What is far scarier than all of this is someone from the North Canton School System has the fucking gall to come on/. and somehow, more than once, try to defend this absolutely deplorable practice. For fucks sake, you people must all be idiots, and I can feel some comfort that my children live damn far from Ohio.
I have a cfl in an outdoor fixture that in the summertime ranges from 30-80f and in the wintertime ranges from below 20 to around 30f. I've been using the same bulb for at least 2 years, and it's assuredly a cheap one.
Just one experience and I'm sure I'd better pick up a replacement on the way home...
There is no OS or kernel patch that protects against stupid.
As most of my tech support assistance is for GOOD friends only (I long ago bailed on the frustrating path of coddling stupid users through their self inflicted fuckups), I have to agree that there is absolutely no protection against stupid, and as long as vectors use the path of least resistance, i.e. stupid, then they will win.
The problem, as I see it, is that they will include this service as an add on rather than an "instead of" service.
I think the limiting factor here is just that, that DirecTV is developing this product as an addition to their standard satellite package, rather than as a unique product, and as such are reducing the pool of potential viewers to only their current client base. Netflix is alternate entertainment provider agnostic and given the way DirecTV nickels and dimes you on EVERYTHING, somehow I doubt this will be cheaper than Netflix's offering.
Good luck DTV...
I dropped DirecTV this past week because for $110 less a month I can get every show I watch on netflix, hulu plus and TED.
I wish I was in your position. I need my football and hockey, and I want them in real HD at this point to appreciate them. I so want this DirecTV box out of my house, but as I live in a broadcast TV "white zone" which means I don't get any reception AT ALL, I am shackled to DTV, Dish or god forbid, Comcast if I want to watch the NHL and NFL.
For example: You can't actually disable the WiFi on an iPhone (4 at least), regardless of what the UI says. As you travel around, you are silently connected to any AT&T hotspot within range and your traffic is redirected to that.
I try not to join in the Apple supporting around here, but i remember my 1st gen iPod fondly, and when other people saw and used it, I don't remember them recoiling as if I'd handed them a steaming piece of shit.
I'm sure your zune/rio/whatever is pants. Everybody's got one, remember?
Honestly though, expecting 40 year old plants to be as safe as one built today is like expecting your 1969 Camaro to have onstar and that there should be an iPhone app to remotely unlock and start it.
Comparing 60's nuclear technology to 21st century nuclear technology is inherently unfair.
I only tried the printer sharing portion with one printer, and a non-standard type printer at that (one of the Epson 4x6 sized photo printers) and it did not work well. This was say 4 years ago though, so things might have improved.
As my real printer is on ethernet, I cannot speak to how other printers may or may not work with the Airport Express. I always thought it was lame they didn't include the usb hard drive sharing, ala the Airport Extreme, as I would have used that feature.
Either way they rule for streaming music around the house.
This kind of snark is exactly why Apple legal will be conversing with this fellow shortly. It's too bad really, airplay should be incorporated into every device both as a "pitcher and a catcher", regardless of the typical end use of the device.
The airport express is 99 bucks I believe. If my stupid work firewall didn't block the "apple everything" then I could look and see. I know I've seen them for $89 and $79 at times...
Throw 3 or 4 around your house, they're awesome just for the airplay aspect, regardless of the other features (router, printer sharing).
Is there a technical reason that current iPhones cannot use 1700mHz, or could a software/firmware update change the landscape of iPhone data reception?
[ I do think that automatically upgrading the plan to a tethering one is a particularly poor remedy. If I were AT&T, I would cut off the data and give the subscriber a call to explain the terms of their data agreement and that they are in breach of those terms. This is a matter of good customer service, that's all. ]
This would be great for the customer, but when has AT$T made a move that has been good for their customers (like, how about putting up another tower near my house?!). Charging a pile of customers 45 extra bucks for even one month is AWESOME for the company. Easy choice...
Apparently you haven't driven any of the VW TDI's since the 99's came out. They're far from stinky, underpowered or, dare I say, even hip. They're just efficient, surprisingly powerful (people talk horsepower but really drive torque) and reliable vehicles.
They're also highly tunable so if you want it to go fast, it's simply a matter of opening up your wallet and deciding how fast you want to go. Trust me.
Come on, at 40-50 MPG, that extra 2% in fuel cost has to be offset and exceeded by the mileage you're getting. Think as if you were driving a 2000 Dodge Ram getting 12MPG. That $0.20 seems like a drop in the bucket when you're blowing through fuel.
Right. I mostly ignored the obnoxious child and didn't buy into her attempt to bait me into confronting her on her level, and I didn't push her over as we got off the chairlift, as tempting as that would have been in hindsight.
So we're living Hell on earth?
There'll always be "other" no matter how many codes the ICD contains.
That's called an umbrella policy.

Sweet! You live where it's too hot and people steal things from your yard. Sign me up! JK...

Stupid trumps all. Just watch some TV.
Bump for the ladyboy guy?
He must still be asleep this is pure fodder for him!

Are you fucking shitting me mod? Troll? Somebody get that mod's IP address.

Fuck caps. Same reason I'm still with AT&T for the iPhone...have had that unlimited data plan since day 1 and won't give it up.

You can't explain that to these people
This is NOT offtopic. My post may be redundant but some mod needs to fix this.

Love to see the citation on this one. It'd be news to me.
