If "over 400 government, military, and intelligence community witnesses testifying to their direct, personal, first hand experience with UFOs, ETs, ET technology" isn't good enough for you, then start here to research our gov's own documents, and then go here and dismiss these reports with "swamp gas" or "venus" or "a flock of birds".
This "we may contact other intelligent creatures someday" is a farce. They are here and have been for millenia.
...many users don't buy new computers because of how hard it is to move all their data and applications.
Absolutely
Well, for my Macs, I just Carbon Copy Clone my user space and apps, buy the new machine, and clone them back. A complete transfer of all data to a new machine takes me about, oh, 45 minutes. No re-installs needed at all.
"Everytime you plunk your change down for iTunes, CDs, DVDs, whatever, remember that a portion of that goes not only to supporting multimedia conglomerates that control everything it also goes to supporting DRM, lawsuits against others, and lavish parties where people enjoy laughing at you for buying their shitty music."
Actually, if you go through CDBaby, or Apple's own independent artist inclusion process you can get on iTunes and Crosby's point stands. 91% of the money earned goes to the artist... through iTunes.
DRM is a different ball of wax. It's not going anywhere. That's about copyright protection for all artists (not to mention iTunes has the best DRM I have used), not about skimming, greedy suits fucking up the industry on the whole.
OMG. Well, at least you made me smile today. Thanks.
I have, in fact,
toured 8 sweatshops thank your assuming ass very much. Two were in the US and have since been shut down.
And no, it is
not my job to ensure the GAP does anything. I simply don't buy anything from
them or others that use those distributors. I also encourage others not to
also. It is, in fact, their responsibility to your obvious dismay. In fact,
I only buy clothes/shoes that were made in the U.S. Hard to do? Hell yeah!
It's way fucking harder than most realize. What does that say? Americans
aren't willing to work 80 hours a week at a wage that merely allows them to
stay alive to come to work the next day? Probably. You see, just because their other opportunities may seem worse isn't the point. It's the fact that we don't have to, but we do exploit them. Is this the world you want to live in? Do you like wearing pants made by an exploited human being who is afraid of getting pregnant and losing her job? No, as you stated, you would rather them become prostitutes if they don't like it, right? Nice, AND typical for a neocon. The point is we have a choice as to whether we demand better working conditions or not, and large corportations choose not. That is the problem.
Whether they have another job or not isn't the point, dummy. It's the obvious
exploitation of human beings for the sheer opportunity for you to wear
Khaki's for $29.99 with a GAP logo on them that's the problem. The point is
that they don't HAVE to. The GAP (gasp!) has the CHOICE to ensure the
well-being of those making their clothes, and they do not. I, therefore, can
in fact blame them. End of story. Other job opportunities isn't the point. It's the fact that distributors have the power to pay them a better wage, and they do not. Do you not think the GAP could force this? They don't because they dont' have to! People like you keep buying the shit, so why would they change their practice? You can rationalize your way out of it, but it doesn't make it any better. The companies we buy from have a choice, they simply choose exploitation because they can. I CHOOSE to actively not support those companies.
And, just for clarification, I do
in fact have a job where I am able to post on/. Why in the world would I
find a job where I don't have time to? That doesn't make any sense, but
neither does the rest of your neocon rant.
Tye-dye? I see you are also well versed in generalizations too. Yes, 90's sweatshop closings. So, it's sweatshops or prostitution? Jeez, sounds kinda bleak. We COULD have just paid them more, but that's not an option now is it. At least not in YOUR world... again, nice.
Large corporations have plenty of blood, sweat and tears on "their hands". My god, ever been to a sweatshop in China, Taiwan? I've actually seen the pee buckets near their seats. This was a shop making clothes for the Gap.
Don't want blood on their hands. Pffft. If they can do it, they will. Remember that.
What are you installing them on, Beige G3's? Original iMacs? I install 10.3 all day and an Archive and Install takes max 25-30 minutes on two year old Dual 866's. Turning off printer descriptions and localization brings that number down even further.
Yes, but P, and therefore s L I and C, are getting bigger every week, literally. We have been finding new planets around stars on a weekly basis which directly effects our knowledge of their number, which was 0 just a few years ago.
Now, throw in extremophiles (for example, living organisms thriving on minerals spewed from hot springs in the ocean floor with no sunlight, previously thought impossible: organisms living in ice... one mile deep, protiens in asteroids literally falling to Earth, etc...). Lastly, comprehending the vastness and age of the universe is a remarkably hard thing to do. The numbers involved are massive.
Using probability alone, I think it literally safe to say that we are/have been visited. I have a very long list of numbers showing this, but ROI doesn't permit me to copy here unless prodded.
"A lot of people [still] resent the idea of shooting people in games.", in Japan and other places that is.
See, here in America, home of 12,000 gun murders a year compared to less than 100 in Japan, this makes complete sense. Saying we Americans are a violent group would be an understatement of the ages.
Liking violent video games is merely a result of the asinine, violent way of life we propel here.
Less compatibility? Whatever do you mean? I still don't understand that. Something wrong with AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF and WAV format compatibility? In fact, I think that's even MORE than the Archos players.
And, it is worth it to me to have Firewire speeds (not to mention battery recharge at the same time, over the Firewire), an intuitive user interface, a smaller form factor and direct synching (with awesome options) with iTunes?
Good thing we hired more FBI agents in the aftermath of 9/11 to stop terrorists. Looks like the extra man hours are paying off!
Spending my tax money on having the fucking FBI literally raid the place my children go to learn to insure the RIAA and the Movie industry pad their yearly record breaking sales numbers is beyond ludicrous.
Absolutely insane.
Meanwhile, we have 12,000 gun murders a year, education budget keeps getting cut, we still don't provide health care for our children (at LEAST), employee production has skyrocketed and large corporations apparenlty can use the FBI to break the balls of our kids, in school, to quelch loss of profit.
No wonder the world fucking hates us. Our priorities are so fucking whacked, I wouldn't want our brand of "freedom" to spread either! We don't want to spread freedom, fuck, if that was the case then we would have invaded Saudi Arabia, a "great" ally and one of the worst human rights abusers in the world, years ago. But, they have things we need, so we leave them alone and call them our friend. In the case of George W., actually very good friends.
No, what we really want to spread is the idea of property rights, capitalism, greed, wants, consumerism, you know, to make a few people rich, because that's what matters most!
"Bottom line: For broad hardware support, Windows is still much better than Linux. That's not bias--it's a demonstrable fact."
Bottom line: For broad hardware support, it's a dmonstrable fact that OS X is much better than Windows. So, then we should all buy Macs? Probably not. His rhetoric is mind numbing.
"At the other end, the horn flares out, but not for ever - if you could fly towards the flared end in a spaceship, at some point you would find yourself flying back in on the other side of the horn."
and... "At an extreme enough point, you would be able to see the back of your own head."
This is an example of symmetry, something that is paramount in keeping when explaining shapes of the Universe. Just had to point this out...
There's one last huge omission to that list, and that's the equipment. The list of equipment expenses (purchases, repair, upgrading) would seem to carry quite a bill.
I still submit the prices are too high, I just thought this would have made a good last ul line.
The actual value isn't derived in the courtroom, but rather in the marketplace. Well, this is at least "their" reasoning.
Every lawsuit represents scores of people fearing them, which in turn (again, they hope) will be returned in record sales, far outweighing losses in what basically amounts to the minimal cost of instilling this fear.
It's one way to do it (gain more power, money), I suppose. It's just a shame that the reason they are even attempting this tactic is because they believe it will work.
See this .

