  2. its a movie!! on Pentagon Climate Change Author Interviewed · · Score: 2, Insightful

    Its a movie.Don't take it so seriously.watch it.forget it.
Not that its Lord of the Rings to take seriously. ;-)

  3. time to accept it... on IT Outsourcing Need Not Threaten Our Future · · Score: 1

Its high time that americans start to accept outsourcing as a way of life. With the amount of outsourcing increasing as we speak I doubt its gonna go out of fashion for a while.
Economically and logically speaking , it would be more trouble to bring back outsourcing processes than to manage them in India. This is especially true when it comes to customer service jobs.Telemarketing and collections can be shifted easily as they are outbound.

With just a wee bit of ai built into google you cannot expect it to answer questions like those.Of course given a little time goofle will manage to pull it up.

  5. Absolutely... on The Joy of Random Shuffle · · Score: 1

I discover a new song everyday with using shuffle because i download so many random songs using P2P(yes i use it & love it!).If there was no shuffle i wouldnt listen to even half the songs I downloaded!
Besides listening to songs in the same sequence becomes sucky cos you keep listening to your fav songs and then become bored of them.

  6. What will Apple gain... on Apple Hunts Playfair in India · · Score: 1

...By hunting down these small apps.If not PlayFair then there will be some other app in a coupla weeks popping up which remove the copy protection from their songs.
In Fact it would be better for them to ignore these little things which will barely decrease their business and concentrate on marketing and such things. For people who want to circumvent , they will, anyhow. For those who want to buy, they'll buy just for the convenience.
I think it makes no real sense in Apple gunning for these small guys and spoiling their clean reputation.

  7. Does'nt every company do it? on Microsoft's Long-Playing Business Record · · Score: 1

I'm not defending MS but don't all big companies keep a certain amount reserved for lawsuits and such troubles?
Forget Big companies even smaller ones keep a rreserve fund for bad debts, lawsuits, unexpected losses, bribes(yes, thats right) and other such miscellaneous stuff. And MS knowing that with the way they go trampling smaller companies, lawsuits have become a way of life with them.Just a smart way to earn more money.
Bottom line : I would do it if i were them.

One interesting fact which is underlying in all the 5 points is that Open source still just caters to the more than computer literate GEEK.Most Open source programs still make a lot of assumptions and that creates problems for the average joe.
That is why most of the open source software is just used by geeks and normal computer users have'nt even heard of a majority of them!

A little about Daksh if you dunno, it was one of the first few call centers in India with a really good reputation. They still are one of the biggest in the arena. No wonder IBM wanted them soo bad.

  12. Another fact... on How India is Saving Capitalism · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if you guys know about this but there is minimal customs duty on computers and electronics imported by Indian outsourcing companies.
Most of this hardware comes in straight from the United States. You have no idea how much companies like IBM,Dell,Avaya & Compaq (american owned companies i believe)are earning in the bargain. Most of the telecom infrastructure required to setup Call centers here has to be shipped straight from USA.That again is an example of how the economy balances itself out eventually.

  13. Its the Big companies too on Why PHBs Fear Linux · · Score: 1

Besides the curriculum of Uni's, its also the big companies to blame.I used to work for Citi and their policy states that no 'free' or open source software is to be used in any application development for any of their businesses. Not one open source product resides even on their exemption list(policy exemption after approval).
If you want to use unix buy a HP Unix server(that is if Unix is absolutely critical!), you want a small database get a SQL server.Even if you are paying thousands of $$'s more it does'nt matter. One big arguement is that of support as there is no one to support unix or an open source product. After working for a company like this you actually start believing that what they do is right.
I managed to slip through before they could curropt me. ;-)

  14. Isnt this issue blown out of proportion? on How India is Saving Capitalism · · Score: 1

Is it just me or is this whole thing really being blown out of proportion? It isn't like people are getting homeless on the streets of America that you have to stop outsourcing completely. If America can live with manufacturing in China then it can live with a little outsourcing.
When it comes to the media giving it too much attention, thats their job isnt it? It might be for or against depending upon certain interests.
Maybe its easy for me to say because i'm in India and people here are not pissed off at getting 'more' jobs but it wasnt like we had too many jobs anyway. As long as outsourcing does'nt hurt the overall American economy , I don't think its such a BIG deal. Its just the perspective you take on the issue(or the article you read.) Cheers.

I think theres still a while till we ditch ftp and move onto something else completely.Torrents and other p2p stuff is good but only if you take the effort to get them. What about the masses who want to click and go?It won't happen till they can right click and it says "Save torrent as". :-)
