"While combat will be part of the game, 'the emphasis in the artificial Earth will be on human interaction rather than conflicts involving lots of military hardware."
Bullshit. Money is not spent in the government for toy simulations unless they have primary military focus. Use your heads. This is going to be a giant video game for the brass to play with, just before they throw a few hundread thousend uniforms at some "-stan" or another. Lose a few bodies here and there, who cares. We learned in Viet Nam that the American public will just continue feeding our children to the death machine rather than be marked as "comunist".
I know people are going to trash this idea as a Privacy Issue, but keep in mind, there *are* a lot of bad people out there. But also, at this point in the evolution of technology, talking about "privacy" is almost silly, TRW and Nexus/Lexus already know more about you than you do.
Basically, the computer manufacturers are choosing which programs the end user will use for listening to music, which antivirus software they will use.
No, computer manufacturers are choosing which programs they, as manufacturers, want to pre-load on a machine. It may or may not have to do with contracts or what the sales guys want, or even what the hardware developers want, or download what you want. The point is, it you don't like what's loaded on your machine when you buy it, go to any decent hardware retailer and build your own parts, it's all plug and play, no tech experience required. It's an afternoon project. Then load what you want. But a manufacturer can load whatever fit's their fancy.
So now we know where all those pickled odities you find in redneck bars come from. I knew those things floating in brine must have come from another planet.
how can you release something like this and NOT make it political?
So true. It just sounds so silly when som politico comes out and say something like "this has been so politisized!" Well, like, yes... You guys are politicians, right?
God, I love it. Yup, 100% flamebait, but also 100% true. Now that Apache has GPL issues, people are looking the other way and saying "Oh, it's not THAT much of a proble..." JUST SWEET! Hipocryts, the bunch of you!
It doesn't need to be released under the GPL to be okay. To define open source as GPL-only is somewhat stupid.
MY OH MY how what's "OK" and what's not "OK" in Opne Source change when it's one of the Crown Jewels! Just so very funny how thr rabid types are now examining their finger nails while say "Oh, it's not really that much of a proble, it's only a weak patent clause... Well, guys, it is a patent, and it is not GPL... Wonder what RMS has to say about this (if he can stop picking the fleas out of his beard for a few moments)!
They put an awful lot of effort into sending people spam actually thinking that any sane person would buy their products to save his/her life.
They do? Come on. They know "sane" people don't buy penis pills, and really, they don't care one way or the other . A sale is a sale.
On top of that they are responsible for a eating up a huge amount of Bandwidth on our network and cause constant aggrivation in multiple other ways...
This makes them "stupid"? It makes the evil leaches for sure. But stupid? No...
To put it short imagine somebody coming along to your house every day with a dumptruck full of unsolicited junkmail leaving you to dig through a metric ton of crap mail to find the three perosnal letters you really want to read.
Perhaps accepting the metric ton of junk mail makes YOU "stupid"? But still, how does this make spammers "stupid"?
Now, you do the math and figure out why I call them STUPID!
OK, lets do the math. Spammer invests very little in bandwidth (although obviously, some big time server time is being purchased from someone), and lives in a big house because a very small percentage of "STUPID" people buy his penis pills. How does that make him "stupid"? A leach perhaps, a criminal maybe, a royal pain in the ass for sure, but "stupid"? No, I don't think so.
Drug dealers and people who commit fraud aren't going to go away becuase they can make money ding what they do. We still despise them and send them to jail when we find them.
The problem is, drug dealers and people who commit fraud are breaking the law. Now, while many (most?) spammers are commiting fraud, technically it's possible to spam the hell out of everyone quite legally.
At least that's somewhat implied in some speculation at Groklaw. According to that story, Lehman Brothers got a nasty-gram and promptly dispatched it to RedHat of servicing... RedHat attached it to some kind of motion or something (IANAL) suggesting that although SCO had promised the judged it was not threatening RedHat's business, threatening RedHat's customers was the same thing...
Well, the inclusion of competitors products was Microsoft's idea for settlement.
This is because Microsoft knows that Real and Netscape are not competitors of WMP; Real Player sucks and, well, what's to say about Netscape... But it does make for good press, after all, the ignorant press guys will just parrot Bill Gates saying "look, M$ has agreed to include competitors software" totally oblivious that Microsoft no longer cares about Real and Netscape, two technologies that Billy-Boy has already wiped.

Well, that sports equipment web site guy got a threatening letter, and quite frankly, with no disrespect ment, he's *not* a big fish.
Jesus, you really have no sense of humor, do you?
I believe one burned up on the pad, sir...
Naah... It'll fly a short distence and blow up in our faces. NASA has experience in this area going back to Apollo.

Blond joke here someplace.
Not so at all. Smell is actually a *very* big component of taste. Taste and Smell
Smell like womans perfume AND crotch? It's Timothy.

"hideously ugly" and "Perl" in the same paragraph? Who would have thought!
Because that would be dishonest. The original Mandrake logo was a pinguin in a magicians outfit.
I heard a rumor, so it must be true, post to /. asap!

This is just way too sweet! OK, let's see all these distros drop Apache 2.0 (well, those that actually included 2.0)!
They do? Come on. They know "sane" people don't buy penis pills, and really, they don't care one way or the other . A sale is a sale.

Exactly how are spammers "stupid"? Please explaine.
I have a Hammond B3, but what I really lust after is a pipe organ, I hear the ladies really go for them...

Sorry. No. But then, Hell, I've only been in the AF for 15 fucking years.
