  1. AA is kinda low on power on Battery-Powered USB Enclosure · · Score: 2, Insightful

How long will a HD last on AA batteries? with the chip to be powered also this could put quite a drian on those litttle duracels and energizers. I would hate to see the batteries fail while the drive was writing data, or updating the FAT.

He was just another guy in the 70's writing cheap sci-fi. his low budget film just happened to come along at the right time to start what is now his "empire." His movie was a decent story but not that great. Feel free to bring on your flames.

I hate to say this but, "the experts" can't make anything decent looking to save their life. Every thing they make is bulbuos and gaudy. The hardware and software. granted they perfrom well, but when it comes to how it looks, I would not want one on my desk. I'll keep my square, black rackmount case any day.

for years I have been willing to pay more for telev ision where I don't have to watch commercials or even the golf channel. BET has to be a bad one also. I am even willing to pay for basic cable plus 1$ per channel that I want, just to not recieve the channels I don't want. I hope this trend continues.

let me say I do see the sarcasm in your post, but seriously, any buisness that wants to survive has to learn to adapt. if the telcos don't adapt they will die. maybe, since they already have most the voip, internet backbones, and major connectoins they should provide a voip phone service to go with your new DSL line. my cable modem company is trying to get me to buy into it, but they cost to much. :)

  16. we already use voip on Is Security Holding VoIP Back? · · Score: 0, Flamebait

most of the thing the telcos do is VoIP already! the pstn is just for that last mile. once your connection hits the nearest box, it becomes Voip and is shot over the internet to the next nearest box to the other conversationist and back into a soiund singnal. this just gets rid of the middle man. there is no reason to have to have two different connections for what should be the ame thing! The telco are holding back the emergence of voip just like the oil co's were doing for the electric car. Does any one else realize they don't have monopoly on communication any more?

You should be good.

  23. I use zip ties on Controlling the Cable Congestion? · · Score: 1

the key to useing zip ties, it to keep each cable separate and zip tie it only to itself. If you do need to bundle cables, keep power and data cables separate, and only bundle cables that go to and from the same box (ie: a cable modem that uses a cat5 cable, but your computer has a TV tuner card coming from the cable modem also, the same place as the network cable)the zip ties should only be used to shorten cables, not to secure them to things. If you do sercure them, use a separte one to shorten them. Use the right size ties, and cut off any of the excess length without pinching your cables. And finally buy alot of them and don't be afriad to cut them off at a moments notice. Hope it helped.
