nope, they take your card and have you go through the process of unblocking at least...
If you have less luck you can re-assign a new account because of this...
You are right, not only these but think about emedded systems like routers...
My Alcatel with a embedded *nix system also takes some time to startup...
Think about all these routers and switches higher up the stream as well...
This will discriminate against users that arent engineers...
Most people just want to do their email and surf a bit on the web...
I am more for a penalty system where the ones that sold buggy software should pay for their bad doings, this will make them very fast trying better...
btw, why always have innocent (maybe not very smart but still innocent) people pay for the crap that a few are sending...
2 parties are guilty here, these are the ones putting all these worms and stuff on here and the ones that create the environment where this can happen.
I think the Chinese arent looking forward to DRM - Paladium and other idiot tricks MS uses to try and keep out people from their system or conform to what they see fit.
I would have done the same really, as a country with at least 1/4 of the people on this earth you cannot let people like MS's management walk through your plans.
I think the Chinese Government looks over longer term with their future plans than the shortsighted US governmant.
That 50% is down to one team (windows) and the other 50% are all other manufacturers, one can only come to conclusion that much is still needed to make windows code healthy enough...
It's all about games really. If people can play their games on GNU/Linux they are more into it. This is also the still missing part and is mainly due to lack of uniformity of window managers and desktops, also because X isn't getting any younger and faster. Some breakthroughs like a open GL windowserver might be nice. At least something fast and uniform should be made for a solid gaming platform on GNU/Linux. By the time that GNU/Linux and the several BSD's are really mature we are going to need them very hard to be able to run our free code (unsigned, non DRM).

Sorry if I/. your site, I have been following the effords of this project since 1998 i think it is... This always interested me and at the same time intimidated me to give a helping hand most of this stuff is complicated to me. I can make nice websites and program structured languages alright, i can even use simple forms of OOP, that stuff is a different league... I hope you get some people interested though...

This reminds me of a long going project that was once called Berlin and is renamed Fresco along the way... Though their ambitions were higher with making a new windowing system...
Interresting (at least for me) is that most of the CEO's see a emerging market in barebone desktops and servers. This means that they see Linux et al. taking a more substansial part of the market.
Most developers think the licence is about them, probably like me most of them have a strong opinion (stubborn and vain, lol...), in fact it's to protect the users from us developers to bind them into ridiculous black box, nanana i can see the (buggy)source but you can't, type of licence.
GPL and LGPL are visions that came from times when most of us werent even born, they span into a far future where common day people like you and I need, yes need, a reliable alternative of any aplication at any time...
These are visions of future times, not merely some licencing...
Richard and Linus each in their own merits have a better vision often of the balance of power than most of us on here...:)
Even funnier is when you have a webserver installed, put a redirect to google in your index.html or index.php
btw this works for windows too with that host file, it's called c:/winnt/system32/drivers/etc/host
It does however slow your system a bit when the list is long.
yes really... :-)

They already run ATM machines on Win NT 4.0 for years...
Yes really, no joke...
These machines are contantly out of order making you go further from home than ever to be able to get money...
The banks really don't care, they only care about their buzzword called "profit maximalisation at ALL cost"

Is bitching the Indian Government...
They should focus more towards those that are handing out these jobs to India...
The only thing those employers are interested in is maximalization of profit, even their families are less important...
More reasons for Open Source...

Mirror sites and rsync? one would think that the FSF has professional help for these kind of things...

I downloaded and updated the patch, but it slowed my puter so much that i decided to take it off again and close the whole RPC service instead...
Finland does ignore the significance of USA patents, not Linus perse.
More than one patented (software) things are downloadable from finnish servers.

yes get my karma down i care less as i am right...

Is there a commit and rollback system into this standard?
GNU/Linux is about choice for users.
Open source (non TCPA/DMR) Hardware is a way more important discussion.
Where do you want to play open content with closed hardware?
Exactly life on stage but nowhere else...
I wonder why so few people see the light with this...

Yes but most SVG binaries from the trunk were very unstable, I can't remember having one build that didn't crash my win2k...
In General:
Native SVG for me as webdeveloper very important because of the DOM access which is hardly exsisting in the plugin version of Adobe.
All these nice techniques are only interesting if we (the developers) have a way to change things at runtime in webpages.
SVG (together with a lot propriarity namespaces (not closed though due to the nature of xml))is extensively used by Illustrator.
