This looks a lot like the cut-throat competition of the Jamaican recording industry until they signed the Berne convention in 1994, after that date they became irrelevant from a cultural point of view.

    I know a few...

Let's start with the algorithms that make up software programs, all of these are math and for free.
Most of the techniques used in modern programming like multitasking, compiling, unix and so on came from Universities and were mostly free until the landscape changed in the 70's, ask Richard Stallman why he founded the Free Software Foundation.
Most commercial programs are derived from this base so GP is right in that claim.

Besides, do you have polio? you can check these facts yourself all over the internet, GP does not need to provide them.

Of course they do as it costs virtually nothing when you can use your ultra expensive stocks to buy stuff without a need to liquidate any money thus being safe against hedge funds and other sharks.
This means they are in a luxurious position for a certain time to come, during this time window they have to strategically buy companies that are in their way and companies that are building new things before that window closes.
I think that the Doubleclick company was from the "in the way" category, so it does not even matter then whether that company had something to offer in general, parts of it do anyway.

Within 10 year they will be as nasty as MS is now, they have to be, it has to do with the way that business is built.

Vinyl isn't much better, I have digitized at least 20.000 songs from CD or vinyl that was recorded between 1910 and now.
About 19.900 songs were put on the vinyl or CD way too loud causing clipping and blockwaves and needed a volume decrease.
Mind you that this clipping cannot be taken out anymore, once fucked up is forever fucked up. Lucky that most people's ears are even worse and wont pick that up, mine will however.

  17. Doesn't surprice me. on Europe Moves To Track Phone and Net Use · · Score: 2, Interesting

What The Netherlands propagate is their own use for many years to tap each and any phone call by Israeli black boxes while signing contracts that forbid the same government from inspecting what is going on in these black boxes. The Dutch government think this is the best thing to do.

During WWII the Dutch government was as zealous about these things as they are now and had none whatsoever problem in sharing their records on Jewish and other wanted people with the NAZIS. The current political generation behaves not really different from that time so don't look strange if they sell out their populace again.
