Unfortunately this radio land mine thing will never pick up. First it will cost more and second they will be detected easier.
It will be simpler for armies to just deploy oldfashioned barbaric mines instead of modern "smart" and "civilized" mines that can be detected with a laptop and Kismet.
Did I understand right or did evolution equip us with anti-lightning-mechanisms. Since skin creates "flashover" does this mean our ancestors got hit by lightning often? Do other animals have it?
Here is from wiki:
"In a direct hit the electrical charge strikes the victim first. Counter intuitively, if the victim's skin resistance is high enough, much of the current will flash around the skin or clothing to the ground, resulting in a surprisingly benign outcome. Splash hits occur when lightning prefers a victim (with lower resistance) over a nearby object that has more resistance, and strikes the victim en route to ground. Ground strikes, in which the bolt lands near the victim and is conducted through the victim via his or her connection to the ground (such as through the feet, due to the voltage gradient in the earth, as discussed above), can cause great damage." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning
Damn interesting...skin resistance..who would have thought of it...
They _are_ trying to boot PDF, but its such a lost cause that they will eventualy give up (like with other things). Most companies/organisations use PDF exclusively, I don't see how it pays for MS to go into this whole war, isn't it cheaper to just pay Adobe a licence fee?
Am I understanding it right, that they need to pay it to use PDF?
It is very simple. Follow what Microsoft is embracing, and all signs are they are going with C#. C# looks like the best bet down the road as MS might anytime pull the plug on VB. Also C# is kinda liked by non MS ppl too.
Just like with games this technology will only pick up if the "graphics" are good and if there are enough "books" for it. The biggest difference between a book and a screen is eye strain (The BBC article says the screen is not backlit...big difference?), I wonder if Sony has tested this with hard core readers.
I would use it I think. I wonder how you can mark pages (since I tend to twist the edges of book pages).
Is it true that backlit screens cause less eye strain? I want one of these...
Exactly. Nuclear power is not what it used to be in the 70s and 80s. The reactors are quite safe nowadays, especialy the N-type (which the Chinese are also developing). I am for safeguarding the environment but we have to be rational about this, nuclear is efficient and cleaner.
Nuclear power has been "labeled" as evil and dangerous but other energy sources, such as coal, tend to cause a lot more damage which is difficult to measure. For example, coal mining alone, is the cause of lung illnesses and lung cancer among people who are exposed to the dust. But when burned (and if the mining is not done properly) this same dust spreads among a larger popullation. I come from a country where the main source of energy is coal. Not only is it insufficient for our energy needs but it also causes unimaginable polution.
Totaly opposite with nuclear, where the reaction environment is contained, unless human error causes meltdown (such as in Chernobyl or the Three Mile Island).
MS sure likes to spend its money where its worth. I can see it now "Hackers exploit newly discovered flaw in SrvSoundScape service on Windows Vista to take over the world"
Sorry to burst your bubble but Macedonians and Albanians are getting along quite well. Rading villages, bomb cities etc, dunno where you heard that since it never happened.
Its worthless talking politics with brainwashed individuals.
P.S. Albanians are not only muslim, also Catholoc, Orthodox Christian and Jewish, something you might never understand.
Yikes, this changes quite a few things. I wonder how much our computer models are wrong since supernova are what keeps the universe alive.
Were we wrong all this time?:)
bjtuna I understand its not a "cell phone" version, but eventualy all communications will be done through the standard internet protocol (IP based) be it voice, data, or video. But I think the push for this "switch" can only be done by the users. 3G just came out here where I live and its doing very slow, primarily because the units are not what we're used to for "internet use" and the price. WiMAX I hope will solve this because the only real strengh of WiMAX will be not allowing you to connect to the internet through your laptop from the park but from your device which is easy to use (like phone? this would be majority of WiMAX users I think). I would be very happy to dump my cell phone for a Skype enabled phone/comm device. WiMAX seems like the way to go.
I just can't see how a life without 24/7 connectivity over your PDA/phone/device will be acceptable. Wireless is the way to go.
I will not upgrade my phone till I can connect through it to the net, at any point, at any time, at a good speed (for simple messaging). I will ave to wait quite a few years I guess:)
Drugs like this end up messing up more than helping. A drug that can alter your normal biological functions (tiredness) and turn you more active cannot have good effects. You need sleep, simple as that. Maybe work should become more efficient instead of keeping people awake (or monkeys).
Nanotech promise for robotics is great. Imagine being able to built synthetic muscules out of nanotubes, that can contract, expand, it would be just like in Ghost in The Shell:)
Google is being smart, developing for something like, let's say our planet, is very useful:)
Let's just hope that someday they don't become the "bad" guys.

Even MS workers get hit by viruses...need to patch those poor souls.

The answer = bad movies

Linus should comment on this personaly, till that happens its just FUD.

Do people even notice ads anymore? I've become imune to them...(wish that was the case with SPAM).
