They're upfront about censorship? BS. There are news blackouts on almost everything for the common person. Remember that 600K person march in Hong Kong a few months ago? Average Chinese had no idea it took place. They think their government tells them all the news that's fit to print. They believe the lies about Tibet, the lies about religion, the lies about Taiwan, because no one tells them different.
As for supression, see how you like when you are up late at night, worry how your family is because you may or may not have been caught bringing a Bible through customs.
Or maybe that this guy might disappear and his family never know under other circumstances. Or the fact that Chinese detains American citizens of Chinese descent when they go to China after writing such things?
Then, asses like Hu claim that it is the good for the Democracy in China. When someone claims otherwise, the Chinese either kick them out of China, declare colonial racism, or simple beat the poor bastard up.
Or the news blackouts over SARS. Arresting doctors who spoke out about it? Let alone the nukes pointed at Taiwan, or the loss of submarines, or coal mining disasters. This attitude is killing people!!!
Apple OS on an X86 computer? No. Michigan is going to go with Microsoft Windows XP and they are going to like it. There is going to be heavy use of Norton Ghost, or a similar product. Maintance will not be very difficult. (Any problem at all? Ghost it.) Virus protection can be easily managed using any one of the client-host virus updating softwares. And with new Microsoft servers (Server 2003 for example), it will be easy to automatically patch the workstations.
India was more closely aligned with the Soviet Block during the Cold War than with the US Block. Nevertheless, when compared to its neighbors, India is a stellar republic. That's not to say that India doesn't have a long way to go, but compare India to Pakistan, China, Singapore, Vietnam or Malaysia.
The Root Author is a Republican who reads Drudge, but doesn't read the article.
Clark is actually talking about Faster Than Light travel. And it's good we have a presidential candidate who is smart enough to understand the implications of said.
Clark is a great man and will be a great President.
You're kidding, right? Because if you had spent time in China, you would know that they are still routinely slaughtering people. And if Time is reporting on it, then you can imagine the news they chose to suppress to keep the Chinese government happy and them in the country. It's like Iraq. The news agencies will not report the real news, in order to stay in the country, make a few bucks, and report the fake news.
Forced abortions, the relocation of Hans to Tibet to destroy that ethnic minority, the placing of nukes next to Taiwan, the egging on of North Korea, slavery and rape of women. These are China's improvements? What has changed since Mao? Nothing. The leaders still kill those who oppose them.
Deng Xiaoping was initially a revolutionary, and then a reactionary. But even that is hard to tell, since all he really wanted was more power. He was not "the greatest leader China since independence." The greatest Chinese leaders can be found on the isle of Taiwan.
India is a democracy, and has the most "free" government in the Indian Ocean, East Asia region. It has a real democratically elected government, and an economy that will become very strong one day.
This is definitely a chilly article. It does not bode well for the region at all.
Poindexter was in charge of DARPA. For information about Poindexter, click here. Basically, the guy got caught lying to save Reagan.
Nothing DARPA did was going to fly with Poindexter in charge, espcially as something as attention getting as TIA. There were just too many liberal and special interest groups who had it in for the guy. So Poindexter quit, hoping that with his resigniation, TIA and DARPA would disappear back into the background.
It didn't. Now TIA, in it's present incarnation, is dead.
Yeah. I've noticed that. But that's mainly for teller apps. The more complicated backroom stuff is still going to be DBs only accessable through non-standard software for some time to come.
Every one of those goofy little loan products is Windows based. Every one of the bank sharing information is Windows based. Everyone one of major data-processors for small (>20 billion in assets) supports only Windows.
Look at FISERV, Metavante, Jack Henry, or Bisys. They all use an AS/400, but the banks must use Windows, or they will not support or sell their products to that bank.
I work at a financial instiution. Our data processor will not support Linux. Our customers and support at other banks will not be happy if we start mailing them open office documents. Tech support of the industry specific software we run will not support Linux.
It's time to get serious here. We're big boys. Microsoft is the way it has to be.
Clinton's administration stopped attempts on: Holland tunnel, Lincoln tunnel, George Washington Bridge, The Pope's life, and Millennium Weekend.
He caught the people responsible for: 1993 WTC, 1995 Guard Barracks, 1996 Khobar Towers, 1998 Embassy bombings.
He stopped the fighting in Bosnia far more effectively than Bush has done in Iraq.
When he left, the CIA and FBI were set up to fight against terrorism.
When Bush took over, he reversed course. He was looking for a conflict in Iraq. He wanted Saddam Hussein from day one. He told the CIA to shift focus from terrorism to nation building and all out war with Iraq.
Do you recall the GOP's fervor with which they attacked Clinton on terrorism? They thought he was making the stuff up. They attacked him on bombing a chemical plant in the Sudan. Now, Bush invades a country and can't find chemical weapons.
He had to post-war plan in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
Bush is a miserable failure and September 11th is his administration's fault.
If you're not biased either way, then you're sure making one heck of an effort to appear Republican and conservative.
Clinton did a lot of great things for this country. He made some mistakes too. But nothing like Bush is doing.
If you want a liar, take a good look at Bill O'Reilly, or Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Ari Fleicher or George W. Bush. Clinton lied about smoking pot and screwing some intern. They've lied to us about WMD, invading Iraq, September 11th, North Korea, anthrax and the election results in Flordia.
Hughes, the one's who gave the Chinese the technology in question, got permission in 1992 to sell the technology to China from the Bush Administration, not the Clinton Administration
Actually, they got it because they gave the GOP so much money in campaign contributions, they essentially bribed their way into doing it.
Get your facts straight. Catbeller has her's right.

It's a communist nation. What do they care for freedom of choice?
Odd enough. Thanks.
Trillian from Sluggy?
Yeah, it can. That's the point.
I've seen the previews, and there's no way it could be as bad as Episode 1 or 2.

TSL? TSR? How many folks did a double take on that? I know I did. Hmmm. I thought TSR had "died for our sins" long ago.
I'm creating an article in there so we can have an extended conversation. Also, I want what is best for the Chinese, not necessarily for China.

But it's time we started calling them Taiwanese.
Ticos can launch cruiser missiles with tac nuke warheads.

Dead bodies nothing. Unfortunately, there is a congressional investigation.
