Application specific optimizations are out there for a lot of the highly demanding games. You don't think Doom3 is going to be optimized as much as possible by both ATI and NVIDIA? What makes it cheating is degrading QUALITY for PERFORMANCE. The drivers NVIDIA put forth increased performance without decreasing quality. That's why they are not considered cheating.

    3) Buggy software in general is shipped because the market is moving so fast. Developers have just enough money to make the bare bones of what they need, hope they find a publisher, then ship what they have, relying on patches later. You say it's the developer's fault that it's "rushed" to market...I'm saying it's the market's fault that the developer needs to rush or they'll be left behind.

If it is the market's fault how is it that developers like id, who take their time to try to create a well developed product, end up making so much money? No, this is not the market's fault. If developers make good games with good support, the players will come. Buggy games with no or bad patching die. Simple as that.

Microsoft already makes no warranties about what happens to the software when run so why should the fact that "uncertanties" could come up make any difference on linux than in windows? Besides, it is fine to fun the FoxPro IDE on linux, just not distribute apps FoxPro apps for linux. Now why would it be illegal to run custom made apps on the OS since it isn't microsoft doing the troubleshooting or tech support but the maker of the app?

Time to once again send a fax to my senator. This is really getting to the point of rediculous by the MPAA and the RIAA. People will still be cracking their movies and music and spreading them over systems they cannot touch.

You need a computer similiar to the specific one it was written for. This includes a 2.4Ghz P4 and Radeon 9700. This was unoptomized code written for a single computer to make a demo which means it only needed 30fps. Not to mention it was leaked over a year before the game is expected to be released. Don't expect the alpha to be a reflection of the final version.

Or you can just use the free OS that OSX is taking a lot of its code from and get FreeBSD. Of course on a i386 system.

Previous to this Carmack has said that money is only good to be able to do what you want and not worry about companies pressuring you. id won't sell out. They may make an xbox port but it sure won't be exclusive. This is just speculation with no proof. I mean is it any suprise that MS would do this anyways?
