Wow. I've never seen anyone but M$ sink this low to do marketing.
But hey, they had it coming. Everyone else has tried everything else, and it seems logic and reasoning (Not to mention superiority) won't get in M$'s way. The only thing left to do is attack 'em with their own guns, I say.
Too bad this means rebuttal and counterrebuttles galore until both products are released (And for a few months afterward, even). How many/. articles are gonna be taken up with this back-and-forth battle?
Well, myself being the Monopoly freak I am, I've gotta comment that it really ain't Monopoly... else I woulda won way more rounds with hotels on Baltic and Mediterranean Avenues. ($1300 and $1200? Maybe not)
But, hey, that's one hell of a hilarious site. Now it's giving me ideas for a new Monopoly board...:-)
Wow... so this means the days when my dad had to take power tools to our PB case to install a new hard drive are now distant memories? And those silly "Modem-and-Soundcard in one" cards?
And to think... My Linux machine is running on what used to be a Packard Bell...
Man, I should go and sue someone... I think the floppy on my desktop computer's a Toshiba, and I usually get BSoWOs (Blue Screen of Write Error.... not quite so lethal as BSoDs, but irritating) when I write to it.
It's so easy to sue someone nowadays. Maybe there'll be a checkbox on the 1040 forms with "Lawsuits" as primary source of income...
I'm still having quite the hard time figuring out how you can patent something you never created in the first place... I mean, can I just walk outside, study trees for a few years, and claim patent to them?
"Why, hello, there, my friendly Microsoft representative. Here, in my hand, is a pirated copy of your fine operating system. I have installed it on my system, cheating you out of your oh-so-honestly earned money. I have seen your nice sign sitting here, and I wish to get a full version of your ever-stable operating system for (these disks || this CD) which I can easily copy again to make more copies. I will assume the nearby police officer is just an off-duty bystander."
So, in addition to my silly Win95 system (I've got a Linux box next to it, give me some time) locking up at random intervals when my internet connection is idle, I'll ALSO have to download ads and pay more?
Gee... I wonder what a busy signal on a cable modem sounds like...:-)
1) Face it, Descent is a nerd-oriented game. And Linux is QUITE nerdworthy. Slashdot, last time I read the tagline, is News For Nerds. Thus, we hear about Descent 3 on Linux. 'Nuff said.
2) Strange, I've played the Descent series on my mouse and a bunch of keys only I can identify, and I can do pretty good. I picked up a joystick to try D3 with it, and I couldn't get the hang of it at all... ---
Now, I know this is SlashDot, the epitome of Linux users and Evilsoft hatred (I'm only one half of that... so far), so I'm betting there's very few other Windoze users on here who read all this , but I just gotta ask this:
Are there any other Windoze users out there who are stalling their transition to Linux SOLELY because of the games they play?
I mean, if Team17 makes a Linux version of Worms: Armageddon, that and D3 will be it for me. Give me a C++ compiler and I'll try to continue learning C++ on Linux... ---
Um... it wasn't Best Brain's idea to cash in their chips and go out now. It was some guy over at Sci-Fi who pulled the plug.
It's all rather sad, that's about the only show I ever watch on Sci-Fi. I wonder what they'll fill the gap with? Lord knows we haven't seen "Child's Play" enough... ---
I think the purpose of calling Billy to do your tech support is to pester him. Of course.
Running With Scissors, I think, is the best of Al's albums. "Germs" is the only song I really don't like, though the chorus ain't half bad. "It's All About The Pentiums" and "Your Horoscope for Today" are the best on that album, I say.
Now, to get a better connection to my house so the RealPlayer link doesn't look like crap... ---
I've always believed that, in most cases, the best upgrades should not be able to be noticed on the surface (Unless it's some rather largish new feature). That said, nice job, I didn't notice too much out of the ordinary.

I figured, if I ever made anything patent-worthy, why not apply for a patent for it, but never challenge anyone who uses it?
But this kinda makes more sense. I like it, myself.

That typically leads to third-, fourth-, and fifth-guessing. Man, that takes me back a while... it's been a while since I've seen some of that.
And I'm thankful for that. Don't feed the trolls.
