    Then I advise you to let all the connection checks do by a machine dedicated for this task.
    The statistical checks on each of the 5000 machines itself 24 hours a day while pushing/pulling data at intervals to that dedicated machine.
    I advise 2 or more measuring machines each on a separate network each doing the same task and synchronizing their data for redundancy.

    It is unbelievable how many sites try to cram your surfing session with all sorts of cross scripting and other nuisance from 3rd parties.

    Noscript essentially gives back the decision of running scripts to the owner of the web client.

    Because they are essentially government endorsed extortion companies, just follow the money and see that a lot of legislators directly and indirectly make shitloads of money with these schemes. These companies are almost costless to setup, no R&D, no hard investments, just hire some office space and some hard goons.
    They will protect their lousy income even if they have to hire very nasty people.

    They are government mandated extortionist companies and used as instrument to funnel money from the middle class to the rich class.

    A solution can be to use different profiles for different jobs. I have a developers profile in which I have developers add-ons like firebug, in my normal surfing I do not need it so it's not in my default profile.

    That is only what you think, when you get to the login screen you get a 10-40% loaded OS.
    On Windows 2000 the login was later in the boot process, they only did this to let you believe that XP loads faster than 2k.

    I think we first have to start forcing all owners of class A networks to move to class B networks and NAT (likewise for class B owners to move to class C networks). This should free up a lot of new to be used public IP addresses.
    There is no reason why internal networks should have direct external exposure through a public IP number, the internet is a collection of separate networks.
