My Intel desktop has the performance of a 90's supercomputer. Strange to think the best technology available to the world's top scientists in the 90’s now sits on my desk
While I agree it is silly, the top 10 supercomputers are not in chronological order. Their commission dates and ranking are listed below. The top 5 newest supercomputers in this list are #1, 3, 4, 8, 9 in PFlops.
But he said if they spent the same amount next year it would be faster, which is true. We don't know the prices of the machines you listed.
Nintendo Switch is already next generation. Wii U was the PS4 and Xbox One. Wii was PS3 and 360. GameCube was PS2 and Xbox. So there is no "saving up", if you have a Nintendo Switch you are already on a next generation console.
The force is utterly destroyed by the annoying SJW robot L3. She (YES, SHE, Lando is not "pansexual" but is clearly attracted to a very female and high strung feminist robot) behaves just as insanely as every other SJW I've ever met, and the entire movie is clearly more about her than about Han Solo.
The movie mocks the annoying SJW robot. When she asked for equal rights Lando even rolled his eyes at her.
I thought kickasstorrents was already gone, their website does not work anymore, and piratebay alternatives seem like junk ad sites. It's nearly impossible to find a good torrent site anymore even for open source software and videos
Nobody replaces the batteries in these cars. A Prius battery is $7500 and by the time you need to replace the battery the car is already ready for a trade in.
Why do people still think hybrid and EV batteries need frequent replacement? This isn't the junk cellphone they bought that won't last a hour after 2 years of use. Prius are frequently used as taxis with 300,000 miles on them. Consumer reports tested a 2003 215,000 mile Prius and found the battery capacity barely diminished. Even if somehow the battery is dead, Toyota MSRP for a replacement battery is $3,600 but there's a $1,300 refund for the old battery so you're really only paying $2,300. That's not bad. https://www.greencarreports.co...
Just wait until electric cars become the slight bit popular, those charging spots will sprout signs saying "FOR EV WITH LESS THAN XX RANGE ONLY" because they will complain their Nissan Leaf only has a 80 mile range so they need to charge more than the 200+ mile Teslas.
I've read of some people buying and returning the same item every month so they never had to actually pay for it since Amazon kept giving them a full refund.
Only one laughing is kickstarter, because they walk away with the money whether investors get the product or not. I don't understand why credit card companies still allow payments to go to kickstarter because they're not buying products, they're buying the hope of a product. Kickstarter really sells mystery bags. Users are told a bag might contain a product they want, they just have to pay full price and they can have whatever is in the bag. If a guy on the street did that you'd laugh, but because it's on the internet you trust it?
The 0-60 time is meaningless when it only has 1 gear. I owned a Model S with insane mode and while the 2 something 0-60 was shocking the highway acceleration was no better than your average sports car. That's because it can't down shift to accelerate faster like a ICE can. I lost many a highway race and you won't find any highway races of teslas on YouTube like you can of nearly every other car. All the Tesla races on YouTube start at either zero or under 30mph where they still have some decent acceleration, but once you get to 60 or 70mph the acceleration isn't there while a ICE sportscar just downshifts to 3rd and takes off.
I suspect Zuckerberg plan for a presidential run pissed off some of the old rich.
Zuckerberg running for president isn't serious. Just because only a few left Facebook does not mean anyone would elect him for president.
All the focus has been on Facebook, when Google, Apple, Amazon, Adobe and even Microsoft collect just as much data and do the same types of analytics.
You must have missed the story yesterday where an iPhone user asked for his 8 years of data collection back and they sent him two dozen excel spreadsheets while everyone else sent hundreds of megabytes worth of data back https://apple.slashdot.org/sto...
Better question would be what data does Google NOT sell. When it comes to advertising there is no bad data, everything someone does can be used to make the perfect ad to entice a purchase.
Just like it would be a PR nightmare to slow down an older phone without asking? Just like it would be a PR nightmare to put a keyboard prone to failure in one of the most expensive laptops available? Yeah, you're right that would be a big mistake. People might create class action lawsuits.
I don't know, nvidia is hit with giant class action lawsuits all the time and everyone still buys every new $800 nvidia gpu as soon as it hits the store shelf. But I was happy to replace my $2,000 dead gpu gaming laptop with the $100 netbook Nvidia offered. Thanks class action lawsuit! https://arstechnica.com/tech-p... https://www.consumeraffairs.co...
Headphone jacks look old now. Over half the headphone inventory at Best Buy are bluetooth. With battery life in days and standby in months (years?) there's really no reason to buy corded headphones.
Agreed. Notches are dumb. I almost wonder if Apple is trolling Android by making a dumb design to see how many Android makers are dumb enough to copy it. I would rather lose the space to the right and left of the notch then to have a ugly notch in the middle. I can't say I would never buy a notched phone but that's my primary reason for not upgrading yet.
We're talking about AI being used to control drones.
It's a slippery slope.
What did you think all this image scanning and facial recognition would be used for someday? Of course it will be used for law enforcement and military purposes. The creation of internet was funded by the US Dept of Defense, so maybe people offended by the US military should stop using the internet too

We are creating a generation of sociopaths, who have inverted their priorities and have no notion of right or wrong.
"We" are? I'm not, who is this "we" you are talking about? They're free to leave google if they wish, but good luck explaining to the next employer why you left and why you won't leave them when one of their clients goes against their "principles" since they seem to be offended by everything. I would love to be in the interview to hear that!
Interviewer: Your resume says you worked at Google most recently, why did you leave them?
Snowflake: I didn't like one of google's clients
Interviewer: ok, what about our clients, do you like them?
Snowflake: oh yes, your clients are fine.
Interviewer: today they might be, but how do I know we won't add a client in the future you dislike and you'll leave us the same way you left google?
Snowflake: uh.... I.... won't?
Interviewer: thank you for coming in today, we'll let you know what we decide
If I could pay a one-time charge, like buying a hard drive, or even a once a decade thing I might be on board. I seriously don't want more monthly costs.
You're right, it's actually horribly overpriced if you do the math. What they should charge for is bandwidth, since the storage is pennies, it's transferring 2tb daily that would rack up some bills. They could charge 99 cents a month for 2tb storage and still make a killing because it's not really 2tb, most people just outgrew 200mb but haven't reached anywhere near 2tb yet.

Someone spending $100,000,000 on a ANYTHING today is going to have a slower machine than someone building one for the same amount in a year's time.
Fixed that for you. You could say the same about anything really, because everything is getting faster, smaller, lighter, etc.

I'd like a wide shot selfie camera, for when I forgot a selfie stick but need to fit everyone in the photo.

Call the police for what? For accepting a return? Stores do not have to accept returns, that was Amazon's choice.

Tesla has officially adopted the Kickstarter model of manufacturing.
But Tesla actually delivers eventually

I doesn't help that Facebook keeps buying every possible alternative. Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat all possible coompetitors, all bought by Facebook.
I suspect Zuckerberg plan for a presidential run pissed off some of the old rich.

Why the fuck is Apple using Excel?
Because Excel was made first for Apple in 1985. Windows didn't get Excel until 1987. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wik...

I've never had a job last longer than two years in the tech industry. Either downsized or bought out or temp to hire contractor positions.
