    you seriously have your wires crossed thinking you can't get paid for coding without software patents. MS knows this. I don't need to patent something to make money off it, it just need to write a good product that people want, if a crappy clone comes along and tries to steal my idea... well that just encourages me to come up with new idea's and to offer a better product or service.

    the 2 things MS is terrified of having to compet on.

    98 was flawed when it came to multiuser computing, so is XP to a great extent. vista is far better in it's security because of it's improvments in those area's.

    instant fail. i'm well aware of what it's like to run linux boxes, and the updating is -never- as smooth as it is with windows. your example of compiling from source in gentoo is an exceptionally bad example.

    does anyone here still think win 3.11 is better then win95? Vista is a better OS then xp, more secure and more stable. at some stage in order to improve software you must break compatability and increase features, build a fucking bridge and get over it people.

    Passivly monitoring traffic for this kind of thing is harmless, and i'm sure no one would mind as long as the agent used a little common sense and didn't immediately assume the person in the car was osama.

    or do you mean they are using googles service without googles permission? oh right, by leaving robot.txt in they are inviting search engines to index their information and search it, the permission to do so is implied.

    these company's are just cry babies that fell over each other trying to get top placed google ratings, and now they don't like the tiny bit of competition.

    if sites don't like what google is doing, delist. it's as simple as that, let the users have the power to decide how they browse the web not the other way around.

    and what exactly makes google another MS in the making? please explain what technological or contractual leverage google is exerting to create it's monopoly?

    doesn't the bible have passages in it that directly advise violence against homosexuals? the problem with the whole hate speech nonsense is that hating something is a natural human thing to do. it's not unhealthy and it's not wrong. expressing that shouldn't be wrong either, it's when you try to cordinate attacks on someone or group that it becomes wrong.

    as long as they did not commit any illegal acts then who gives a fuck if it tells you to go out and punch a muslim? that's free speech, where as your example of kiddy porn you have to break the law to create the film.

    no one is forcing these muslims to watch it, yet they think their being offended gives them the right to tell me what i can and cannot make up my own mind about.

    it's not freebsd you are thinking of - openbsd blows them down like fucking twig in a hurricane.

    I once made the mistake of posting about a few let downs of openbsd. Fuck me, from the reaction i got you'd think i had strangled kittens then sodomised them in front of school children.

    it all stemmed from their secure by default and "one security hole in 7 years" chant.

    i've been down this road in another topic...

    to cut it short dell and apple do cover similar price points on things, only the mac has less cpu speed, 1/2 the harddisk space and generally lower specs.

    if you wanted to compare exact spec's, you'll find mac's are $400 or so more expensive than the same dell.

    seeing a story on digg that bags apple lights up my fucking day. you can SMELL the anger, the sheer number of responses and their willingness to engage in pointless debate. it's even better when someone can find evidence that MS is doing something better than apple, watching them twist and turn in logic loops attempting to prove you wrong.

    ID vs evolution is the only topic i know of that creates more flames.

    I like the idea of making them pay property tax on it if they continue to insist on calling it property.

    not only that but make it law that they can declare what ever value they like for their IP, BUT anyone can purchase it from them for that price.

    so they can give a true value for their IP, get all the protections of regular property in exchange for paying tax on it.

    the current setup is a total free fucking ride for so called IP companys.
