I use insert all the time at work, but that is for the Point of sale software. Numlock shouldn't exist it is the numpad for a reason. Caps lock also shouldn't exist or be pushed away from the keys. Not on the home row.
Though really things like this need reliable wireless communication setup to deliver the bandwidth. That way the ship can be in international waters while hosting the Piratebay.
Ooh I wonder if sealand is going to install a couple of Docks?
I don't know about him but the workstations at my work run either win 95 or if your lucky win 98se.
Why because with the NT line MSFT broke a lot of other companies networking protocols. So we wouldn't be able to connect to the server, which stores all files and applications.(The win95 machines being not much more than dumb terminals). Windows XP won't work as said server company never made a proper upgrade path for such a configuration. Linux might, but I would need an old school netware guru, and someone with enough knowledge of linux to configure netware inside linux but also Dosbox. As all the applications are Dos based. when this setup was first deployed Linux was at 0.9 something.
Then you have to figure out how to sell it to a computer illiterate cheapskate boss.
curious are they going to search every MP3 player, every Thumb drive, every floppy disc, or cd that enter's the country?
If I wanted to get information beyond the border without It being noticed, a partitioned MP3 player HD hiding an encrypted volume.
The MP3 player plays just fine, but only a physical search by a trained IT person would even notice that something was wrong. especially if I "upgraded" an old 20gb model with a 40 or 80 gb hard drive, and partitioned it in such a way as to leave 20gb for the player, and the rest was hidden from view, unless inserted into another computer.
I am wondering though how visible the seams are when viewing it in Real Life. sometimes Video camera's pick up subtle differences that can't normally be seen. Also Proper color correction should fix that.
I do hope those kinds of issues are sorted out before shipping.
Real Operating systems have been doing that for 20 years, yet MSFT only just introduced it a year ago.
Windows MSFT reinventing Unix Poorly. When MSFT implents something similar to X i will not be able to stop laughing. They already have come up with a real command shell (Powershell)
>>You have to click on the window who's menu you want to access (if it ins't focused), then click on the menu to access it.>It's a simple preference. You like your way and that's fine. I like my way and there is nothing wrong with that either. With that I agree 100%.
I used Windows and Linux for years, and just never was satisfied. While I have problems with OS X the only way for them to be solved is for someone to make Plan 9 pretty.
actually i would love a DVR that would tell the advertisers everytime i fast forward through their commericials. Maybe they would get the hint that they don't offer anything worth while.
I watched NBC for the first time in months last night, just for American Gladiators. i could have done laundry, and dishes in between their commerical breaks. In 30 minutes of broadcasting all of 13 minutes was actually spent on the program, the rest was ads. Let's not get started by the in program advertising, brought to you by Subway.
there may not be strong evidence for intelligent life in europe, but at least there is evidence. the USA has a long way to go to catch up to that part.

