He claims to read books, or at least has Tony Snow do it, which isn't quite the same as actually reading. And do you really think that a president, even a lame duck with 33% approval rating is going to come out against literacy or admit that he doesn't read?
Haven't tried to call a "non-emergency" number for the police lately, have you? In my home town, if you aren't calling a specific extension for the local police dept, your call gets routed to the county 911 operators.
Pournelle's real issue was that they didn't respond to an email he sent. I like his work, I think he's a pretty good author, but at the same time, he can be a bit of a prig.
If you think H1B come over to "run" companies, you made one too many trips to the keg yourself. They are used to reduce cost and supress wages, but they don't get the C class jobs.
First, the map had no geographical component. Yep, could have been projected on a cube or a pyramid, wouldn't have made a difference. The sphere thing was just a gimmick. Now if he could only have projected it on something FLAT.
I can understand not providing the sphere as maybe a little java applet that would allow readers to zoom in and/or rotate the sphere to get a better perspective. That would require more than a little effort.
But cartographers have been managing to project a two dimensional representation of a sphereical object for hundreds of years. Too bad they couldn't use some of that "map" technology to make the image more useful.
Two of the three bugs result in a denial-of-service-like situation, with the PC's processor maxed out at 100%, making the machine unusable until it's rebooted.
But will XP SP3 be able to play Halo 2, a game that a pentium III Xbox can run, but apparently too complicated for anything less than Vista?
I think you just crushed the Science News servers.
Which is why we need to move to IPv6.
Kentucky has a constitution AND a bigger population... and if you ever talked to a native, its own culture and language. Are they getting a TDL?

I'm sorry, what was her number again?
Cause really, what are the chances that a hurricane would destroy a major metropolitan area? Oh wait...
