  1. Re:k, gotta be useful here on Microsoft Robots to Watch Kids · · Score: 2, Insightful

As the Father of a 7year old girl i have to tell you: No. You have no idea what she will be like in 3-4 years nor in 10-20 years. Kids tend to grow up and get their own minds. Dont expect your kid to become what you imagine her to be. She will suprise you - and that is a very good thing.

  2. Amazons new Search engine is powered by google on Ask Jeeves Looks to Outshine Google · · Score: 1

Amazons new search engine is just a new frontend for google and some other engines and dbs (for example: amzons database *Surprise*). A9 is NOT a threat to google. When A9 wins- Google wins. Simple as that.

  3. Re:Hello Germany on Green Housing Takes Root in Oregon · · Score: 1

I agree with you. I think most of the ecological efforts in germany are NOT mainly motivated by a sincere care for the enviroment but by a obsession for order and conservation wich is a sometimes useful but often frightening chracter trait in us germans. I know that my father does not sort his trash in 10(!) different trashcans because its so ecological, but because his deepseated belief in all things orderly, neat and efficient. Still: Low energy houses are a nice side effect (they combine two things the average german likes more than anything else: building houses and saving money).

  4. Hello America on Green Housing Takes Root in Oregon · · Score: 4, Informative

Tis is ridiculous. We had that kind of houses for YEARS in europe, at least in germany. And its not a niche-market around here but mainstream. Due to the fact that energy and heating costs are very high in germany a lot of people consider a "low-energy-house" or even a "zero-energy-House". But im happy to see that america finally found out about some enviromentally sound ideas from last century. Whats next cleaner air? Less fuel? Kyoto?

  7. One Device for everything on On the Possible Handtop Paradigm Shift · · Score: 1

I personal long for the time when i will have just ONE portable device for everything (phone, email, calendar, Word prcessing, Internet etc) and one central server at home. I think this would be possible already, but the main problem is the lack of good design and innovative IO-Solutions (wheres my foldable Keyboard?).

  8. A little Odd on A Scanner Darkly Film Preview · · Score: 4, Interesting

Yes "Waking Life" was a little odd- but so is the novel "A scanner darkly". I really hope this movie will NOT look like the Matrix but instead a little weirder. I think i can count on Linklater in this regard.

  9. The EU Will have a field day.. on Microsoft Clips Longhorn · · Score: 5, Insightful

[...]which will include a new version of the infamous Windows Media Player. This version will have the ability to shop at on-line stores like the one MS plans to launch later this year. The EU-Administration will not be very happy with this. Actually this just shows that MS doesnt give shit about the antitrust-suits. It seems like the fine from the EU wasnt nearly severe enough.

  10. Re:Never mind matrix.... on Blinkenlights Reloaded - The Matrix Returns · · Score: 1

I HAVE played Pong on the Blinkenlights building. Standing in a public place and controlling a pong game with your Mobile on such a BIG "Screen" is kinda cool. I played against a friend of mine. I lost.

  11. Re:That's totally fuct on Transatlantic Cable Fault Disrupts Internet In UK · · Score: 2, Interesting

If you want to know more about this subject, there is an great article by Cyberpunk Writer Neal Stephenson on Wired in wich he describes the laying of a BIG intercontinental Communication-Cable. As a self proclaimed "Hacker-Tourist" he visits a lot of the construction sites all around the world giving colourful descriptions and a lot of well researched background infos about this rather arcane but fascinating subject. A great read. Find it on: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/4.12/ffglass.ht ml

  12. Re:Hilarious? on Sony Music Testing New Copy Protection · · Score: 3, Insightful

They dont restrict the usual content but give the legitimate buyer some bonus-material. If they do it right (real Bonus-Material, not Stuff they would put on the CD anyway), i think its fine.

Its like: Ok, you can copy the Album for a friend, but if he wants the extras he will have to buy it.

Pretty sensible stand for a music exec, imho.

  13. Its not about censorship on Imagine A UN-Run Internet · · Score: 2, Insightful

Why does everybody automaticly think this has anything to do with censorship? The national Internet-censorship already works just fine in a lot of countries. Thank you very much. Its just that a lot of people dont like to depend on something that is operated by an american company. If it would be better in the hands of the UN? I dont know and it will never happen anyway...

  14. German Goverment on Novell & SUSE In Link Up? · · Score: 3, Interesting

"the German government, which reportedly owns something like 30% of SUSE ($30 million worth), is supposed to be the speed bump." WTF? My Goverment owns 30% of SUSE? Finally they do something useful with my tax money! Nice. Probably its just a goverment loan but 30% of all shares is quite a lot. I wonder if it was a political decision to finance a OSS-Company. Has anybody more info on this?