"UFO's and the National Security State" is an excellent book. Truly investigative and highly researched. The documents cited are impressive.
Just had to ditto. I apologize.
I wouldn't.
It's almost as if the record company would RATHER you buy singles on iTMS. Remember, no one has (or ever will) accused these people of being smart.
True, but I'll bet the house they'll be "announced" by Steve in a couple of weeks at WWDC, to be shipped in the fall.
Or, from another poster: iTunes Remote.
But, a 12" Powerbook with a built-in Airport card suddenly makes for a very nice remote.

Nail on the head.

Don't want blood on their hands. Pffft. If they can do it, they will. Remember that.
Is the name in reference to "Stranger in a Strange Land"?
Just curious. Didn't see an explanation for the name.
Hour and a half? Dude.
What are you installing them on, Beige G3's? Original iMacs? I install 10.3 all day and an Archive and Install takes max 25-30 minutes on two year old Dual 866's. Turning off printer descriptions and localization brings that number down even further.

Holy shitballs. I just saw my mod. wtf
I suppose the sarcasm was a little too subtle for "some" to decipher.
No kidding. The beleaguered Apple Inc. is nearly completing it's 30 year death plan.

So, if the gov decides it doesn't like my politics, it will make it so I can't get hired anywhere? And this is good?
No kidding. Delayed and botched due to overwhelming demand...
Sure seems like a company could be doing worse, I suppose.

Adobe Type Manager? Playing Beethoven? Is this pref for auto-activation or something?
Strange...
