    if u bothered to RTFA you'd realize they're bragging about system memory, not video card.

    I suppose the quote "fastest CPUs money can buy, paired with very fast RAM" should have clued you in that they were talking about CPUs and system RAM, not the GPU and RAM on the video card but if you didnt bother to RTFA it only follows that you wouldnt even bother to read the post you're replying to.

    it's funny to read the article and see them brag about the "very fast RAM":

    After the other review posted today about fast memory doing almost nothing for transcoding:
    "moving to tighter memory timings or a more aggressive command rate generally didn't improve performance by more than a few percentage points, if at all, in our tests."
    "Mozilla does show a difference between the settings, both on its own and when paired with Windows Media Encoder. Still, the differences in performance between 2-2-2-5 and 2.5-4-4-8 timings, and between the 1T and 2T command rates, are only a couple of percentage points."

    Only a 80gb and no burner? I know this is a "budget gaming rig" but come on, I would like to do a little more with it than just play games.

    spend the extra $100 and upgrade from 80gb to at least 200gb and make the DVD-ROM a DVD-+RW.

    He built a system with the bare minimums to get the games to run. Paying $500 to only play games is stupid when you could spend another $100 and play games and have the space to download & burn movies, music, games, etc. Sure he stayed focused but he ended up building something that'd need upgrading almost immediately, and although adding a DVD burner is very easy there's no reason not to do it now, not like they're expensive, spend the extra $30 (DVD-ROM was $20) and get a burner and $40 to get a 200gb hd (80gb was already $60).

    That's not a misprint, that's per square inch. So $1440 to $2160 per square foot.

    A case made from this stuff would be more expensive than a brand new sports car.

    how is that classic Apple? Just because it requires specific software? Without that software we'd be adding song ratings on the ipod itself which would be a major pain in the ass.

    you can add your own music if want, you dont need to download from the iTunes store, so it's not hard to create your own content, least music wise.

    Speaking of specific software, how many MP3 players have been released requiring Musicmatch? Tons, so apple's not doing anything worse than everyone else.

    as incredibly off topic as this is i'm gonna respond

    It's not uncommon for great men to give their wife some credit. How many times have we seen emmy winners thank their wife for their support and give them credit for where they are today? Same concept. Do you have any further proof besides the co-author credits, maybe notes in her own hand-writing?

    As for the cousin fucker thing remember the time period. People lived much closer to each other then so families grew up all in the same area and you spent a lot more time together. It wasn't uncommon for cousins to marry each other.

    Besides, he was a physics professor, something tells me he didnt hang out at the local bar picking up chicks.

    and remember, he's freakin Einstein, if he wants to fuck a cousin or two go for it! There's a lot worse things going on by people not nearly as famous like Michael Jackson and Catholic Priests.

    speaking of "equator" (did a search and no one else mentioned this) wouldn't the sun be a bit more powerful closer to the equator? Since Syracuse is a bit closer to the equator than Massachusetts I'd image the results in Syracuse might have been a little better, igniting faster or perhaps require fewer mirrors.

    Assuming that it's possible to create a countermeasure to sonic waves that still means all existing torpedos are worthless and all these dictators and tyrants who have been saving torpedos for the last 50+ yrs will have to scrap them all and invest millions in purchasing new torpedos, millions that might have gone towards building a Army or WMDs or feeding hungry kittens.

    So, in effect, we're really hurting them financially more than anything else.

    Then again, torpedos are fired by submarines, something terrorists usually dont have. Navy's have submarines and countries have navy's, but I dont foresee the US fighting any other countries in the near future.

