  1. Gay Marriage! on Internet Censorship in Australia? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Like how the religious right is trying to amend the Oregon constitution (and other states') to outlaw gay marriage.

They just *love* to take our rights away according to what they *think* read in the bible.

  4. President? on Ask Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb · · Score: 1

Why doesn't the green party run for more and more competitevely for senate/house seats?

It would seem to be more prudent to try to build the party up before running for president. Once people are better acquianted with the party and what it stands for and how it gets the job done, then maybe you'll have a better shot at the presidency.

Right now, however, the few % points the green party gets seems to be more of a political statement than any actual attempt at change. Just a bigger soapbox.

My favorite things he does is to rewrite environmental reports, giving the opposite conclusion on pollution in the environment - the latest is that mercury pollution is GOOD for you.

  12. Regulations... on Companies, Government and Community Fiber Rollouts · · Score: 1

As a libertarian, I am strongly against any governmental intervention - we need to keep them out of the private sectors!

This project is a response to all of the extreme amounts of legislation and laws that dictate what the telco/isp's can do. They really need to eliminate all of the regulations involved and allow a complete free-for-all competition for communications - that will give people ("consumers") the best choices and the best prices.

On the flip side of things, I think it is wrong for a governmental entity to intervene in the market and try to compete against business - we all know how inefficient government is, and does not provide any benefit to its community. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is detrimental to the development of proper telecommunications/ISP businesses in its community!

It is unfortunate that the citizens of these communities had to resort to this to try to get good internet access. Just goes to show how corrupt the entire system is.

aah, but you forgot - the people who will die because of global warming will be those living in poorer nations.

Thus, if someone in Africa dies who is making $1/day, then it only costs $365 to lose them.

Thus, even if 1 million people die - its only $365 million worth, less than what the State of Oregon spends on road construction each year.

The richer nations can put together contingency plans to help offset those problems, but if they lose people - I believe the new number GWBush introduced for risk management for people is around $400,000 per US citizen (down from $4 million before)

Back in the 1700's, the "state" as an entity we recognize today was still in its infancy!

In addition, the notion that "The US did not receive any aid" is complete BS. The US received military help from France during the Revolutionary War - in the form of a very large Navy that sent the Brits scrambling from our shores. As for hunanitarian aid - well, that hadn't been invented yet. Most of Europeans were still living as peasants, slopping mud in pig troughs and dying of plagues.

Maybe we should talk about the root of it all - decision-making, desire and love.
Maybe we should just consciously decide to outlaw these - oops! That's a decision.
Deciding you want to fuck a M vs. a F is nothing more than a choice. Based on desire, of course, but that is completely a human URGE, which is based on genetics and experience.
