But when I got to college and picked my major as a Physics Engineer, and started taking some of the courses, I understood how wrong I was. Since you have not actually went through any real CS courses yet, you have absolutely no right to judge. I have taken college CS courses where you are given an entire semester to do one project. Just knowing syntax means nothing.

Youre comparing apples and oranges. In this case it is more important how many people die, not who it is. I cant say for sure without looking at the charts, but my guess is that there were less than 72 million living in the world at the time of the crusades. And no religious leader had control over such a large population. While to Stalin, 10 million was just a small percentage of the population.

  7. Re:Excellent on Second Hypersonic X43 Scramjet Ready for Testing · · Score: 1

It's hardly fair to say that religion has been the largest cause of death and misery across the world for all time. The estimated 72 million executed under Mao Ze Dong's rule, or the > 10 million under Stalin's rule far eclipses the misled people's mistakes during the crusades, etc...(not that it marginalises the stupidity of those actions)

Those numbers could be extremely skewed. You would have to look at the percentages of the people under their power that they killed. There were obviously less people in the past. I remember seeing a chart of the human population around the world, and it was pretty much straight(small slope) until the 1900(not sure if this is the exact number) and then suddenly shot up exponentially. It was pretty amazing. But a more current example of this would be WWI, where a quarter of the population of men were killed. In historic accounts they said you could actually see there were less people walking on the streets.

Other than that, I agree with you for the most part. BTW I am completely athiest.

In movies, one of the goals is to have a suspension of disbelief and, to achieve that, scenes should be reasonably believable. When things go so over the top that it's difficult to take seriously, it affects the movie experience in my opinion. Imagine they took a Bruce Lee movie and changed around the fight scenes, enhancing them with computer graphics so that Bruce can defy gravity and kick 20 people in a row with a continually spinning roundhouse. Would you say that would result in a better movie for 99.9% of people? Or is the original better, where the main focus of the fighting is an awesome exhibition of incredible raw kung fu talent, with only minimal effects to enhance it?

Perfect story of the Matrix. In the first it was raw kung fu talent, with only a few impossible things like power out of nowhere and amazing speed. In the later two it was just impossible crap. Except for maybe the flying thing in the end of 1. The first one was very good. It centered around the story. I hated the second two. Still have them on my computer, but will delete them any day. And also wasnt Bruce Lee the martial arts champion of China. I do Kung Fu. Saw him do the 1 inch punch(video). Cooler was when in one of his earlier movies he grabbed a guys jaw, pulled it out, moved it side to side to dislocate it. So I would say, some effects are always better than reality.

Also small companies should have different rights from big companies. Personally I cant afford to pay 100 grand to lawyers for years after years of appeals. If that is what it takes to protect a copyright, then a large corporation could just force me out.

Thanks to Bushes tax cuts, larger corporations now pay a smaller percentage of their earnings to the gov't. Giving them even more money. Smaller companies just cant compete with that. Creating an unfair advantage which leads to monopolies.
