  1. I think EDRs are a good idea on Black Box in Speeder's Car Helped Conviction · · Score: 1

There is a reason for crash investigations. That is to improve safety. An EDR that records relevent information up to five seconds prior to a crash is a good thing. More information leads to better analysis of what happened.

However, I don't think this information should be allowed to be used as a "tattle tail" in other situations. The information should ONLY be useable in a crash investigation.

Although still beta, Apple's Safari browser deserves some mention as something other than etc.

Safari may not have the best features from Mozilla and Konqueror yet, but it is doing pretty well. I am using it on Mac OS X in preference to the bundled IE or Mozilla which is also available. If nothing else, it does have a performance advantage.

You are assuming that the encryption algorithm is perfect and will never be broken, therefor requiring a brute force attack. The only such algorithm in existance is the one time keypad which is of course impractical for use on any real scale.

Should RSA ever be broken, it is possible that the key size will become a moot issue.

However, RSA has been out for quite sometime now. If it has been broken, that information is very well guarded.

a good solution would be to remove those who sponser such bills from office. also remove those people who vote for them.

i emphaticly agree. it is not necessary to appeal to a devine authority either. it is quite clear that lying and stealing are the wrong thing to do. i present this as self evident.

that's just my two centidollars. when i get around to setting up a wireless access point, i will lock it down with at least wep and most likely mac as well. my DSL connection is not nearly as swift as that guy's broadband connection.

although you borrowed the bandwidth resource briefly, i would liken the general practice to using smtp servers that have not been properly configured (open-relay). you are using a resource that costs money and you didn't pay for. then again, you may not have cost the guy a full nickel. i think this is something of a grey area ethicly. i would avoid the practice.

before i read the article, i thought sun was actually trying to come out with a new desktop. i was thinking, "didn't apple already do that?"

the big problem i see with this system, as cool as it may be, is that desktop computers are really cheap now. the appropriate software will allow centralized administration. it may not work quite as well as on big piece of iron with lots of terminals. but i expect it will generate far less network traffic.

it's stupid patents like this that keep the uspto swamped. perhaps the patent office should adopt the policy that if they are busy or don't understand the meaning of any of the claims, they just stamp 'denied' on the patent application and move on.
