  1. What about his most important work?? on Tales From The Perilous Realm · · Score: 2, Interesting

Less we forget Tolkiens translation of the Pearl Poet's, 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'? That poem kicks ass (atleast as far as a poem can kick one's ass, that is)!

  2. He is your personal jesus christ on Tales From The Perilous Realm · · Score: 2, Funny

Think of a Jesus Christ figure prancing through the woods with golden curls who defeats his enemies through song... then you have Tom Bombadill. Truly, a king among middle earth men. :D

  3. Truly a life defining moment... on NASA Launching Two Mars Rovers in June · · Score: 5, Insightful

A previous generation had the Apollo moon landing as a life defining moment, for me it was the Mars rover. I distinctly remember being glued to the life tv broadcast, watching the first images of mars being beamed back to earth, in full colour, high-res, 360 degree glory. Is there anything else that has come closer to bring humanity closer together than the wonder of space exploration? I don't think so. I hope for success for all the landers and probes. We need them to succeed if we are to achieve the next stage of humanity. You know, the Startrek stage. ;)

After reading recent stories here on /. about Chinese interests in building a moon base and extracting resources, I wonder what are Europe's space program's primary goals? Are they interested mostly in hard science stuff? Or are they creating and building up an entirely new kind of space industry? Perhaps what I really want to know is, when do the orbiting space hotels go up? :)

  9. Palms are rather useless when compared to a laptop on What Kind Of Computer To Bring To College? · · Score: 4, Insightful

IMO don't go for a Palm or any other expensive pda. You may thing that you will make good use out of it but you would be better suited to put that money into getting a laptop. Two years ago when I was still in uni I bought myself a Handspring VISOR and thought it would work wonders with my organisational skills. Truthfully it did help alot with keeping track of contacts and to plan my life.... but in all honestly I could have accomplished the same feat with a $5 paper organiser. My point is that if money is tight....spend it on something that will be TRULY useful such as an Apple iBook or some other laptop computer. You can still store your contacts and use calender programs on a laptop PLUS you can play better games than tetris on a tiny 3in screen. Laptops give you more features and will out last any PDA on an order of magnitudes longer. I have a laptop now, but I really wish I had one back then instead of a VISOR (as cool as it was) ;) So go for the Apple iBook!

All you will need is money....lots and lots of money. So a mere mortal such as myself will probably not get to go to space, the mega rich will. In the next 20 years we should have atleast one space hotel, or I will be VERY disapointed! So I may not make it, but you can be Cher will!

Yes people die. 32000 people die from preventable diseases every day. However, advances in space exploration is an imparative not an option. The ability to colonise the moon, mars, and space, mine comets, and extract resources is what is going to keep the human race around for thousands of years to come. So no, the comet cannot wait.
