Mandrake has an experimental distro as well, called 'Cooker'. It's usually very up to date and a bit unstable. (although at the moment, it has the same packages as the 10.1 Official release, i.e. KDE 3.2.3, but I expect that to change within days)
I find this funny that Windows is the best supported platform for Java GUI programs, considering that MS hates Java.
Actually, Sun has nothing to do with SWT.
Personally, I use IntelliJ IDEA (pure Swing) on Linux and it zips right along--as fast as the native apps, as far as I can tell.
This does explain something I've been wondering about for a while tho--why do people rave about how fast SWT is, when seems like such a pig? I guess the answer is that it's only a pig under Linux...
Oh? Please enlighten the rest of us, who lack your wisdom. Have you ever actually *met* a paid professional who was [even remotely] qualified to write a device driver??
I suspect no, so I'd say to you: "Please crawl back under your rock, you Micro$lut Whore."
Is that fair or what??
Our production servers run Debian stable--granted, there are only 3 of them, but they're rock solid. Also, there's a package called cron-apt (I think?) that we use to keep everything up to date. It doesn't do the upgrade automatically (by default--you can change this), but it does download them, so that all you have to do is run something like 'aptitude' and hit 'g' (Go) an it's usually done in seconds.
If you have many servers, there's a package called apt-move that will maintain a local mirror of the distros/archs of your choice. Download once, update many...
Also, I have to say that I have yet to seriously break a debian box--even with building my own kernels and such (another package, make-kpkg (that's the program anyhow--the package name may be kernel-package?) makes building your own kernal packages fairly painless.)
Finally, I'll mention Mandrake. I've always found it to be a good choice for desktop use, but in a recent comparision, InfoWorld (or some such) has ranked it higher than both RedHat and Suse as a *server* OS...
If the legislation is one sided, then it will probably fail.
So. It will fail... Does that make it *right*?? (Lower prices for the consumer?!? By depriving them of their fair use rights?!? That's some sort of twisted joke, right??)
I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again: "BOYCOTT"
Money is the only language these "people" understand--so start swearing at them, for doG's sake...
That sounds like a problem with "compatibility", as opposed to "stability". Perhaps RH9 is using a later version of GCC (and where RedHat goes, VMWare is sure to follow)?
IME, a newer version of GCC is not always a good thing.
Why would anyone, in their right mind, buy (nevermind the fact that, under this scheme, they'd actually be renting) the shit that Hollywood is spewing out these days?!?
Just say 'boycott'...
(That said, I would be willing to pay good money to rent the latest Matrix movie... I might even go as high as 25 cents...)
The thought of having my head tilted to one side for 8-to-10 hours a day (to see the monitors in the configuration shown in most of the pics) is enough to give me nightmares...
Ergonomic?? I don't think so...
I did see one pic with two monitors, fairly close to center (which would make sense--move your eyes, not your head), but that seemed to be the exception (as opposed to having a 'photoshop' look, which seemed to be the rule), leading me to think that these people are either a) clueless, b) clueless, or c) enjoying some sort of cruel hoax at our expense...
Oh, and it's free to all...

I can't see that any real thought is required here.
Boycott the bastards and *most importantly*, let 'em know why.
A few thousand e-mails to sales@via.com should do the trick...
I'll second that!

But. I'm still holding out for some SpaceGhost(tm, probably) style Power Bands!

I'll play the one that has a 'text-only' interface. That way, I'll actually have to use that, long-forgotten, technique known as 'imagination'...

"we are at risk of the two coming together to severely damage our great country"
That sounds great! Please tell me the name of this great country, so that I might re-locate...
