If SCO is actually making money through their business. What percentage of their projected income this year is from the MicroShaft deal and their court escapades? While many of my misguided buddies like to point out some of the supposed bitterness in the open-source/free software community(ala Richard Stallman-Linus Torvalds), it seems to me the real problems exist with the companies holding patents, who like to play sore loser. Bummer.

--News Release-- The makers of the popular Grand Theft Auto game series have announced their intention to add the Segway scooter to their video game. The Segway, affectionately dubbed "Speedy Gonzalez", will be equipped with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and anti-tank rockets. A JATO (jet-assisted takeoff) rocket pack will be added to increase the drag racing potential of what one GTA player has referred to as a "bad-ass ride, dude!". There is no word as of yet concerning the possible addition of the famous Renault line of cars to the GTA lineup.

Remember that, whether by machines or no, the Matrix is still just a program. As a matter of fact, to put it in today's terms, it's the biggest Object-Oriented project around, mixed in with a lot of AI. To make things simpler, and easier to believe, the machine programmers would undoubtedly have based the Matrix on real life, just to simplify their job and keep humans from rejecting the system. One wonders, what language would have been used?

I wouldn't really now, but do GPU's take a RISC or CISC angle to their job? That's the bent (supposedly) for the Itanium and Crusoe processors. Would such a thing benefit a GPU? (I know the newer chips like the R300 certainly have enought transistors).

There are many systems out there that don't do anything other than 3d. Gaming consoles (i.e. Xbox, Playstation)could benefit from this sort of thinking. As a *geek*, I can appreciate Gentoo on its merits. But I know I would never install it for a non-geek, or recommend it for a non-geek.

I love Linux, but most distros are not for the faint-of-heart. Non-geeks are unlikely to appreciate the beauty of Linux, since they'll wish to do nothing more than use Word, e-mail, and chat. And AOL doesn't work with Linux.

And therefore, installing Gentoo for a non-geek is like crucifying myself. Can you imagine the frustrating phone calls? Certainly not my idea of fun...
  18. Real advantages on Cheating in Multiplayer Games · · Score: 1

I think any technological advantages are typically minor. Skill (and sometimes luck) really apply as advantages. Besides, the gaming community is typically no-holds-barred when it comes to equipment. If Rambus 1066, at three times the cost of DDR and coming from a dubious company, gives an extra few percentage points in speed, gamers will go forit. And they have. This attitude seems to permeate the entire community, and no one wants to get left behind. I have personally seen people with steam-powered BOXen beat the crap out of people running top-of-the-line equipment anyway.
