Then again I won't use sites like that as i won't have control of my data. You are never really gone from facebook, it is all still there at best you can hide it somewhat. Even that though is difficult.
Or maybe I just don't have a large enough ego to be on there.
That is the point you can't do what you want when you have to carry a mouse and keyboard to get what you want done. Unless your going to go code all of your apps yourself.
Touch-screens have failed to date simply because there are very few applications designed for touch-screens. Android and iOS are changing this. it is why Windows 7 tablet edition is failing, and why Windows XP tablet edition failed.
And what if the fire dept can no longer use their radios, because of the EMF of powerline broadband? Is it worth it then?
i am actually not against smart meters as long as three things happen.
1) The monitoring stops at my house, they can monitor my usage, but they can't tell my equipment to turn off when they feel like it to help balance the power grid. 2) they don't interfere with the rest of the world. Fire depts, police, ambulance, all use a very large variety of spectrums, and shielding them all against the EMF generated by powerline broadband isn't going to be cheap. 3) they don't sell the end user the bandwidth, to keep the system secure.
The easiest and least expensive solution actually is to run a fiber line with the power lines. Hack resistant, fairly easy to deploy, non interfering, and lots of bandwidth so they can monitor both the meters and the transformers. The last measure is there because once you have physical access you can start hacking.
If you have to spend a couple of hours upgrading your interface before you can use your new toy then you should really think about finding a better toy.
Do you buy a car and install a new steering wheel, gas pedal, and in-dash system before you drive it?Do you spend an hour putting the keys in your keyboard so the layout is just right?
I don't know about sweden but there isn't a single national database for that information. The saving grace is the bureaucracy doesn't want to lose local control, so nothing works with each other.
Do you know it is legal in some times to commit a DUI, have your license revoked. You then move to another state and can get a new license in weeks. For as much as people love to think of all americans as gun toting idiots, the fact is if you travel state to state with a weapon you can be arrested eve if you are legal in your home state. There is no nation wide permit system. The best you can do is get a multi state one but that covers like 10 out of 50 states, and not all of them border each other. Getting caught in the wrong state with the wrong license is as good as shooting someone.
That is why america isn't going to become completely fascist. To many layers of bureaucracy to overcome. Even the DHS has a hard time in dealing with it. It is why Arizona has different border rules than California.
Well that and no one bothers to teach them what integration actually does. I know my high school calculus courses missed a whole bunch of useful stuff.
Then again I was always that student who could get A's and B's by showing up to class without studying or ever taking notes and fly through the tests. We really need a way to teach the gifted children in a different manor than the dumb ones who need it repeated twenty times.
While all that is true a Fireman also doesn't burn down your house so he has something to do either. A soldier doesn't go on killing people just because he still wants the excitement.
Julian isn't just saying that the information needs to be out there, but he wants to be the one who gets the credit, and the money for putting it out there. Wikileaks is a good idea, and a necessary one. They even need to earn money to operate. When you threaten someone because your not going to be first to the scoop, it puts you into a different place.
If Julain stepped out and let wikileaks run on its own that would be a good thing. But he will not let go of power. He wants to become rich releasing the secrets of others. That is what I have a problem with. because once you turn toward money as your primary goal, you will soon find yourself crossing other lines. Maybe the Chinese offer him a million dollars not to release information on them. He is on the slippery slope between a good idea that needs some money, and him becoming rich by selling others secrets for money.
You do realize Nissan is selling keyless ignition systems on their Sentra model line right? a $20,000 car isn't that much but you can get one of these systems.(I know I love the convience of mine, but I do wonder about the risks)
No. The wireless part is tied into the ignition computer. Basically in order to turn it off you have to replace a SOC, with a version that works without it.
When the battery in mine died. I have a "valet" key that functions like a normal key however it can be driven without the fob present. Useful, but not without risks.
These FOB's need to be passive but still with random crypto. or at least make sure the transceiver part of the circuit is passive and only use the battery for the encryption system.
Exactly. the Keyboard isn't going anywhere(Mice might fade slowly for tracpads, but that is also a debate).
Keyboards enter raw data very very quickly. However not everything needs quick data/ large quantities of data to be entered for those Keyboards will stick around.
Mice well they work well for some things track pads work better for others, some form of mouse will always be available along side the keyboard, As reaching up to click on the screen doesn't work so well.
Relative position in space and space itself are two different things.
What's the difference between pitch/yaw/roll in an airplane? What happens if you roll the plane 90 degrees? Does the pitch make you still go up or does it make you go left(or right depending on which 90 you rolled). Is it only a pitch when it does a vertical movement?
our 3 dimensions are based on a gravity source. Your deep in space, what gravity source do you orient yourself to determine which is pitch/yaw/roll? If you say your 1 au from the sun you could be anywhere along a sphere of space that takes you out of the solar system.
Latitude, Longitude, and height, even when extrapolated for interplanetary means still means your in SPACE. It doesn't matter where in space you are you have 3 Directions you may go(or a combination of them)
hmm now I think about this I wonder if that is why string theory has 10 and 26 dimensions. Each of the primary dimensions has a number of secondaries. So Space is 1 of the 10 but 3 of the 26.
too bad I don't have enough money to stay in college until I am 50 to figure it out.
What four dimensions? I personally only deal with 2 that I am aware of. Space and Time. Gravity might be one but that might also just be a side effect of Space too.
