I'd suggest you use commodity FPGA solutions and load up a system on chip coupled with external DDR3 ram and external GPU for heavy lifting. I wrote a database to handle chaos storage around 1995. It was written in TAS+ with btrieve as the database. The person storing the stuff would hand enter the location plus checksum and the item code plus checksum as small handheld barcode scanners that would connect wirelessly were too expensive. The software would verify a valid location and item number were entered using the checksum. The database did more than that but it was DOS based and worked well. I quit the company and got a call begging me to go fix it two years after I left. The cheap ass wouldn't pay for half of my new car.;)

Then those would break again and we'd have to call again. Then it started interfering with some kinds of IP traffic, "Oh we started closing those by default." with the same crap. Then it did something to the printers company wide, network printers. I was done with that and told my boss that I could not work with that crap on my PC. Calls were made and it was removed. I now run MSE and also a junk PC that strips off email attachment spew and web junk from anyone. If they can't send text screw them. I put up an autoresponse on the proxy to send an "Don't send attachments of pictures to this address, text only". So far it's worked. If they need to send something that's what the company secure FTP server is for and what we're paying good money for Barracuda to protect since they're incompetent at filtering crap from email.
But treat them off the phone. Once you've given your explanation don't give them anymore of your time but that you have paying customers to take care of. If they continue to harass, block their phone with the "We're sorry buy you will need to use our email services for further contacts. "
Then post all the emails and giggle at them the way slashdot does anyone emailing them, that will show them.
It is possible to remove and replace a BGA but it's not trivial. I'm sure an enterprising hobbyist will figure it out and figure out that there are BGA sockets and figure out how to heat sink them.

I bought a screaming quad system 2007 and had it die in a fireball in 2010, so to upgrade it I needed a motherboard, processor and ram. For the same price as the three year old I doubled my ram and processor capacity and added so much more capability I was boggled. It was $5 cheaper than the three year old. I'm now looking at dumping everything in this PC and getting an something else which if I'm looking at the sales places right will cost less and quadruple my processing power.
