The first glass window maker should sue Microsoft. I wonder what would happen if MS Windows had to drop the Windows. It would result in mass chaos, because people are already used to calling it Windows. Better left the way it is. Anyway, someone should post a article: "ASK SLASHDOT: New name for Lindows?"
but that's no reason to make it worse for the millions of people who are forced to use Microsoft products
What would be a better way to get the attention of people that think "MS Windows is great! NO viruses and attacks ever!" than having a huge attack on Microsoft computers? Microsoft would be then forced to check every code fully to avoid another attack. And the users would loose confidence in them. I think that not notifing Microsoft was a good idea.
We've all gotten frustrated at some point with spam. I am mostly frustrated when I get the email from my friends into junk and the junk into my Inbox. Hotmail liked to do that some time ago...
The only time I was frustrated with spam was when I was getting several hundred copies of the Swan worm every day. Not only I had to delete it all, but also just 10 of them took up most of my space.
They should have reseted the counter on the sidebar on their site before posting. It would be quite interesting to see how many people came there from slashdot. I guess about 99% percent from the current count...
I don't believe it was their plan to cut the search results on google.com. I typed "Windows" into msn and google search, and here are the results:
MSN Results 1-15 of about 2373 containing "windows"
GOOGLE Results 1 - 10 of about 13,300,000. Search took 0.24 seconds.
From this I can only guess that it's their search engine and how they get their results that sucks. And they want google to learn (Not sure, but I think it is public anyway) how to be better. Or something like that.
Debian might even replace the free RedHat Linux as a good starter for newbies. I mean they even now got a easy installation (graphical one won't be bad), easy way to install packages with dselect, and I am sure there exist tool that will check for newest updates with dselect and notify the user.
This might be off topic, but I've been thinking about it for some time. I don't think Microsoft would want Linux become commercial. Let's see what would happen then: 1) Linux would have money to pay full-time workers. 2) The Linux Desktop would become simpler for the average user. 3) There would be more money for commercials. 4) Linux would get known and because it's more stable it would become more popular. 5) Microsoft would lose a lot of market share and money
That is just the basic idea. Of course my thoughts would look better on a "Cause and Effect" chart, but since I have 4 minutes left, I don't have time.
you have to download a third-party browser What are you talking about, it came preinstalled with my OS...
I don't like the sound "XP service pack"...

All right, XP is getting pop-up blocking! But wait, I am using Win2k... As much as I hate Microsoft I would like them to put out a Win2k version, and a version for other Windowses wouldn't be bad.
And then a stable operating system...
GO China GO
It will if he is running the site on the calculator.
I think you got the wrong story. Saddam's is above this...

The look of slashdot has barely changed since the late 90's
The lightbulb hasn't changed for longer than that... And look, people still like it.
Like in the movie Flubber?
Gravity for the balls and Chaos for the state of their computer.
I always thought NO means Nitrogen Oxide...
R2D2 was created to fix ship, so all he needed was beeping. C3PO was created as a translator. We might as well ask why can't C3PO fix ships.
