I don't know about Top 5, but Romero's ad campaign for Daikatana has got to be in there somewhere. I don't mean to slag on Daikatana just because it's Daikatana, but please, saying that I'll be Romero's bitch? Come on!
Even if Half-Life, which many contend to be one of the best FPS's out there, had used this slogan, I wouldn't have bought it out of principle!
I've just picked up the PC version, and finished playing through what seems to be the first mission. Here are some thoughts that I have so far:
- The intro was awesome, featuring some video (DivX) from the movie
- Controls aren't really intuitive. I dunno how to explain this. I've got a feeling it was designed with a console controller in mind, as compared to mouse and keyboard.
- Very, very short intervals in between level loads, although the load times are really short.
- Yeah, I'll agree with the NY Times on this one - the level design (so far) is pretty uninspired. There were a couple times where I ran in circles (under a time limit duress) because the level didn't give me a good... flow.
- Voice acting is great.
- The animations are pretty cool - I think they'd be a lot more fluid if my computer had a little more horsepower.
- Awesome in-game cut scenes.
- Great music. Sounds like it was ripped right from any of the movies.
All in all, I wish I had bought it for one of my consoles instead, but I've definitely played worse games. My recommendation? If you aren't anti-console, get it for one of 'em, but don't play it till you've seen the movie.
I used to live in the same area of Saskatchewan as this man, and let me tell you this, there aren't too many people that actually know the guy who are feeling *any* sympathy for him. He's a snake-oil salesman and a get-rich-quick bum. All his life he's done nothing at all productive, and now suddenly he's put on the "poor, overworked, underpaid, threatened-by-the-man farmer" act? Pfft. May he get what's coming to him.
I also realize there is a good chance this will secure me some bad karma, but I'm honestly not trolling:|
Well, I can honestly say, that with all the dev companies out there, anything that Miyamoto-san puts his hands on are the only games that I will buy absolutely blindly. I've never been disappointed yet.
Anybody else remember when gamespy.com changed from a generic "About Gamespy Industries" page to what it is today?
I was a paid newsposter for GSI at the time on one of their Planet sites, and it was hailed as a new revolution in gaming news. It was, at the time, supposed to be exactly this - your one-stop-shop for all gaming news. Look what it turned into...
I'm not sure about the Linux server, but the upcoming patch will released.

Like I said, those are just a few of the places to go - you'll undoubtedly find more :)

That's just mean!

"3D games were tried once - and failed because they weren't properly executed, but now that the processing power's there, who knows?," he said.
it almost makes you wonder if he was interviewed a long, long time ago...
I've been a reader since "Blue's Quake Rag". Jeezus, I'm old.
