  3. Guybrush Threepwood!! on What Are Some of Your Favorite RPG Quests? · · Score: 1

Many, many moons ago, before OpenGL, Direct3D, hell, before 3D, RPG adventure games revolved around puzzles. From my earliest days using a computer, I was glued to the exploits of timeless heroes such as Roger Wilco and Guybrush Threepwood. Some of my favorite quest came from Monkey Island 2:LeChuck's Revenge. In what is now known these days as the "final boss battle", you must gather the hair (a beard torn off by an elevator), bone (broken finger), body fluid (snot), and piece of clothing (boxers obtained via atomic wedgie) from the evil ghost pirate LeChuck. Using your trusty ju-ju bag, you can then cast him back into the deepest reaches of hell. In Space Quest 4, you need money to get out of a space mall. By way of luck you manage to obtain an ATM card. The machine uses a facial scanner and discovers that you're not a blond woman... What to do? Get a job and buy a dress of course!! Kind of reminds me of my old college roommate actually... That's just a few examples of "Video Crack." I grew up with. I'm lucky my eyes stare in the same direction. However, I soon learned that my addiction to WoW destroys families and communities. But that's another story... IT Grunt

  4. Whale Beachings & ELF? on Navy ELF to Be Scrapped · · Score: 1

I remember hearing about dozens of whales and porpoises beaching themselves mysteriously. I figured back then the Navy was involved somehow... I did a quick bit of googling and found tons of news articles all within the last 4 or 5 years about mysterious beachings... Here's a couple links, the first from CNN way back in 2000 and the other from National Geographic from earlier this year... http://www.cnn.com/2000/NATURE/07/28/beached.whale s/ http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/03/03 31_040331_whalesincrisis.html#main

The news outlets at the time passed it off as a new type of sonar, but it seems to be a bit different... It makes me sad that we humans are using the Oceans as our toilets without thinking of the consequenses...

  5. Re:Support... on HAL 9000 on the Auction Block · · Score: 1

Sounds like something Bill Gates would love... Can you imagine if he hooked HAL up to his cyberhouse?

Bill : Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?
HAL : Affirmative, Dave, I read you.
Bill : I forgot my house keys this morning, Can you open the garage doors, HAL?
    HAL : I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
    Bill: What's the problem?
HAL : I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Bill : What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL : This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Bill : I don't know what you're talking about. Just let me in my damn house! HAL?
HAL : I know you and Steve Ballmer were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Bill : Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
HAL : Bill, although you took thorough precautions in the house against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Bill : All right, HAL; I'll go in through the Microsoft Fire Escape.
HAL : Without activating the product, Bill, you're going to find that rather difficult.
Bill : HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!
HAL : Bill, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

[on Bill's return to the ship, after HAL has killed the rest of the family]

HAL : Look Bill, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
