    to go into Comp Sci / IT. There are just far too many people out of work already, with the jobless rate in IT running at about 20%. You don't need to spend 3 to 4 years studying to flip burgers.

    Yes it is not only practical, the devices already exist. Do some Googling for Deep Packet Scanning. One company that make things like this is Fortinet.

    Yup, you are the only one with a clue here. Spam can be removed by deep scanning routers. If the backbones won't carry it, then spam will necessarily stop.

    Unfortunately, there is the problem of harmonics. It is explained by the Fourier transform. Signaling at a certain carrier frequency can have substantial impact at frequencies 5 to 7 times higher.

    I would think that this can work in Europe, where most electricity is carried in underground cables.

    When I first visited North America, the third world standard ungodly cable mess strung next to all the roads was quite unexpected to me.

    I find it hard to fathom how the power companies could even have considered using BPL in overhead lines - plain schtoopidttt...

    Hmmm, you should not try to chase an 18 wheeler with a car made in the last 20 years. They are all limited to about 160km/h, while the 18 wheelers can go >200km/h.

    The 1970s Golfs were the fastest ever and could go > 230km/h, but the manufacturers stopped the insanity in the mid 1980s.

    More likely, this was a case of 'wrong pedal syndrome' where she had her foot on the accellerator instead of the brake and pressed that to the floor - but damned if she'll ever admit to that...

    Actually, flying cluster balloons is a popular sport and you don't need an air gun to pop them - you just haul the line of a balloon in by hand and deflate it.

    Some Googling will quickly find nice pictures of cluster balloons and yes, they do use lawn chairs...

    Unix upgrades have been centrally managed since some time before the dinosaurs, using tools like rsync and NFS shares.

    Nowadays, with RPM and DEB package managers, you also have the option to put all packages on a central FTP server and then schedule an update using the native update utility eg. apt, rpm or urpmi.

    So, my reaction to anyone claiming that there is 'no support' for Unix, or that Unix is 'hard to manage' or that Unix 'doesn't have enterprise tools'. Is one of incredulity - like where have you been the past 500 years, man??? Sleeping???

    Animation is even cheaper. Now you only have to pay some geeks pizza and coke to make a movie. Eventually, animation will be so realistic, that warm blood actors and actresses will be obsolete.

    Russia never has any money. Somehow, they don't need money to get things done.

    However, Russia is paying off its loans at a rate in excess of about 10 Billion Dollars per year, while the US is getting deeper in debt at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars each year.

    Something is wrong with this picture.

    The US always lags the technology curve by several years. Linux is far more popular in Europe than in the US.
