  1. Music/literature influence: on Interview: Ask Alan Cox · · Score: 3

If you were stranded on a desert island, what ten albums and ten books would you want with you?

  2. Why? on Interview: the "Punk Hacker Kid" Responds · · Score: 1

I actually feel guilty after reading that crap. What a shameless waste of electrons.

    What happened here?

Who here actually watches (or cares about)MTV?

Why all the hype over this chump?

Was this done intentionally to mock this poor sucker?

I don't get it. It seems so random...

These guys make the most stylish and functional briefcases in the world. Waterproof and made of aluminum. I have seen anodized aluminum from them in bright colors like lime, fly yellow, and cobalt blue. These a briefcases for the fasionable geek. http://rootintl.com/halliburton/

They make laptop cases, camera cases, briefcases, cigar humidors, and many other functional and useful cases.

Anyone ever read "Divine Proportion" by H.E. Huntley?

It is on my shelf next to EGB. It is a study of mathematical beauty. I only mention it because these are two of my favorites.

  8. Hypocrisy on Why Kids Kill · · Score: 1

Mr. Clinton was in Virginia at a public school yesterday. He said: "We should strive to resolve conflict without violence." Hmmmm.... Balkans? Iraq? Panama? Granada? El Salvador? Honduras? Nicuragua? Angola? Vietnam? Korea? The list goes on. I do not want to place blame for the events in Colorado on the Executive Office, but in a time when the capitol of "the greatest nation on earth" is also the murder capitol of the world governed by a crack smoking mayor (well, not any more), while in a time of continued international conflict we turn and look at an isolated violent episode and say "shame". I am not surprised by what happened. We are headed into a time of greater turmoil. New York city was boasting that it would have "less than 2000" murders by year end and they were pleased!!! There are cities around the world that have less violence by population than cities in the US. I am thinking about moving to Iceland.

  9. They forgot to sue some others... on Doom Causes Kid to Kill · · Score: 1

How about the manufacturer of the weapon and ammunition that he used? Why not sue Warner Brothers for their Looney Toons? Lord know those are ridden with violence. Why not sue CNN for its coverage of the Gulf War and O.J. Simpson trial(and other violence that it displays)?

This is a load of crap, and a continuance of the absurd three ring circus that our judicial system has become.

The one person responsible for these crimes is behind bars.

  18. True geek cinema: Wax on "Rushmore" and The Rise Of Geek Cinema · · Score: 1

The film "Wax: The Discovery of Television Among the Bees" is one of the best examples of "geek-cinema" that I have ever seen. If you have not seen it, rent it soon. It is the story of a programmer for the defense department that is contacted by the spirits of the "future dead" that were killed by his work. They communicate to him through the bees that he keeps. He travels through space and time with their aid. They show him the language of Babylon (code), God (a television broadcast), Heaven (OOP), the limits of the universe, the meaning of his life, and his fate after death.

I saw many in this thread mention "Pi". I saw that, and saw many similarities between it and "Wax". Notably the relationship between mathematics and language. If you liked this film, Wax goes to another level of surrealism.

I will read Katz's book. I will also continue to read and post to the discussions at Slashdot even though I need to wade through heaps of venomous bile from the immature. It is a shame that respect not be paid to an author and an artist, as well to the people that bring this wonderful forum to life. I will only have to assume that many of the "A.C.s", though they claim to be technophiles, must be illiterate. I guess now I am guilty of flame... but I feel justified.
