  1. Re:I wouldn't expect a landing on Cassini Alters Path. Phoebe Now In Sight! · · Score: 1

Yes it is a risky endeavour, but we must try, and really, it's not a moment too soon! Perhaps in the future we can go there ourselves, with balloons, rovers, even amfibian vehicles. In a somewhat distant future...

  2. wonderful on Cassini Alters Path. Phoebe Now In Sight! · · Score: 3, Interesting

Can't believe how much I'm looking forward to this. It's going to be exciting to learn more about the rings (especially the F-rings perhaps), Saturn itself and then the landing on Titan. It's a good thing there are so many mysteries out there, or the world would be a bit boring.

  3. Re:Its amazing. on Cassini Alters Path. Phoebe Now In Sight! · · Score: 4, Interesting

Amazing indeed, but they can do even better. Just look at the Voyager spacecrafts, they've been out there since the 70's and the reason they will be shut down within a few years is because they're running out of power, rather than hardware failure or something. Now imagine a much faster spaceprobe with an actual reactor onboard. Could last for a century or more? This is why I think the Prometeus and the JIMO projects are great.

I've seen it in my own telescope. It's quite a sight that I can recommend to anyone. Pictures from spaceprobes and Hubble are truly nice and informative and all, but even in the space age it's magic to see Saturn and it's rings with my own eyes.

There are examples from Kansas, Georgia and even Europe, where politicians and other in power wish to introduce pseudoscience and religion in science class instead of actual science. Mostly they have a problem with the theory of evolution.

If this is true it means it's accepted among ignorant politicians. Ronald Reagan consulted astrologers, Bush ask his imaginary friend to bless his country, and some legislators wish to outlaw science from being taught in American schools. What real scientist would agree with such rubbish?

Homeopathy is not medical science, and it's not accepted in Europe, not among real scientists and doctors anyway. Please don't lie.

True. I want space exploration to be as safe as possible, but not so safe that we can't afford it, or that our technology wont develop because we will never fly. Failures will always happen, we've been flying around in our atmosphere for about a hundred years and accidents still happen. We can't expect something like spaceflight to be 100% safe. The only way to make it safer is to try and try again. Also competition in the private market will help.

I am sure they are working to make this new vision of exploration come true, that's not the problem. Lack of political support could be a problem though. Also, I think they had insignias and badges and logos since they started. That's not anything all their scientists and engineers are doing, taking up all their time.