    I mean when was the last time we had a serious navel threat? WWII? 50+ years ago? I think the world has changed since so this seems to be a step in the wrong direction, and with all the navy budget cuts I don't really foresee the Navy building a lot more ships in the future.

    settle down there sparky, so let me get this straight, when given the option to:
    A) Use technology to save the lives of men on ships, along with dumping tons of oil that'll kill marine life for years to come from the ship and the BILLIONS of dollars it costs to replace the ship.
    to...
    B) MAYBE saving whales, with no absolute proof these shockwaves are going to travel hundreds of whatever to injure the whales, not to mention they'll be running along either side of the hull below the waterline , not at the very bottom of the ship mind you, just right below the waterline where torpedos travel, and most whales dont hang out on the surface too often.

    you'd chose option A, killing all the men, spilling all the oil and blowing the billions of dollars to save the whales that MIGHT be killed?

    ummm... does anyone realize this is a GOOD thing?

    Ok a trojan isnt a good thing, but the fact that PSPs have become soooo popular that there's people out there actually writing viruses for it?

    I mean think about it, only the most popular consumer products have viruses. Windows? Tons. Mac? Basically none. Does that mean you can't have a Mac virus? Of course not, just means so few people have Macs that no one's out there bothering to make viruses for them. Cellphones? PocketPCs & other PDAs? Lots of those can access the internet and are user upgradeable, but how many viruses do they have for cellphones or PDAs?

    I think this is just a sign that the PSP has finally arrived!

    hmmmmm... i'd imagine new iTunes software could have a dvd-ripper included, after all they have cd ripping software now. Hope they use the XviD codec... wait, they're Apple, probably rip the DVD and encode it in Quicktime so you can have "100 DVDs in the palm of your hand" if the movies compress as well as they do with DivX, with 2 hour movies fitting on 700 mB CDs, shouldnt have a problem fitting 100 DVDs on 60 gigs.

    wonder how they'll get around encryption without breaking DCMA? They're Apple, they'll find a way.

    this isn't a movie, it's hard enough to shoot a target as large as a man at a distance. This thing is a sony digital camera and microphones weighing 5.5 lbs so I imagine it's pretty damn small. At a distance this would be incredibly difficult to shoot, and even if the sniper did shoot the robot first it's done it's job, alerted them to the presence of a sniper so they can take cover.

    um, considering i hit half the shots in the army at 300 meters with only the rifle's sight i'm pretty sure you're wrong about the effective range.

    Course that's the A2 but that's what the army uses now and has been for many years.

    Not a M16A2's, speaking from first-hand experience. You'd have no problem hearing it at 300 meters... unless maybe u had ur iPod blaring ;)

    all the lanch titles really sucked so if you're still playing them no wonder you're pissed.

    Try Midnight Club 3 or Burnout Legends, both great games. The also have battlefield 2 this fall and a final fantasy game for it next spring. It will get better.

    The NES emulator is pretty cool, and this is the first portable system to have a emulator without any special hardware.

    What really surprises me is we dont see companies offering little mini-games supporting their product for the PSP. This is the first major game system you can easily connect to any PC and download games onto. I'd love to play a Axe body spray get-the-girl type game on PSP.

    Agreed. Here's some reasons:
    --even today, the most modern PC you purchase reads CDs with no problem
    --CDs have been the defacto standard for audio for 20+ years and there's nothing to indicate they'll be replaced in the near future, so as long as we want to listen to audio CDs there will be CD drives
    --CDs drives and media are incredible cheap to produce, insuring no other cheaper standard will come along and knock CDs off their pedestal as being the cheapest around
    --No major audio music manufacture has endorsed any other format as a standard to replace CDs, further indicating they will be around for awhile

    I think CDs are a safe bet. You could have recorded your voice to record almost 100 yrs ago and still have no problem finding a record player to play it on so I'd be willing to bet you have 100+ years left in CDs.

    Besides, there is no format available today that we can be sure that we'll be able to read in 100, 500, or 1000 years. Even the old clay tablets require special "players" (interpreters) to read them. As society progresses we stop using the old and move on with the new, how can you insure we'll still be using engrish in 1000 years? We'll all probably be speaking some form of chinese ;)
