I find it very weird that Linus is moaning about lack of features or missing configuration now and didn't around 2.0-2.4 releases (or did i miss the flamefest back then). Anyay, back then GNOME was missing lots of nice features that had not been written (or ported from 1.x) Every release especially since 2.6 has been adding all the missing features in a sensible and usable way (IMHO of course)
Anyway for me for all the bitching on both sides of the linux desktop divide both desktops seem to be diverging at least in terms of goals, not toolkits etc:)
Burn the packages to your CD. Burn the CD and go home. Then on your home Ubuntu machine, in Synaptic goto
Edit -> Add CDROM
That should add the packages so you can install them easily via Synaptic.
HTH
You may want to keep an eye on PiTiVi http://pitivi.org/ it is a "GStreamer based non-linear audio/video editing software" it is still in really early development but looks to have great potential. It's aimed at the average joe home movie maker, so pretty much most people:)
GStreamer is so beginning to rock hard!!
It makes me wonder with all this patenting going on that western technologies companies are only going to tie each other up in knots. Nobody will be able to do anything because its patented. Of course non western countries (china for example) will be able to leap jump and become the dominant leader it seems its going to be anyway.
Is the knot we're tying for ourselves in patents a hang mans knot?
Hmmm I'm worried. Why does nobody mention who is going to play the book, for me thats a central role and is just as important as getting Arthur and Ford right. Does anyone know?!

How does this colour coding help people who are colour blind?
