It is in the same vein as handing civics books to victims of a dictatorship and asking them to act like democrats. Some folks just don't look at the big picture.
"In today's world, some 774 million adults lack minimum literacy skills; one in five adults is still not literate and two-thirds of them are women; 72.1 million children are out of school and many more attend irregularly or drop out; and literate environments with access to reading material and suitable publications are lacking, with the result that neo-literates cannot sustain their skills." - Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, September 2007
Some governments past and present use literacy as a weapon to keep the subjects in line with their vision. Some religious groups feel that women should not be educated or not beyond a certain point. Also, class plays a role in access to education in some societies. This problem is more than just basic access. It has to do with some grand design elements in certain locales.
Unfortunately, you read into what I am saying here. I am not being critical of the project. I am merely stating a fact that it is a shame that there is so much money that is being spent to try to handle internet thugs.
No, not shortsighted, just realistic. The fact remains that enormous amounts of money is spent to thwart these attackers and most of them don't get paid $4.4 million to hack.
I wanted to cloak and go sneak into a movie.. but I have been looking for the dang thing for hours. Can't remember where I left it. Didn't match my shoes anyway. Can I get a faux fur one?
"Every network is at risk," he said. "That's what this flaw has shown."
I beg to differ. My NETBIOS 10-base-5 home network is running just fine without DNS. It is a little slow though for 1000 nodes. Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed it up?
Rule of thumb: You don't need an antiquated collision domain to run head first into current knowledge.
This is remminiscent of the times when my boss would read up on new technologies on the airplane. Then my Q&A with him would increase 1000% for the days after. To which I would have to tell him why we can't use SONET for the LAN. Yes, I did use PowerPoint at times and that still didn't work.
Programmers are no different than any other profession. Why do small companies exist and how to they find talent to push them up the food chain? Some folks do not care to plug into the large company mentality. Large projects ran by enterprise minded project managers can be stifling. Small companies allow you to be a critical asset and not just an amoeba swimming in the larger developer pool.
I thought that MIT students would want to demonstrate a little more class. War dialing/driving has been around forever. The concept is old school. I am sorry but I feel that there must be projects from MIT students that are more/. worthy that this. I would rather see some medical innovation or manufacturing robotics/theory write up.
What is the true return of investment on a degree from one of these institutions? If there is some real market value and respect for the credential, I may consider. Now that I can go to school naked on camera.. I am really considering it.
You take an extremely intelligent(genius level eccentric?) and over work them. Their work ethic is an issue in and of itself as they take ownership and pride to a fault. You combine that with maybe some social skill deficit and a bad temper. What you get is a time-bomb in any respect. You add in that his management created a catalyst with the lack of competent support to bleed off some of the stress and BOOM !
I think the city should take some of the blame. Their audit and procedures were also to blame for this breach of continuity. There are a lot of situations in government where the entire chain of command would be canned, especially in the military.
"According to the Drizzle FAQ, the database will be licensed under the GPLv2 and be available on Linux and OS X platforms. Aker stated that he is unwilling to support platforms without a proper GNU toolchain, such as Windows."
Get on board MS! Why would anyone in their right mind set up a Web/SQL platform using MS products?
Well, I am not sure that housewives can't be geeks. Maybe they confuse geeks that are buying XP with idiots? I wouldn't think that a true 'geek' would give a rat's buttocks about what OS came on the hardware. I put what I want on there when I get home.
"An attacker with the ability to conduct a successful cache poisoning
attack can cause a nameserver's clients to contact the incorrect, and
possibly malicious, hosts for particular services. Consequently, web
traffic, email, and other important network data can be redirected to
systems under the attacker's control."
Too bad the fix doesn't 'Cure' the problem. It only makes it more difficult.
"ISC is providing patches for BIND 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5" - Thank the Internet gods.
That applies to everything. Look at how many people pay top dollar for a better product. Mercedes sells a lot of those C(heap) class models to people who want the better quality vehicle. I figure it is just like corrective optical surgery. Do you want the cheap guy to perform that procedure? I am so glad no one has come by and tried to force me to buy an Apple yet, I can still buy them by choice.
One major issue is that even between gun owners, there is no unity. It takes a well organized militia to stand against tyranny. The common citizen, gun owning or not, does not have a vehicle for unity. Therefore, I expect that if we have to exercise our worst fears, it will be against each other in the street and not as a unit against tyranny. Oh, and by the way, I own A LOT of guns.
So when you are nodding off late at night, what happens? Does the volume go up and down? That could create an infinite loop. I bet if my neighbor's wife looked at the TV it would change the channel to the Sci-fi network.
Order -> chaos /. -> #$%&*

We have had these running around here for years. We just called them MBA's.

$4.4 million for a system to detect what one person getting paid nothing will circumvent within days/hours/minutes of implementation.

All that and a free dozen eggs every 10 secs. What will they think of next?
I don't care what shape poop is in as long as I can flush it.

I need different perspectives, so both please.
I would like to see the increase in packets over tiume correlated to the increase in pr0n sites on a graph.
