( note: I'm not saying I don't deserve it, but how many times would you get a chance to get FP on /.? )
fp? Wow