click on print, in the bottom corner is a button for saving as PDF in various locations with the options to add in new ones. That way you use OSX's PDF engine instead of Open Office's.
But that is the point. Over a holiday week as most children in the USA have off between christmas and new years, your going to have 50-75% more people online at any given time.
But you should have the infrastructure to handle that much load anyways. What gets me is that they are still having problems a week later after all those kids have already gone back to school.
Of course MSFT is probably running an all MSFT setup and are having problems scaling.
In order to get the same functionality as any linux distro, or even Leopard you have to buy Vista Ultimate. You pay a premium for it. Even OEM installed versions go for $130 bucks a piece. Not everyone can legally use the OEM versions so in order to be legal, you have to pay street price.
Unix was there for the local network 15 years ago. You would walk up to any terminal and could log in with all your settings, preferences intact.
It worked over the Internet too, but the general internet had way to much lag for X applications to run that way. It would be possible now if it weren't for MSFT and thier silly dog Apple. MSFT has done one good thing though, they brought down the cost of the hardware so everyone can afford some. Now if only they would bring down the cost of their OS so people can afford that.$400 for hardware, and $400 for the OS, or $600 and buy a Mac with all the features of the $400 computer, and $400 OS. Hopefully Linux with just the $400 computer cost can lower MSFt pricing a bit.
WPA is only 2002 or so tech. Windows XP only supports it in SP2 and above. Devices older than this probably don't accept it as it wasn't around when they were built. given the consumer industries record anything initially designed before 2004 most likely doesn't have support.
Silly question but how many menu bars do you use at one time? do you really have working multi touch computer OS on your desktop? It's not like you don't have to click twice to bring up a background window and then select the menu option. There are some exceptions to that with X window managers but that is the exception to the rule.
Having the menu bar at the top doesn't bother me, in fact it gives me more room to do things. I did have to get used to seeing qhich application was running at anyone time however. And then apple introduced Expose and I haven't worried about it.
well for one thing it would curb the RIAA who's media sentry company doens't have a PI's license so their investigations in several states are falling short of being prosecutable.
Apple makes 9 cents a song. with that they have to pay the credit card company, pay for the bandwidth, storage, ripping costs.
i would be surprised if apple has made 50 million dollar profit on the 3 billion plus songs sold. Amazon is one of the few who could compete on that level.
MacPorts or Fink give you all those *nix apps on OSX. you can have the best of apts, or BSD Ports and have a pretty GUI too. It is the best way to install things like nmap and ethereal.
I think this Meme sums it up best
OS X. Because making Unix easy was easier than fixing windows.
That's all OSX really is a pretty closed source GUI on top of BSD.
WPA is the security choice as it is harder to crack but not impossible.
The trick is all you have to do is lock the front door. That prevents most random theives. though if your sharing music via P2P unlock your router. that way you can blame others.

90% of the posts I make are during work. i visit three to four times a day. Of course I rarely respond in the same day. when i check my email account in the morning I read the responses to what I said and reply back. That way i don't get into stupid flame wars, or I can shut up when i put my foot on the keyboard.
If OSX is frustrating you , then you are thinking to hard. while I used to think linux could be as bad as windows at times, now it's not so bad.
I found that after years of using windows and Linux that with OSX I was Over thinking things. The thing with OS X though is that you can do 90% of the tasks with just a mouse.(and spend $5 more and get a real three button mouse with a scroll wheel, the OS supports it and you can do so much more) Stop and think it out logically. to adjust firewall settings, System preferences:sharing(to share with others): firewall: advanced settings if it isn't in the handy list already. I added bit torrent in two minutes and half of that was looking up the port ranges.
720p HD widescreen tv, inputs, coax, vga, HDMI, a few others.
Mac Mini computer. output DVI if I use the VGA cable, with a vga-dvi converter I get 1380x12?? the normal widescreen setup If I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor so i should get a pure HD picture the tv downgrades to 1220x10966 or some weird ass size and since it's not a normal resolution for the display the TV hums slightly and text becomes unreadable.
If I use the cheap older cable I get a better picture than with the fancy new cable? something isn't right with that. I know it's not a pure HD source but it shouldn't hurt the end user in such a way.
I use insert all the time at work, but that is for the Point of sale software. Numlock shouldn't exist it is the numpad for a reason. Caps lock also shouldn't exist or be pushed away from the keys. Not on the home row.
Funny I was thinking the same thing but with Plan9. Hurd is still a *nix.
sounds like a good job for Solid State Storage.

Guess what!!! some people don't mind paying for software. Especially if it is good software.
Oh and you can use OS X with completely free as in beer software. I use Abi-word instead of Pages or MS Word.
But unlike Linux I can install Adobe Photoshop.
Not to be mean but Ubuntu, and Red hat have 1/4 of the pacakges of Debian apt suppositories.
MacPorts or Fink give you all those *nix apps on OSX. you can have the best of apts, or BSD Ports and have a pretty GUI too. It is the best way to install things like nmap and ethereal.
