  3. Re:bobby fischer on The Expert Mind · · Score: 1

Fischer made himself into a prodigy. Prodigies, like Capablanca and Reshevsky, display an innate ability at an early age, with little or no instruction. On the otherhand, Fischer was lousy at chess chess when he first started. He became an expert by studying obsessively, especially after his mother left to be an activist in various parts of the country and world. He had no friends, he had little home life. He, instead, taught himself to be one of the greatest minds of chess the world has ever seen.

Are there any myths you would love to test/bust/confirm but it is not possible to prove/disprove it? For example, have you pondered the myth that NASA filmed the landings on the moon in a studio?

  5. Stop Releasing Patches on Slow Down the Security Patch Cycle? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Clearly, if it is better to slow down the release of patches, it would be best to NEVER release a patch. That way, there is nothing to "reverse-engineer" and there is no way the "exploiters" will have nothing to work with. Better yet, don't even release the software in the first place, and no exploit will ever be found, even for the less lazy, more sophisticated exploiters who find bugs in the original code!!!

My older son, now 8, learned how to read by playing Pokemon. Over time he began to learn what letter combinations were (from my telling him over and over) like Potion, Water Gun, Poke Ball, etc. and it started to click. He was 3 and was getting no other instruction w.r.t. reading at the time.

I'm no lawyer, nor wish to be associated with them when the Great Retribution comes, but it would seem to me that IBM has the right to subpoena the code during the disclosure phase of case. As far as I know, suboenas would be free of any NDA obligation. Anyone know any better?
