I've seen that as well. The so called 'security export' at work couldn't sort it out and thought that the Belkin AP was giving out 2 signals. Knowing that this was very unlikely I turned the AP off and the unsecured signal was still there. Bingo! I still had to physically unplug it before he would believe me though.
High prices! Sheesh. You should look at the price we pay in the UK (and have done for a while now).
How about everybody stop complaining about the high prices and start looking at ways of saving the environment instead. It will work out cheaper in the long run.
I've been at uni for 4 years now and I've been asked this same question a few times by foks that know I'm 'up' on computers.
My answer is always: Ditch the laptop, use pen and paper.
It works, if you lose it, drop it, wear it out etc then it costs very little to replace. And it doesn't break so you wont be spending all you lecture fixing it and not taking notes.
It does exist but only as a very small organistaion just to tie in with some of the old stuff. It's more of an admin organisation for the government really and kept for historical reasons.
The latest version of Gaim from the homepage works (on Mandrake 9.1), it still connects.
You might need a few other files but it doesn't take long.
For example I needed (in this order): libnspr4-1.3.1-4.1mdk.i586 libnss3-1.3.1 -4.1mdk.i586 libaspell15-0.50.3-1mdk.i586.rpm li bgtkspell0-2.0.3-3mdk.i586.rpm gaim-0.71-1mdk9.1. i586.rpm
I find it hard to see how he is going to find a person to take to court in the physical attack. When you sign up for some thing they don't take many details. But the internet keeps records and so it could be easier to trace.
Wow, this story appears to have slashdotted not only the page at which the story is hosted but also all the mirrors of that page.
Just makes me wonder if a co-ordinated 'visiting' of a single particular site by slashdot readers would bring that web site down in a similar way to DoS attack!

But there is nothing to stop you from interupting the output and patching that to read P4 @ 3.6GHz.
I guess it would work in a similar way to how virtual machines run, dynamic patching of the code as it's run.

And if those reasons don't convince you then think of it from the lecturer's point of view and read http://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2005/08/13/clic
Use pen and paper. Please.

It depends on how you open the link in Firefox, if you open it by a single click then I can see the cause for confusion.
If you open the link by a middle click (as I usually do) then it should be more obvious what is happening.
I'm a Brit doing my thing and helping a fellow /.er by ringing the number, only thing is that I can't get through!
You bet, I'll be making a call in the morning :-)
Ahh, I knew I'd heard this some where before.
I actually read posting my a guy made during the first trail while some where over the Atlantic.

I installed using urpmi for all but the gaim rpm.
The used as normal.
If they do sue, and Linux sends out a plea for help I'm sure the most of the linux community will help. Possibility even IBM would help!
Looking at the tech specs you need a 120W/C, and we us 240 in the UK.
Wonder if they will release a UK version.

Now that would be an interesting legal challange.
Just a pity that you have to pay, there isn't even a cut back 'taster' version like some developers have done.
... when your found to have cracked the latest software and the DMC is after you could you claim a virus but the software there!