The difference between 1D,2D and 3D space are real however the space we live in is all 3D so why count it twice more than necessary?
There really isn't a single decent place to track and download software for Macs. Version tracker wasn't bad but now it suck. Even on the Windows side all the big name software repositories have more ads than software for you to download.
Yea 10 years, and 3 versions ago Windows Ran on various platforms, but only occasionally and then it only ported certian things, MS Office has never been ported to Windows on PPC, only Mac OS on PPC. Heck MSFT in 8 years hasn't even made a pen tablet friendly version of MS Office.
That is why people are surprised. it is something MSFT hasn't done, and has made damn hard for anyone else to think about it.
Compared to Any linux app you want on any platform is achievable, if not already done. Or compare it to OS X, which not only ran on 4 different arch's at once, did so with fat binaries that the same download would work across all four. Compare the fact the Mac's have gone through not one but 5 or 6 complete processor arch difference's over the years with relatively smooth transitions, and backward compatibility. (it takes a bit of work but you can run OS 9 on an intel mac with 10.6 at decent speeds).
This is why marijuana is bad for you. It allows people to come up with even more stupid thoughts than they can do on their own without the use of mind altering drugs.
That data center is for a revamp of Mobileme(a product that should be free), as well as storage for the new Mac App store.
Even ChromeOS which runs in the cloud, really is a cloud based OS. The OS is on the hardware which access the cloud for Data. All of it from Websites that already have that data.
On my work computer adobe acrobat takes 10-25 seconds to load. yesterday i tried to print a single page from the middle of a PDF and it took a good 10 minutes to process it., but only 5 seconds to actually print it when windows finally had control of the file. The processor wasn't loaded it is just that adobe acrobat is a piece of shit software.
Hard drives are one of two bottlenecks in current computers the other is RAM. RAM tends to be several clock cycles behind the processor. This is why I have high hopes for memresistors, if you can move the HD into RAM you can have a massive speed increase. of course all software will have to be rewritten, but that is besides the point.
That's the kicker. the people who believe the earth is the center of the universe are only nice to you if you believe it too.
if you don't believe it your lucky if they cast you out of their society, most likely they would burn you a the stake.
Deeply religous maybe nice on the outside, but if you disagree with them there is no recourse or second chances. I suggest you get to know some of them. They can be nice and friendly, then get into a small argument with them and see were it goes. It is scary sometimes.
First of all your phone should be locked with a basic pin. That limits how many people can access your phone without approval.
Second if all your passwords are one app click away from being accessed then you are using the wrong app, the majority of apps that need passwords store them encrypted. Things like mail, twits, fb, might all login automatically, but you still have to have the simple pin to get that far.
Last of all if your storing passwords for websites on your phone then your doing something wrong. Passwords that are hard to brute force but easily remembered arent that hard to come up with.
But that is almost exactly the same record as the Galaxy Tab. (The rate per month, not the total, obviously).
um how is 500,000 units sold a month equal to 900,000+ units sold per month?
But the WiFi only version being delayed is simply marketing realities. It will be released, perhaps tomorrow at CES. Apple took the same approach, holding back the wifi only version. The tab has only been out two months, so the wifi version can't possibly be 6 months behind, not net any way.
um no Apple held back the 3G version. So that is a straight up misconception on your part. and the 3G version was released 6 weeks later, just a couple behind schedule. Samsung has already lost eh holiday shopping season, And no one releases products in Jan, they always get delayed until April or may. Putting the wifi only version 6 months behind
Apple didn't invent the segment, but they certainly stole a march on everyone else. But it had nothing to do with any supposed superiority in IOS.
If IOS wasn't superior then how did apple steal the market from everyone else?It was the shiny case wasn't it?
Its just that Apple were the firstest with the mostest. (Again). They had 6 months of zero competition.
If your previous statement you say Apple wasn't first to the market as they didn't invent tablets. But then Apple was there first with the most units even though they weren't actually first? Are you trying to be straight up delusional? are you smoking pot? You are contradicting yourself, I suggest you take a time out for a long conversation with yourself to see if your really okay.
A perfect storm of tablets is arriving on the market this quarter.
I am hoping for at least one or two good competitors considering 90% of the tablets produced since the ipad was annouced have been crappy ones. I really want a wifi only galaxy tab, however it is too late for the market now. I have to wait for the next product and that wont be released for sale until April or May at the earliest. Remember no mentions soon to ship products at CES. Everything is 4-12 months away at a minimum.(if you want proof go look at last years CES and find out how many of those products actually shipped in 2010)
If a tree lands on Facebook would anyone care?
Then again I won't use sites like that as i won't have control of my data. You are never really gone from facebook, it is all still there at best you can hide it somewhat. Even that though is difficult.

Why would you want a full blown linux install? non of the apps will be tailored for a touch screen interface.
I don't know about sweden but there isn't a single national database for that information. The saving grace is the bureaucracy doesn't want to lose local control, so nothing works with each other.

But it doesn't work on ARM, at least not fully. I have been to many flash websites where the N900's flashlite wouldn't load the flash properly.
Yes I said it you are running FlashLite. Not Flash. learn the difference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash_Lite
So your saying the Y chromosome is an underpowered dog compare the the X chromosome?
Though i happen to agree with you.
